Blind Channel Equalization Using Conditional Fuzzy C-Means

In this paper, the use of conditional Fuzzy C-Means (CFCM) aimed at estimation of desired states of an unknown digital communication channel is investigated for blind channel equalization. In the proposed CFCM, a collection of clustered centers is treated as a set of pre-defined desired channel states, and used to extract channel output states. By considering the combinations of the extracted channel output states, all possible sets of desired channel states are constructed. The set of desired states characterized by the maximal value of the Bayesian fitness function is subsequently selected for the next fuzzy clustering epoch. This modification of CFCM makes it possible to search for the optimal desired channel states of an unknown channel. Finally, given the desired channel states, the Bayesian equalizer is implemented to reconstruct transmitted symbols. In a series of simulations, binary signals are generated at random with Gaussian noise, and both linear and nonlinear channels are evaluated. The experimental studies demonstrate that the performance (being expressed in terms of accuracy and speed) of the proposed CFCM is superior to the performance of the existing method exploiting the "conventional" Fuzzy C-Means (FCM).
Acceleration techniques for GPGPU-based Maximum Intensity Projection

MIP(Maximum Intensity Projection) is a volume rendering technique which is essential for the medical imaging system. MIP rendering based on the ray casting method produces high quality images but takes a long time. Our aim is improvement of the rendering speed using GPGPU(General-purpose computing on Graphic Process Unit) technique. In this paper, we present the ray casting algorithm based on CUDA(an acronym for Compute Unified Device Architecture) which is a programming language for GPGPU and we suggest new acceleration methods for CUDA. In detail, we propose the block based space leaping which skips unnecessary regions of volume data for CUDA, the bisection method which is a fast method to find a block edge, and the initial value estimation method which improves the probability of space leaping. Due to the proposed methods, we noticeably improve the rendering speed without image quality degradation.
Face and Hand Activity Detection Based on Haar Wavelet and Background Updating Algorithm

This paper proposed a human body posture recognition program based on haar-like feature and hand activity detection. Its distinguishing features are the combination of face detection and motion detection. Firstly, the program uses the haar-like feature face detection to receive the location of human face. The haar-like feature is provided with the advantages of speed. It means the less amount of calculation the haar-like feature can exclude a large number of interference, and it can discriminate human face more accurately, and achieve the face position. Then the program uses the frame subtraction to achieve the position of human body motion. This method is provided with good performance of the motion detection. Afterwards, the program recognises the human body motion by calculating the relationship of the face position with the position of human body motion contour. By the test, we know that the recognition rate of this algorithm is more than 92%. The results show that, this algorithm can achieve the result quickly, and guarantee the exactitude of the result.
Image Interpolation Using Iterative Error Elimination

Image interpolation is a technique which estimates the non-allocated pixel values on image scale-transform. It requires minimum computational complexity and minimum image quality degradation on the interpolated resultant images. In this paper we propose an image interpolation method using iterative error estimation. The proposed method consists of the following five steps: loss-information computational step, loss-information estimation step, loss-information application step, error computation step, and error application step. The experimental results obtained show that the average PSNR is increased by 3.3dB, subjective image quality is enhanced and the minimum computation complexity is decreased by 83%. The proposed image interpolation algorithm may be helpful in various applications such as image reconstruction and enlargement.
A Study on Data Classification of Raman OIM Hyperspectral Bone Data

This was a preliminary research for the goal of understanding between internal structure of Osteogenesis Imperfecta Murine (OIM) bone and its fragility. 54 hyperspectral bone data sets were captured by using JASCO 2000 Raman spectrometer at UMKC-CRISP (University of Missouri-Kansas City Center for Research on Interfacial Structure and Properties). Each data set consists of 1,091 data points from 9 OIM bones. The original captured hyperspectral data sets were noisy and base-lined ones. We removed the noise and corrected the base-lined data for the final efficient classification. High dimensional Raman hyperspectral data on OIM bones was reduced by Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) and efficiently classified for the first time. We confirmed OIM bones could be classified such as strong, middle and weak one by using the coefficients of their PCA or LDA. Through experiment, we investigated the efficiency of classification on the reduced OIM bone data by the Bayesian classifier and K -Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) classifier. As the experimental result, the case of LDA reduction showed higher classification performance than that of PCA reduction in the two classifiers. K-NN classifier represented better classification rate, compared with Bayesian classifier. The classification performance of K-NN was about 92.6% in case of LDA.
A Study on Extraction and Comparison of Digital Content Key Frame in UCC Service Environment

In this paper, we proposed a mechanism that prevents indiscreet use of digital contents, verifies created content`s copyrights to provide services to granted user and protects digital contents by law by authenticating the original digital content whenever an infringement of copyright occurs in UCC environments. The proposed mechanism uses specific information and features of contents as copyrights authentication information without additional information. Also, provides the fact of violation by inferring the modification of the original digital contents. That means this mechanism infers same or similar value from the contents; fraudulent use of content, modification of content color, modification of content format, modification of content resolution and illegal use of frame not principal key frame. In that point, we found that the inferred value from the content differed according to features of content modification.
Design of an Authentication System Based on Personal Identity Verification Card

