An X-ray Image Panorama System Using Robust Feature Matching and Per ception-Based Image Enhancement

This paper presents an x-ray medical image panorama system which can overcome the smallness of the images that exist on a source computer during remote medical processing. In the system, after the standard medical image format DICOM is converted to the PC standard image format, a MSR algorithm is used to enhance X-ray images of low quality. Then SURF and Multi-band blending are applied to generate a panoramic image. Also, this paper evaluates the proposed SURF based system through the average gray value error and image quality criterion with X-ray image data by comparing with a SIFT based system. The results show that the proposed system is superior to SIFT based system in image quality.
Design and Implementation of Harmful Video Detection Service using Audio Information on Android OS

The smartphone emerged due to the rapid development of the Internet has brought greater convenience to life in a positive manner. Recently, however, because of unconstrained exposure to harmful video, reckless use of smart phones has become a domestic issue in our society. In this paper, a service which detects harmful videos by using the acoustic information is designed and implemented on the Android OS. In order to implement the service of Android OS-based detection of the harmful movie, the speed of existing sound-based detection method for harmful videos is improved. The GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model) was used for classifier and the number of Gaussian Mixture was 18. The implemented service shows a detection rate of 97.02% for a total of 1,210 data files (approximately 687 hours) which comprises 669 general videos files (about 424 hours) and 541 harmful video files (about 263 hours). It's speed is 5.6 times faster than the traditional methods whitout reducing the detection rate.
An Adaptive Polling Algorithm for IEEE 802.15.6 MAC Protocols

IEEE 802.15.6 standard technology is proposed for low-power wireless communication in, on and around body, where vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, ECG, and EEG signals are transmitted as a type of data packet. Especially, these vital signs should be delivered in real time, so that the latency from slave node to hub node can be one of the pivotal performance requirements. However, in the case of IEEE 802.15.6 technology data retransmission caused by transmission failure can be done in the next superframe. In order to overcome this limitation, we propose an adaptive polling algorithm for IEEE 802.15.6 technology. The proposing algorithm makes the hub to look for an appropriate time period in order to make data retransmission within the superframe. Through the performance evaluation, the proposing algorithm achieves a 61% and a 73% latency reduction compared to those of IEEE 802.15.6 technology in the environment of 70% traffic offered load with 10ms and 100ms superframe period. In addition, the proposing algorithm prevents bursty traffic transmission condition caused by mixing retransmission traffic with the traffic reserved for transmission. Through the proposing adaptive polling algorithm, it will be possible to transmit time-sensitive vital signs without severe traffic delay.
A New Software for Quantitative Measurement of Strabismus based on Digital Image

Various methods for measuring strabismus have been developed and used in clinical diagnosis. However, most of them are based on the visual inspection by clinicians. For this reason, there is a high possibility of subjective evaluation in clinical decisions and they are only useful for cooperative patients. Therefore, the development of a more objective and reproducible method for measuring strabismus is needed. In this paper, we introduce a new software to complement the limitations of previous diagnostic methods. Firstly, we simply obtained facial images of patients and performed several preprocessing steps based on the spherical RGB color model with them. Then, the measurement of strabismus was performed automatically by using our 3D eye model and mathematical algorithm. To evaluate the validity of our software, we performed statistical correlation analysis of the results of the proposed method and the Krimsky test by two clinicians for ten patients. The coefficients of correlation for two clinicians were very high, 0.955 and 0.969, respectively. The coefficient of correlation between two clinicians also showed 0.968. We found a statistically significant correlation between two methods from our results. The newly developed software showed a possibility that it can be used as an alternative or effective assistant tool of previous diagnostic methods for strabismus.
Inclined Face Detection using JointBoost algorithm

Face detection using AdaBoost algorithm is one of the fastest and the most robust face detection algorithm so many improvements or extensions of this method have been proposed. However, almost all previous approaches deal with only frontal face and suffer from limited discriminant capability for inclined face because these methods apply the same features for both frontal and inclined face. Also conventional approaches for detecting inclined face which apply frontal face detecting method to inclined input image or make different detectors for each angle require heavy computational complexity and show low detection rate. In order to overcome this problem, a method for detecting inclined face using JointBoost is proposed in this paper. The computational and sample complexity is reduced by finding common features that can be shared across the classes. Simulation results show that the detection rate of the proposed method is at least 2% higher than that of the conventional AdaBoost method under the learning condition with the same iteration number. Also the proposed method not only detects the existence of a face but also gives information about the inclined direction of the detected face.
T-DMB Automatic Emergency Alerting Service by Estimating the Location of Receiver

