A Comparison of Global Feature Extraction Technologies and Their Performance for Image Identification

While the circulation of images become active, various requirements to manage increasing database are raised. The content-based technology is one of methods to satisfy these requirements. The image is represented by feature vectors extracted by various methods in the content-based technology. The global feature method insures fast matching speed because the feature vector extracted by the global feature method is formed into a standard shape. The global feature extraction methods are classified into two categories, the spatial feature extraction and statistical feature extraction. And each group is divided by what kind of information is used, color feature or gray scale feature. In this paper, we introduce various global feature extraction technologies and compare their performance by accuracy, recall-precision graph, ANMRR, feature vector size and matching time. According to the experiments, the spatial features show good performance in non-geometrical modifications, and the extraction technologies that use color and histogram feature show the best performance.
A Keyboard Security Method Based on a Subclassing

In this paper, we propose a keyboard security method that is based on a subclassing. This method doesn't need an additional hardware and can be applied to Web browsers that do not support ActiveX controls. As the users of Web browsers such as Firefox, Safari, Chrome etc. are increased, it is more required to have the keyboard security methods that are based on software and don't use ActiveX controls. Thus we developed the user mode keyboard security method that is based on a subclassing with plugins. Our method doesn't need an additional hardware module and is interoperable with general kernel mode security programs.

In ubiquitous environment, the analysis for student's learning behaviour is essential to provide students with personalized education. SCORM(Sharable Contents Object Reference Model), IMS LD (Instructional Management System Learning Design) standards provide the support function of learning design such as checking the progress. However, in case of applying these standards contain many problem to add or modify the contents. In this paper, We implement the system that manages the learner behaviour by hooking the event of web browser. Through all of this, HTML-based content can be recycled without any additional works and the problems by applying the standard can be improved because the store and analysis of the learning result is possible. It also supports the ubiquitous learning environment because of keeping track of the learning result in case of network disconnected.
Virtual Source and Flooding-Based QoS Unicast and Multicast Routing in the Next Generation Optical Internet based on IP/DWDM Technology

Routing technologies considering QoS-based hypermedia services have been seen as a crucial network property in next generation optical Internet (NGOI) networks based on IP/dense-wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM). The huge potential capacity of one single fiber. which is in Tb/s range, can be exploited by applying DWDM technology which transfers multiple data streams (classified and aggregated IP traffics) on multiple wavelengths (classified with QoS-based) simultaneously. So, DWDM-based optical networks have been a favorable approach for the next generation optical backbone networks. Finding a qualified path meeting the multiple constraints is a multi-constraint optimization problem, which has been proven to be NP-complete and cannot be solved by a simple algorithm. The majority of previous works in DWDM networks has viewed heuristic QoS routing algorithms (as an extension of the current Internet routing paradigm) which are very complex and cause the operational and implementation overheads. This aspect will be more pronounced when the network is unstable or when the size of network is large. In this paper, we propose a flooding-based unicast and multicast QoS routing methodologies(YS-QUR and YS-QMR) which incur much lower message overhead yet yields a good connection establishment success rate. The simulation results demonstrate that the YS-QUR and YS-QMR algorithms are superior to the previous routing algorithms.
Layer Selection Algorithms of H.264/SVC Streams for Network Congestion Control

H.264/SVC provides scalable video streams which consist of a base layer and one or more enhancement layers. Thus, it can efficiently adapt encoded streams to individual network conditions by dropping some layers of bit streams. However, on a dynamic environment such as the Internet, random packet losses due to network congestion can cause drastic effect on SVC quality. To avoid network congestion, the rate of video streams should be adjusted by carefully selecting a layer of each stream. In this paper, we propose three layer selection algorithms which can avoid network congestion by using the rate-distortion characteristics of streams. Simulation results show that FS(Far-Sighted) algorithm can maximize the overall PSNR value of streams by efficiently using the characteristics of video streams.
A Study of Performance Analysis on Effective Multiple Buffering and Packetizing Method of Multimedia Data for User-Demand Oriented RTSP Based Transmissions Between the PoC Box and a Terminal

PoC(Push-to-talk Over Cellular) is an integrated technology of group voice calls, video calls and internet based multimedia services. If a PoC user can not participate in the PoC session for various reasons such as an emergency situation, lack of battery capacity, then the user can use the PoC Box which has a similar functionality to the MM Box in the MMS(Multimedia Messaging Service). The RTSP(Real-Time Streaming Protocol) method is recommended to be used when there is a transmission session between the PoC box and a terminal. Since the existing VOD service uses a wired network, the packet size of RTSP-based VOD service is huge, however, the PoC service has wireless communication environments which have general characteristics to be used in RTSP method. Packet loss in a wired communication environments is relatively less than that in wireless communication environment, therefore, a buffering latency occurs in PoC service due to a play-out delay which means an asynchronous play of audio & video contents. Those problems make a user to be difficult to find the information they want when the media contents are played-out. In this paper, the following techniques and methods were proposed and their performance and superiority were verified through testing: cross-over dual reception buffering technique, advance partition multi-reception buffering technique, and on-demand multi-reception buffering technique, which are designed for effective picking up of information in media content being transmitted in short amount of time using RTSP when a user searches for media, as well as for reduction in playback delay; and same-priority packetization transmission method and priority-based packetization transmission method, which are media data packetization methods for transmission. From the simulation of functional evaluation, we could find that the proposed multiple receiving buffering and packetizing methods are superior, with respect to the media retrieval inclination, to the existing single receiving buffering method by 6-9 points from the viewpoint of effectiveness and excellence. Among them, especially, on-demand multiple receiving buffering technology with same-priority packetization transmission method is able to manage the media search inclination promptly to the requests of users by showing superiority of 3-24 points above compared to other combination methods. In addition, users could find the information they want much quickly since large amount of informations are received in a focused media retrieval period within a short time.
Design of Scheduler Considering Real-Time Characteristic and Fault-Tolerant in Embedded System

