Fast Game Encoder Based on Scene Descriptor for Gaming-on-Demand Service

Gaming on demand(GOD) makes people enjoy games by encoding and transmitting game screen at a server side, and decoding the video at a client side. In this paper, we propose a fast game video encoder for multiple users over network with low-powered devices. In the proposed system, the computational complexity of game encoders is reduced by using scene descriptors, which consists of an object motion vector, global motion, and scene change. With additional information from game engines, the proposed encoder does not need to perform various complexity processes such as motion estimation and ratedistortion optimization. The motion estimation and rate-distortion optimization skipped by scene descriptors. We found that the proposed method improved 192 % in terms of FPS, compared with x264 software. With partial assembly code, we also improved coding speed by 86 % in terms of FPS. We found that the proposed fast encoder could encode over 60 FPS for real-time GOD applications.
Shot Motion Classification Using Partial Decoding of INTRA Picture in Compressed Video

In order to allow the user to efficiently browse, select, and retrieve a desired video part without having to deal directly with GBytes of compressed data, classification of shot motion characteristic has to be carried out as a preparation for such user interaction. The organization of video information for video database requires segmentation of a video into its constituent shots and their subsequent characterization in terms of content and camera movement in shot. In order to classify shot motion, it is a conventional way to use element of motion vector. However, there is a limit to estimate global camera motion because the way that uses motion vectors only represents local movement. For shot classification in terms of motion information, we propose a new scheme consisting of partial decoding of INTRA pictures and comparing the x, y displacement vector curve between the decoded I-frame and next P-frame in compressed video data.
Hand Gesture Recognition using Improved Hidden Markov Models

In this paper, an improved method of hand detecting and hand gesture recognition is proposed, it can be applied in different illumination condition and complex background. We use Adaptive Skin Threshold (AST) to detect the areas of hand. Then the result of hand detection is used to hand recognition through the improved HMM algorithm. At last, we design a simple program using the result of hand recognition for recognizing "stone, scissors, cloth" these three kinds of hand gesture. Experimental results had proved that the hand and gesture can be detected and recognized with high average recognition rate (92.41%) and better than some other methods such as syntactical analysis, neural based approach by using our approach.
An Efficient Mode Decision Method for Fast Intra Encoding in the SVC Enhancement Layer

SVC is an emerging video coding standard as an extension of H.264/AVC. This standard uses inter prediction, intra prediction and a new inter-layer prediction to improve coding performance of enhancement layers. However, it has high computational complexity. In this paper, we propose an efficient intra prediction mode decision method in the spatial enhancement layer to reduce the computational complexity. The proposed method consists of two phases. In the first phase, Intra_BL mode is selected using the RD cost of Intra_BL in advance. We exploit the fact that the RD cost and prediction mode are similar to those of neighbor macroblocks. In the second phase, we predict the enhancement layer mode using correlation between intra mode of enhancement layer and that of the base layer. Experimental results show that the proposed method could save from 48.15% to 56.32% in encoding time while degradation in video quality is negligible.
Detection of the First and Second Heart Sound Using Three-order Shannon Energy Difference

We proposed a new algorithm for detection of first(S1) and second heart sound(S2). Many researches for detecting primary components and those algorithms have good performance at normal heart sound, but the performance is degraded at abnormal heart sound which is contain murmurs generated by heart disease. Therefore we proposed the S1, S2 detection algorithm using three-order Shannon energy difference. Using S1, S2`s character which has large energy difference than murmurs, it is reduced noise and detected S1, S2. According to simulation results, not only normal heart sound but also abnormal heart sound, the proposed algorithm has better performance than former study at abnormal heart sound.
Algorithm and Performance Evaluation of High-speed Distinction for Condition Recognition of Defective Nut

In welding machine that executes existing spot welding, wrong operation of system has often occurs because of their mechanical motion that can be caused by a number of supply like the welding object. In exposed working environment for various situations such as worker or related equipment moving into any place that we are unable to exactly distinguish between good and not condition of nut. Also, in case of defective welding of nut, it needs various evaluation and analysis through image processing because the problem that worker should be inspected every single manually. Therefore in this paper, if the object was not stabilization state correctly, we have purpose to algorithm implementation that it is to reduce the analysis time and exact recognition as to improve system of image processing. As this like, as image analysis for assessment whether it is good or not condition of nut, in his paper, implemented algorithms were suggested and list by group and that it showed the effectiveness through more than one experiment. As the result, recognition rate of normality and error according to the estimation time have been shown as 40%~94.6% and 60%~5.4% from classification 1 of group 1 to classification 11 of group 5, and that estimation time of minimum, maximum, and average have been shown as 1.7sec.~0.08sec., 3.6sec.~1.2sec., and 2.5sec.~0.1sec.

