Seamless Recording Algorithm Using MPEG System and Service Information in Mobile Broadcasting

In the general recording method of mobile broadcasting, all incoming broadcasting streams after recording time will be saved regardless of its content. In this case, as such that viewers do not want to record, commercial advertisement, are saved together. In order to solve these problems, the proposed method checks if the contents such as advertisements are exist in the target stream by analysing the splicing in incoming MPEG-2 TS streams and, if splicing happened, excludes incoming stream after the splicing in the recording process. In the proposed method, first the splice in the recording stream is verified using the related flags of adaptation field in the TS packet and, if judged to cause a splice, the time of splicing is to be estimated by evaluating the value of splice_countdown filed. In this way, the proposed algorithm provides the seamless recording method by estimating the time of splice and excluding the contents after the splicing. To evaluate the proposed seamless recording method, the simulation was carried out by modifying the software of the existing mobile broadcasting terminal.
Human Gesture Recognition Technology Based on User Experience for Multimedia Contents Control

In this paper, a series of algorithms are proposed for controlling different kinds of multimedia contents and realizing interact between human and computer by using single input device. Human gesture recognition based on NUI is presented firstly in my paper. Since the image information we get it from camera is not sensitive for further processing, we transform it to YCbCr color space, and then morphological processing algorithm is used to delete unuseful noise. Boundary Energy and depth information is extracted for hand detection. After we receive the image of hand detection, PCA algorithm is used to recognize hand posture, difference image and moment method are used to detect hand centroid and extract trajectory of hand movement. 8 direction codes are defined for quantifying gesture trajectory, so the symbol value will be affirmed. Furthermore, HMM algorithm is used for hand gesture recognition based on the symbol value. According to series of methods we presented, we can control multimedia contents by using human gesture recognition. Through large numbers of experiments, the algorithms we presented have satisfying performance, hand detection rate is up to 94.25%, gesture recognition rate exceed 92.6%, hand posture recognition rate can achieve 85.86%, and face detection rate is up to 89.58%. According to these experiment results, we can control many kinds of multimedia contents on computer effectively, such as video player, MP3, e-book and so on.
X-ray Absorptiometry Image Enhancement using Sparse Representation

Recently, the evaluating method of the bone mineral density (BMD) in X-ray absorptiometry image has been studied for the early diagnosis of osteoporosis which is known as a metabolic disease. The BMD, in general, is evaluated by calculating pixel intensity in the bone segmented regions. Accurate bone region extraction is extremely crucial for the BMD evaluation. So, a X-Ray image enhancement is needed to get precise bone segmentation. In this paper, we propose an image enhancement method of X-ray image having multiple noise based sparse representation. To evaluate the performance of proposed method, we employ the contrast to noise ratio (CNR) metric and cut-view graphs visualizing image enhancement performance. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the BayesShrink noise reduction methods and the previous noise reduction method in sparse representation with general noise model.
Reservation Conflict-Free MAC Design for Mobile Wireless USB Devices with Distributed MAC

In this paper, a collision-free resource reservation scheme for WUSB (Wireless Universal Serial Bus) networks with WiMedia D-MAC (Distributed Medium Access Control). Since distributed characteristic of the WiMedia D-MAC supporting DRP (Distributed Reservation Protocol) scheme may cause lots of conflicts, overall performances of the WUSB with WiMedia D-MAC can be deteriorated. In addition, when we consider multi-hop environment, "mobile" hidden node problem due to mobility of WUSB devices can be happened, and it is a critical problem to mobile WUSB devices transceiving real-time QoS (Quality of Service) traffic. To tackle the problem, we propose a new DRP reservation mechanism to prevent DRP conflicts for multi-hop mobility support in WUSB networks with WiMedia D-MAC and show its improved performance via simulation results.
A Study on Low-Overhead Collision Warning Scheme using Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communications

It is expected that the vehicle safety systems using vehicle-to-vehicle communication can reduce the possibility of vehicle collision and prevent the chain crash by promptly delivering the status of neighboring vehicles. Many IEEE 802.11 DCF based Flooding schemes have been proposed, but they may generally expose the problems that the transmission efficiency is sharply declined as the vehicle density has increased and then is related to the low possibility of the channel access. Therefore, this paper proposes a collision prevention scheme using adaptively controlling the frequency of the message exchanges based on the current status of neighboring vehicles. Moreover, it is shown from simulation that the proposed scheme provides the performance gains over the existing Flooding based scheme.
A Fast Localization Technique without Range Information in Wireless USB Services for Wearable Computer Systems

In this Paper, we propose an energy efficient localization technique based on WUSB (Wireless USB) over WBAN (Wireless Body Area Networks) protocol required for Wearable Computer systems. For this purpose, the proposed localization algorithm minimizes power consumption and estimates location without range information. It is executed independently on the basis of WUSB over WBAN protocol at each sensor node comprising peripherals of a wearable computer system. And it minimizes power consumption by estimating locations of sensor nodes with range-free method fast.
A Method of Collision Avoidance for Autonomous Mobile Robot using the antenna, IR and ultrasonic

Autonomous mobile robot has ability to move itself so it can access to danger area or narrow place, and send acquired data by sensors at the same time. In order to drive to directed place, it should progress to the destination without any collision to other robot. In this study, we built and realized the collision avoidance system for autonomous mobile robot. By using antenna, IR and ultrasonic Sensors for collision avoidance, we made it possible to sense the attached and long-distance obstacle, and can avoid. Also, we used wired and wireless network to send the data after the mission.
Design and Verification of Pipelined Face Detection Hardware

There are many filter based image processing algorithms and they usually require a huge amount of computations and memory accesses making it hard to attain a real-time performance, expecially in embedded applications. In this paper, we propose a pipelined hardware structure of the filter based face detection algorithm to show that the real time performance can be achieved by hardware design. In our design, the whole computation is divided into three pipeline stages: resizing the image (Resize), Transforming the image (ICT), and finding candidate area (Find Candidate). Each stage is optimized by considering the parallelism of the computation to reduce the number of cycles and utilizing the line memory to minimize the memory accesses. The resulting hardware uses 507 KB internal SRAM and occupies 9,039 LUTs when synthesized and configured on Xilinx Virtex5LX330 FPGA. It can operate at maximum 165MHz clock, giving the performance of 108 frame/sec, while detecting up to 20 faces.
A Study for Animation Using 3D Laser Scanned Body Data

An implementation of animation module using the 3D body data scanned by laser scanner is reported in this paper. Characteristic points of the skeleton in human body were picked up as pivot point for 3D rotation. The body data set wes reconstructed as objects built in hierarchical tree structure, which is based on skeleton model. In order to implement the 3D animation of the laser scanned body data, the vertexes of the objects were connected as skeleton structure and animated to follow dynamic patterns inputted by user.

Three-dimensional volume rendering method which shows the inside of human body is widely used in medical imaging area. Existing medical imaging system using a volume rendering method already has provided a variety of three-dimensional results. Recently existing results in the medical imaging among physicians and patients to facilitate communication have been studied since smart device which has advantage of portability applied in the medical imaging. In this paper, we propose 3D volume visualization system for a relatively low spec portable smart devices by using 2D textures and we also implements 2D diagnostic images of portable medical imaging visualization system.