This paper presents T-DMB AEAS (automatic emergency alerting service) receiver model considering emergency region. The proposed receiver model determines the geographical location of the terminal by analysing the received T-DMB signal and displays the AEAS messages only if the location of terminal is similar to the emergency site. First, to determine the geographical location of the terminal, we extract the TII value from the null symbol of the SC and, based on it, calculate the location of transmitter by analysing FIG 0/22 delivering the TII-related data. The proposed algorithm sets the location of transmitter as that of receiver and displays the emergency message only in the case of the similar region. The experiment was conducted in the test environment of low power T-DMB generator based on the T-DMB AEAS messages.
Fast Medical Volume Decompression Using GPGPU

For many medical imaging systems, volume datasets are stored as a compressed form, so that the dataset has to be decompressed before it is visualized. Since the decompression process takes quite a long time, we present an acceleration method for medical volume decompression using GPU. Our method supports that both lossy and lossless compression and progressive refinement is possible to satisfy variable user requirements. Moreover, our decompression method is well parallelized for GPU so that the decompression takes a very short time. Finally, we designed that the decompression and volume rendering work in one framework so that the selective decompression is available. As a result, we gained additional improvement in volume decompression.
A Method of Determining Whether a Smart-Phone is Moving

A smartphone is one of the best candidate devices on which context based services can be provided because a smartphone has considerably powerful computing ability and large memory capacity and it is a personal belonging. One of the most important factors of context is the moving status of the smartphone. For example, if the smartphone is not moving and the user is in an exhibition room then we can conclude that the user is watching an exhibit. This paper proposes an algorithm of determining the moving status of a smartphone for the first time. Our test results showed that the proposed algorithm is 100% correct.
A novel Reversible Data Hiding Scheme based on Modulo Operation and Histogram Shifting

In 2009, Tsai et al. proposed reversible image hiding scheme using linear prediction coding and histogram shifting. Tsai et al.'s scheme improved the hiding capacity of Ni et al.'s scheme by using the prediction coding and two histograms. However, Tsai et al.'s scheme has problems. In the prediction coding, the basic pixel is not used from embedding procedure. Many additional communication data are generated because two peak and zero point pairs are generated by each block. To solve the problems, this paper proposes a novel reversible data hiding scheme based on modulo operation and histogram shifting. In experimental results, the hiding capacity was increased by 28% than Tsai et al.'s scheme. However, the additional communication data was decreased by 71%.
A Hybrid Storage Architecture with a Content Caching Algorithm for Networked Digital Signage

Networked digital signage downloads necessary multimedia contents from a large-sized storage on WAN to its local disk of a limited size before starting their playback. If the required time to download the entire contents gets longer, a start time to play the contents at the digital signage could be delayed. In this paper, we propose a hybrid storage architecture that not only inserts an iSCSI storage layer between the existing local disk and the WAN storage, but offers a contents caching scheme in order to obtain all the necessary contents in digital signage rapidly. The proposed caching scheme determines how to place the downloaded contents both in the local disk and the iSCSI storage. Uniquely, the proposed caching scheme manages the iSCSI storage space by dividing it into two regions: (1) in one region, the digital signage can play the contents directly without downloading them into the local disk; (2) in the other region, the digital signage cannot. Performance evaluations on a simulator and an actual system with workloads of various contents show that a contents-downloading time of the hybrid storage architecture is at maximum three times shorter than that of the existing storage architecture.
Real-time Bleeding Animation for Virtual Surgery Medical Simulation

Recently, practice education using virtual medical simulation has been applied to real clinical environment by enhancing the learning efficiency. Specially, in minimally invasive surgery, the necessity of virtual surgery medical simulation has been increased. Realistic bleeding animation, which represents bleeding special effects frequently occurred in virtual medical simulation environment, has not been proposed yet. In this paper, we propose realistic real-time bleeding animation. For bleeding simulation, proposed method calculates main and effective bleeding regions along the main bleeding direction vector to represent naturalistic bleeding effect. In addition, for bleeding rendering, proposed method uses sigmoid function to impose weights of vertex opacities for the smooth opacity change so that the results of bleeding animation is realistic. Proposed method improves the sense of the real and absorption in virtual surgery medical simulation so that the education efficiency of doctors and students using medical simulation can be enhanced.
Numerical Analysis of Optimum Door Frame for Enhancing Thermal Efficiency

This investigation relates generally to windows and doors for traditional Korean houses(Hanok) and, more particularly, to windows and doors for traditional Korean houses which have a lattice structure that can minimize heat loss in the winter. In order to accomplish the above objective, the present invention provides a door for traditional Korean houses, including a structure of a lattice door framed with vertical lattice frames and horizontal lattice frames which are arranged in a regular periodic pattern.
A Tour Information System on Smart Phone using Location Based Service

Location Based Services using GPS receiver with network enabled smart phone provides various services and many business models. Currently, many context awareness models on smart phone applications are under developing. But most of the services are based on current user position and Point of Interest(POI)s, which are very static. In this paper, we proposed and implemented multimedia tourist guide system using smart phone, which are very dynamic and provides tour guide's voice and audio service on the spot. Also we provides tour experience sharing method which can easily share the videos and pictures for each users.