A New Predictive EC Algorithm for Reduction of Memory Size and Bandwidth Requirements in Wavelet Transform

In this paper, a new prediction based embedded compression (EC) codec algorithm for the JPEG2000 encoder system is proposed to reduce excessive memory requirements. The EC technique can reduce the 50 % memory requirement for intermediate low-frequency coefficients during multiple discrete wavelet transform (DWT) stages compared with direct implementation of the DWT engine of this paper. The LOCO-I predictor and MAP are widely used in many lossless picture compression codec. The proposed EC algorithm use these predictor which are very simple but surprisingly effective. The predictive EC scheme adopts a forward adaptive quantization and fixed length coding to encoding the prediction error. Simulation results show that our LOCO-I and MAP based EC codecs present only PSNR degradation of 0.48 and 0.26 dB in average, respectively. The proposed algorithm improves the average PSNR by 1.39 dB compared to the previous work in .
A Design of Korean Input Method using Direction of Vowel on the Touch Screen

Though the spread of the touch screen devices is now revitalized, the Korean input methods in the touch screen devices are mostly the button input methods using keypads. Even though the button input methods are used with a touch screen, they still adopts the existing qwerty keyboard. It means that the existing methods can not be improved. This research suggests that the Korean input method which can be used in the portable terminals and the touch screen devices, for example, a smart phone which has a limited sized screen. It assigns every vowel a process which corresponds with the Korean invention theory and the vowel input method is to drag it. Through the mock experiments, we confirmed that the simplification of the Korean alphabet is more efficient than the existing methods, in the point of the speed of the Korean input.
The Intelligent Traffic Information Searching System Based on Disaster Occurrence of Multipoint

Recent heavy rains have caused natural disasters such as flooding and landslides nationwide. Because of flooding occurrence in most of the roads, traffic congestion and isolation caused many loss especially at rush hour. Constant monitoring and analysis of past disaster history data are needed to prevent disasters on areas prone to floods and disaster risk areas. If we managed to obtain traffic volume, speed, phase around intersection using disaster history data when disasters occurred, we can analyse traffic congestion, change of disaster scale and rainfall. In this study, We select a target district to develop by using a route from Dae-nam intersection in Busan Namgu Daeyoeon-dong, over Gwangan large bridge up until Haeundae Olympic intersection, We developed a system which searches disaster history information, traffic volume using disaster history data based on user selection of the road.
A Real-Time Embedded Task Scheduler considering Fault-Tolerant

In this paper, we design and implement a task scheduler that considers real-time and fault tolerance in embedded system with a single processor. We propose a method how it can meet the deadlines of periodic tasks using RMS and complete the execution of aperiodic tasks by calculating surplus times from a periodic task set. And we describe a method how to recover of a transient fault task by managing backup time. We propose an important level of periodic tasks that can control the response time of periodic and aperiodic tasks. Finally, we analyse and evaluate the proposed methods by simulation.
A Code Banking-based High-speed Concurrent Software Update Method for Single Hop Wireless Sensor Networks

Generally, It is indispensible to use an ISP(In System Programming) tool for upgrading, patching, or changing the system software of the each sensor nodes in wireless sensor networks. While under a small number of nodes, the upgrading task is not a serious burden, however if there are a large number of nodes to be updated, the task is almost impossible to do for the given constrains such as limited budgets and resources. Based on this observation, in this paper we have proposed a novel upgrading scheme based on a single hop in IEEE 802.15.4 PAN(Personal Area Network)s. Simulation results have shown the scheme outcomes the conventional methods in the performance measures.
