Cognitive Contrast Enhancement of Image Using Adaptive Parameter Based on Non-Linear Masking

This paper proposes a cognitive contrast enhancement algorithm based on the non-linear masking to advance low cognitive contrast in dark regions of images. In order to improve brightness in dark regions of an image, we propose a new contrast enhancement algorithm based on the non-linear masking using regional adaptive parameters of an image. For performance evaluation of the proposed method, chromaticity and saturation comparison as a quantitative assessment and z-score comparison as a qualitative assessment were executed between test images and their simulated images by SSR, MSR, a conventional non-linear masking and the proposed method, respectively. As a result, the proposed method showed low chromaticity and saturation difference and improved cognitive contrast for the three methods.
An Automatic Smile Analysis System for Smile Self-training

In this study, we propose an automated smile analysis system for self smile training. The proposed system detects the face area from the input image with the AdaBoost algorithm, followed by identifying facial features based on the face shape model generated by using an ASM(active shpae model). Once facial features are identified, the lip line and teeth area necessary for smile analysis are detected. It is necessary to judge the relationship between the lip line and teeth for smiling degree analysis, and to this end, the second differentiation of the teeth image is carried out, and then individual the teeth areas are identified by means of histogram projection on the vertical axis and horizontal axis. An analysis of the lip line and individual the teeth areas allows for an automated analysis of smiling degree of users, enabling users to check their smiling degree on a real time basis. The developed system in this study exhibited an error of 8.6% or below, compared to previous smile analysis results released by dental clinics for smile training, and it is expected to be used directly by users for smile training.
Phased Segmentation of Human Organs On the MDCT Scans

Following the appearance of the latest medical equipment with improved function, the importance of image analysis which enables effective image processing and analysis consistent with the hardware performance is on the rise. As well as, ongoing study is being done on the 2D medical image processing and 3D reconstruction. This paper segments chest CT images into each stage and finally shows 3D reconstruction of each segmented result. Among various image segmentation methods, Region Growing and apply sharpening and Gamma Controller as for image improvement for effective segmentation, image segmentation in order of bronchus and lung, bronchus, lung. Human organs image of segmented is use VTK(Visualization Toolkit) to make 3D reconstruction, two and three-dimensional medical image processing and analysis for lesions diagnosis are able to utilized.
Image Resolution Enhancement by Improved S&A Method using POCS

In most digital imaging applications, high-resolution images or videos are usually desired for later image processing and analysis. The image signal obtained from general imaging system occurs image degradation during the process of image acquirement caused by the optics, physical constraints and the atmosphere effects. Super-resolution reconstruction, one of the solution to address this problem, is image reconstruction technique that produces a high-resolution image from several low-resolution frames in video sequences. In this paper, we propose an improved super-resolution method using Projection onto Convex Sets (POCS) method based on Shift & Add (S&A). The image using conventional algorithms is sensitive to noise. To solve this problem, we propose a fusion algorithm of S&A and POCS. Also we solve the problem using BLPF (Butterworth Low-pass Filter) in frequency domain as optical blur. Our method is robust to noise and has sharpness enhancement ability. Experimental results show that the proposed super-resolution method has better resolution enhancement performance than other super-resolution methods.
Design to Chip with Multi-Access Memory System and Parallel Processor for 16 Processing Elements of Image Processing Purpose

This dissertation present a chip with Multi-Access Memory System(MAMS) and parallel processor for 16 Processing Elements of image processing purpose. MAMS is a kind of parallel access memory system and can simultaneously access to random pixel datas with eight types. It is possible to set a interval about pixel datas to access, too. The parallel processor built-in MAMS actually has been realized in 2003 but its performance fell short of a real time process for high-definition images. I designed a improved parallel processing system by means of addition and expansion of Memory Modules and Processing Elements of previous one. It is feasible to perform a Morphological Closing at the speed of 3 times of the previous one and 6 times of serial system.
A Web Service System Analysis Method Using Petri Net with Queue