Electronic identity (e-ID) card based on smartcard is a representative identity credential for on-line and off-line personal identification. The e-ID card can store the personal identity information securely, so that the information can be accessed fast, automated identity verification and used to determine the cardholder`s authorization to access protected resources. Due to such features of an e-ID card, the number of government organizations and corporate enterprises that consider using e-ID card for identity management is increasing. In this paper, we present an authentication framework for access control system using e-ID cards by discussing the threat environment and security requirement against e-ID card. Specifically, to accomplish our purpose, we consider the Personal Identity Verification system as our target model.
Implementation of Windows Based Underground Pipe Network Monitoring System Reproduced with Embedded Program

According to the development of society and infrastructure, effective underground facility management is growing more important them ever. In the process various monitoring systems are studied and developed for water works pipe-network. Especially, RTD-1000 system with the based on Pc. Reflector-monitoring device is constructed and steered by several local governments. But, this system have to be improved result from based on PC system structure at the point of resource management, heat, power consumption and size. In this paper, RTD-2000 is proposed are a substitution of improved RTD-1000 with many respect and portable one. This system is designed and implemented with ARM-9 development kit based on WinCE and LCD eliminate TDR(Time Domain Reflector-Meter). Various surveillance programs based on windows are mounted on RTD-1000 are replaced with dedicated embedded application softwares. Simulation and evaluation for performance comparison are performed for the prove of effectiveness of RTD-2000.
Efficient Storage and Retrieval for Automatic Indexing of Persons in Videos

With increasing need for indexing of persons in a large video database, automatic indexing has been attracting great interest which takes advantage of automatic tagging instead of the time-consuming and costly manual tagging. However, automatic indexing approach should provide a degree of recognition proximity because it cannot identify the persons with accuracy of 100%. In this paper, we propose an efficient storage method for storing posting lists efficiently and a novel ranking technique of ordering relevant videos for efficient retrieval. Through experiment evaluations we have shown that our storage method exhibits good performance in compressing the posting list. We have also shown that the proposed ranking method is effective for finding relevant videos.
A Method of Fashion Recommender in Coordination with Individual Physical Features

With the development of information technology, online commercial transactions have been steadily increasing. However it is not easy to recommend the clothes in coordination with individual physical features. This paper presents a fashion coordination recommender system for women`s clothes. The system includes the functionality of recommending clothes best-suited for customers in consideration of their individual physical features. It has also been designed to recommend clothes in vogue for those who are fashion-sensitive by considering the fashion trend of the times. Operated in an optional or coupling way, these functionalities of our system result in an intelligent fashion coordination system which recommends dress items to customers in various ways.
A Study on the 3-D Stereoscopic Video Techniques Using Motion Typography

Among visual communications methods through new media, the typography becomes a key role in information transfer areas with the development of motion graphics. Recently, the researches on stereoscopic image productions have been carried out actively to increase the reality of created images, and the various new approaches for the production of stereoscopic images have been investigated. However, it is obvious that the researches using motion typography have not been studied sufficiently. Thus in this study, the stereoscopic images for moving typography are suggested and produced by using three experimental studies -- the experiments using text movement, camera movement, and finally, editing and composition. In the experiments, from the stereoscopic motion typography produced by our proposed methods, the various visual effects have been obtained, and the visual communication with high reality has been achieved.
Cartoon Character Rendering based on Shading Capture of Concept Drawing

Traditional rendering of cartoon character cannot revive the feeling of concept drawings properly. In this paper, we propose capture technology to get toon shading model from the concept drawings and with this technique, we provide a new novel system to render 3D cartoon character. Benefits of this system is to cartoonize the 3D character according to saliency to emphasize the form of 3D character and further support the sketch-based user interface for artists to edit shading by post-production. For this, we generate texture automatically by RGB color sorting algorithm to analyze color distribution and rates of selected region. In the cartoon rendering process, we use saliency as a measure to determine visual importance of each area of 3d mesh and we provide a novel cartoon rendering algorithm based on the saliency of 3D mesh. For the fine adjustments of shading style, we propose a user interface that allow the artists to freely add and delete shading to a 3D model. Finally, this paper shows the usefulness of the proposed system through user evaluation.
Mobile Panorama System via 3D Model Reconstruction

We can use panorama systems or image based modeling systems when we want to make 3D space model and look around result. Panorama systems make 3D model to stitch images and map cylinder or cube. The structure of 3D model, made by panorama system, is not same as structure of a real room, so user can`t infer a real structure. Typically, Image based modeling systems work on a desktop computer. That makes it difficult to reconstruct 3D model in real time and take long time for processing. In this paper, we propose a 3D panorama modeling system that uses images on a mobile device. This system reconstructs a 3D space model, similar with a real room in real time, from multiple images captured part of rooms. Using this system, user can reconstruct various shape of space and look around a 3D space model.