Embedded Systems need to ensure real-time of the task response time depending on the applied fields of it. And task could be faulty due to various reasons in real time systems. Therefore in this paper, we design a task scheduler that guarantees deadlines of periodic tasks and considers a fault tolerance of defective task in embedded system with a single processor. In order to provide real-time, we classify tasks with periodic/aperiodic tasks and applies RMS(Rate Monotonic Scheduling) method to schedule periodic tasks and can guarantees execution of aperiodic tasks by managing surplus times obtained after analyzing the execution time of periodic tasks. In order to provide fault tolerance, we manage backup times and reexecute a fault task to restore it's conditions.
Improving Phoneme Recognition based on Gaussian Model using Bhattacharyya Distance Measurement Method

Previous existing vocabulary recognition programs calculate general vector values from a database, so they can not process phonemes that form during a search. And because they can not create a model for phoneme data, the accuracy of the Gaussian model can not secure. Therefore, in this paper, we recommend use of the Bhattacharyya distance measurement method based on the features of the phoneme-thus allowing us to improve the recognition rate by picking up accurate phonemes and minimizing recognition of similar and erroneous phonemes. We test the Gaussian model optimization through share continuous probability distribution, and we confirm the heighten recognition rate. The Bhattacharyya distance measurement method suggest in this paper reflect an average 1.9% improvement in performance compare to previous methods, and it has average 2.9% improvement based on reliability in recognition rate.
A New Embedded Compression Algorithm for Memory Size and Bandwidth Reduction in Wavelet Transform Appliable to JPEG2000

To alleviate the size and bandwidth requirement in JPEG2000 system, a new Embedded Compression(EC) algorithm with minor image quality drop is proposed. For both random accessibility and low latency, very simple and efficient hadamard transform based compression algorithm is devised. We reduced LL intermediate memory and code-block memory to about half size and achieved significant memory bandwidth reductions(about 52~73%) through proposed multi-mode algorithms, without requiring any modification in JPEG2000 standard algorithm.
A Study on Java COS for Devices Which Have Safe Power System

Legacy Java card which adapts a Java platform loads and executes an application when electronics power is provided. However, recently the most Java cards are embedded into a mobile terminal as USIM cards, therefore the power is continually provided for the smart cards. In this case, operation of a Java card system needs to consider its operating system to be advanced in memory management, object management and transaction mechanism. In this paper, we present a high performance Java Card system which is able to have efficient installation, loading and execution of application by applying a new memory management of the smart card that has safe power system.
Design and Implementation of Restaurant Recommendation System based on Location-Awareness

This research aims to show that the context adaptation system can be used to develop practical context-aware applications by developing a restaurant recommendation system based on location-awareness. In this research, we have designed and implemented a location-aware restaurant recommendation system which provides a customized restaurant recommendation service based on the user's current context. The context-adaptation engine adapts the application program according to the policy file as contexts are changed, and the application provides restaurant recommendation service based on the changed context like location.
Development of a Metamodel-Based Healthcare Service System using OSGi Component Platform

A healthcare system is a type of medical information system that performs early detection and prevention in diseases by checking one's health condition periodically. Such a healthcare system is based on the signal obtained from the body. However, the developed existing system represents certain differences in the storage and description of vital signs according to medicare devices and the evaluation method of the system. It brings some disadvantages, such as lacks in the interoperability between systems, increases in the development cost of systems, and absence of a unified system. Thus, this study develops a healthcare system based on a meta model. For establishing this objective, this study describes and stores vital sign data based on the standard meta model of HL7 and applies OCL, which is a mathematical specification language, for defining wellness indexes and extracting data in order to evaluate health risk appraisals in health. In addition, this study implements components based on OSGi and assemble them in order to easily extend various devices and systems. By describing vital data based on the meta model, it represents some advantages that it makes possible to ensure the interoperability between systems and introduce the standardization of the evaluation method of health conditions through defining the wellness index using OCL. Also, it provides dear specifications.
A Haptic Navigation System for Visually Impaired Persons

This paper proposes a mobile navigation system which haptically presents the way to go to visually impaired persons. In order to convey the tactile information to the visually impaired persons, we develop a new tactile module with a solenoid, a permanent magnet and an elastic spring. Furthermore, we suggest 2D vibration flow which originates from one point and gradually propagates to other points on a surface of the haptic navigation system. The tactile module and the vibration flow method are incorporated into the proposed haptic navigation system and they stimulate the user's finger pad and palm, respectively. We conduct experiments to investigate that the proposed navigation system haptically provides the direction to the users. From the experimental results, we verify that the proposed system can generate enough tactile sensation to guide the direction to go in real-time.
An Agent System for Searching of Host Computer and Blocking Network Access in IPv6 Environment

As IPv4 addresses are exhausting, the use of IPv6 addresses is increasing. IPv6 environment provides address auto-configuration function. If addresses are allocated to each host automatically, network management system has difficulty in inspecting every IP of all devices and keeping the relevant informations. Also, as IP addresses are configured automatically, problems such as malicious users accessing network devices with no restriction can occur. To solve these problems, managing and blocking of malicious user is necessary. In this paper, we suggest agent system for searching of host computer and blocking network access which manages and protects the major network resources efficiently by searching host and blocking unauthorized host access to network in IPv6 environment. According to the test results of function of this agent system in IPv6 environment, we have checked that this system performs searching and blocking function normally.