It is well known that estimating the system processing time and cost at the early stage of the software system development is very important, and many Petri net methods of analysing processing time have been published. In another field of computer science, web service has been widely studied as a key of an efficient application software development method. Considering these two phenomena, this paper introduces a Petri net method of analysing the process time of application software consisting of web services. It is not plausible to represent the process time of a web application system as a constant. Therefore, we propose to use "Petri net with queues" to represent a web application system. The main contribution of this paper is to introduce a method of analysing a "Petri net with queues".
TPC-BS: Transmission Power Control based on Binary Search in the Wireless Sensor Networks

This paper proposes a new method to optimize energy consumption in a wireless modem by setting up a transmission power value according to the distance between nodes and circumstance in the MAC layer of IEEE 802.15.4. The proposed method can dynamically find an optimal transmission power range using the binary search scheme and minimize overhead caused by multiple message transmissions when determining the optimal transmission power. The determined transmission power is used for transmitting data packets and can be modified dynamically depending on the changes in a network environment when exchanging data packets and acknowledgement signals. The results of the simulations show 30% reduction in energy consumption while 2.5 times increase in data transmission rate per unit of energy comparing with IEEE 802.15.4 standard.
Watermarking Algorithm using Power of Subbands Decomposed by Wavelet Packet and QIM

This paper proposes a novel watermarking algorithm that protects digital copyrights and is robust to attacks. Watermarks are embedded in the subband including the significant part of the signal such as a pitch. Generally, the subband containing the pitch has the biggest energy. In order to find this subband, wavelet packet transform is used to decompose the subbands and their energy are calculated. The signal of the selected subbands is transformed in frequency domain using FFT. The watermarks are embedded using QIM for samples higher than a certain threshold. The blind detection uses the Euclidean distance. The proposed method shows less than 5% BER in the audio watermark benchmarking.
A Study on the Energy Efficient Data Aggregation Method for the Customized Application of Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks

UWSNs(Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks) need effective modeling fitted to the customized type of application and its covering area. In particular it requires an energy efficient data aggregation method for such customized application. In this paper, we envisage the application oriented model for monitoring the pollution or intrusion detection over a given underwater area. The suggested model is based on the honeycomb array of hexagonal prisms. In this model, the purpose of data aggregation is that the head node of each layer(cluster) receives just one event data arrived firstly and transfer this and its position data to the base station effectively in the manner of energy efficiency and simplicity without duplication. Here if we apply the existent data aggregation methods to this kind of application, the result is far from energy efficiency due to the complexity of the data aggregation process based on the shortest path or multicast tree. In this paper we propose three energy efficient and simple data aggregation methods in the domain of cluster and three in the domain of inter-cluster respectively. Based on the comparative performance analysis of the possible combination pairs in the two domains, we derive the best energy efficient data aggregation method for the suggested application.
Implementation of RTD-2000 Based Waterworks Pipe Network Monitoring System using Internet Map Service

Currently most of leak detection monitoring systems use digital maps with paying royalties, and this increases the cost of system construction and financial burdens on local self-governing bodies that manage such systems. Moreover, they have inefficiencies in repair and maintenance, functional expansion, and compatibility with other systems. Thus, this study developed a waterworks pipe network monitoring system that pursues low cost and high efficiency using general-purpose maps on the Internet such as google maps. As this system uses highly compatible free maps, it costs less in construction and its hardware requirements are lower than existing systems, and consequently, overall monitoring performance is enhanced and the cost of construction goes down sharply. This study also proposed a method for pipeline DB construction, which can be started together with the construction of the monitoring system, in order to improve the field applicability of the system.
Implementation of a GPU Cluster System using Inexpensive Graphics Devices

Recently the research on GPGPU has been carried out actively as the performance of GPUs has been increased rapidly. In this paper, we propose the system architecture by benchmarking the existing supercomputer architecture for a cost-effective system using GPUs in low-cost graphics devices and implement a GPU cluster system with eight GPUs. We also make the software development environment that is suitable for the GPU cluster system and use it for the performance evaluation by implementing the n-body problem. According to its result, we found that it is efficient to use multiple GPUs when the problem size is large due to its communication cost. In addition, we could calculate up to eight million celestial bodies by applying the method of calculating block by block to mitigate the problem size constraint due to the limited resource in GPUs.
A Design of HPPS(Hybrid Preference Prediction System) for Customer-Tailored Service

This paper proposes a HPPS(Hybrid Preference Prediction System) design using the analysis of user profile and of the similarity among users precisely to predict the preference for custom-tailored service. Contrary to the existing NBCFA(Neighborhood Based Collaborative Filtering Algorithm), this paper is designed using these following rules. First, if there is no neighbor's commodity rating value in a preference prediction formula, this formula uses the rating average value for a commodity. Second, this formula reflects the weighting value through the analysis of a user's characteristics. Finally, when the nearest neighbor is selected, we consider the similarity, the commodity rating, and the rating frequency. Therefore, the first and second preference prediction formula made HPPS improve the precision by 97.24%, and the nearest neighbor selection method made HPPS improve the precision by 75%, compared with the existing NBCFA.
A Real-Time Scheduling Technique on Multi-Core Systems for Multimedia Multi-Streaming

Recently, multi-core processors have been drawing significant interest from the embedded systems research and industry communities due mainly to their potential for achieving high performance and fault-tolerance at low cost in such products as automobiles and cell phones. To process multimedia data, a scheduling algorithm is required to meet timing constraints of periodic tasks in the system. Though Pfair scheduling algorithm can meet all the timing constraints while achieving 100% utilization on multi-core based system theoretically, however, the algorithm incurs high scheduling overheads including frequent core migrations and system-wide synchronizations. To mitigate the problems, we propose a real-time scheduling algorithm for multi-core based system so that system-wide scheduling is performed only when it is absolutely necessary. Otherwise the proposed algorithm performs scheduling within each core independently. The experimental results by extensive simulations show that the proposed algorithm dramatically reduces the scheduling overheads up to as negligible one when the utilization is under 80%.
Tagged Web Image Retrieval Re-ranking with Wikipedia-based Semantic Relatedness

Now a days, to make good use of tags is a general tendency when users need to upload or search some multimedia data such as images and videos on the Web. In this paper, we introduce an approach to calculate semantic importance of tags and to make re-ranking with them on tagged Web image retrieval. Generally, most photo images stored on the Web have lots of tags added with user's subjective judgements not by the importance of them. So they become the cause of precision rate decrease with simple matching of tags to a given query. Therefore, if we can select semantically important tags and employ them on the image search, the retrieval result would be enhanced. In this paper, we propose a method to make image retrieval re-ranking with the key tags which share more semantic information with a query or other tags based on Wikipedia-based semantic relatedness. With the semantic relatedness calculated by using huge on-line encyclopedia, Wikipedia, we found the superiority of our method in precision and recall rate as experimental results.
Interactive Interface for Virtual Korean Percussion Instruments

This paper is to propose for the production of a digital-based new interface for the percussion of samulnori which are drum, janggu, jing and kkwaenggwari. Newly designed interface is similar to a jing-shaped percussion, and it was designed to playall of four instruments from a single interface. Two batting sufaces, which are located both in front and at trunk of the interface, generate a hitting date creating when interface to be hit and a pressure data when to grip the handle by control unit located at the handle. The information generated is transmitted to a computer via a wireless communication, and then, the computer generate a synthesized sound based on the characteristic of each instrument.
A Study on Timbre Analysis of Pyunjong

As the first step in research for sound synthesis of Pyungjong, timbre was analyzed by FFT analysis. There was no significant difference in the pitch of scale between modern Pyungjong and western twelve-tone equal temperament scale. The timbre of Pyunjong chagnes over time. When striking Pyunjong, the noises to be generated across all frequencies will disappear in a short period of time, and a unique partial only is left. Then it disappear from the partial of high frequency components in order, and two partials remain at release time. At this time, the beating is occurring by the frequency of the remaining partial. Pyungjong used in this study is relatively a recently manufactured Pyungjong, and for original sound synthesis of Pyungjong, a study of ancient Pyungjong's timbre should be additionally conducted later.
