A Hippocampus Segmentation in Brain MR Images using Level-Set Method

In clinical research using medical images, the image segmentation is one of the most important processes. Especially, the hippocampal atrophy is helpful for the clinical Alzheimer diagnosis as a specific marker of the progress of Alzheimer. In order to measure hippocampus volume exactly, segmentation of the hippocampus is essential. However, the hippocampus has some features like relatively low contrast, low signal-to-noise ratio, discreted boundary in MRI images, and these features make it difficult to segment hippocampus. To solve this problem, firstly, We selected region of interest from an experiment image, subtracted a original image from the negative image of the original image, enhanced contrast, and applied anisotropic diffusion filtering and gaussian filtering as preprocessing. Finally, We performed an image segmentation using two level set methods. Through a variety of approaches for the validation of proposed hippocampus segmentation method, We confirmed that our proposed method improved the rate and accuracy of the segmentation. Consequently, the proposed method is suitable for segmentation of the area which has similar features with the hippocampus. We believe that our method has great potential if successfully combined with other research findings.
An Improvement of MPEG-4 Rate Control Scheme by Reducing the Occurrence of Frame Skipping at Low Bit-Rate

In this paper, we propose the rate control scheme reducing frame skipping at low bit-rate. As the method considering lossy parts in the compressing process at the existing scheme, the proposed scheme is improved by subtracting the converted bits from the target bit-rate of the current frame. The converted bits are the value resulted from multiplying the ratio of the current frame MAD to the previous frame MAD by the compressed bits changed from the remaining values after compressing the previous frame.
Temporal Prediction Structure for Multi-view Video Coding

Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. Multi-view video coding exploits inter-view correlations among pictures of neighboring views and temporal correlations among pictures of the same view. Multi-view video coding which uses many cameras requires a method to reduce the computational complexity. In this paper, we proposed an efficient prediction structure to improve performance of multi-view video coding. The proposed prediction structure exploits an average distance between the current picture and its reference pictures. The proposed prediction structure divides every GOP into several small groups to decide the maximum index of hierarchical B layer and the number of pictures of each B layer. Experimental results show that the proposed prediction structure shows good performance in image quality and bit-rates. When compared to the performance of hierarchical B pictures of Fraunhofer-HHI, the proposed prediction structure achieved 0.07~0.13 (dB) of PSNR gain and was down by 6.5(Kbps) in bitrate.
A Robust Watermarking Method against Partial Damage and Geometric Attack

In this paper, we propose a robust watermarking method against geometric attack even though the watermarked image is partially damaged. This method consists of standard image normalization which transforms any image into a predefined standard image and embedding watermark in DCT domain of standard normalized image using spread spectrum technique. The proposed standard image normalization method has an improvement over existing image normalization method, so it is robust to partial damage and geometric attack. The watermark embedding method using spread spectrum technique also has a robustness to image losses such as blurring, sharpening and compressions. In addition, the proposed watermarking method does not need an original image to detect watermark, so it is useful to public watermarking applications. Several experimental results show that the proposed watermarking method is robust to partial damage and various attacks including geometric deformation.
Location Positioning System Based on K-NN for Sensor Networks

To realize LBS (Location Based Service), typically GPS is mostly used. However, this system can be only used in out-sides. Furthermore, the use of the GPS in sensor networks is not efficient due to the low power consumption. Hence, we propose methods for the location positioning which is runnable at indoor in this paper. The proposed methods elaborate the location positioning system via applying K-NN(K-Nearest Neighbour) Algorithm with its intermediate values based on IEEE 802.15.4 technology; which is mostly used for the sensor networks. Logically the accuracy of the location positioning is proportional to the number of sampling sensor nodes` RSS according to the K-NN. By the way, numerous sampling uses a lot of sensor networks` resources. In order to reduce the number of samplings, we, instead, attempt to use the intermediate values of K-NN`s signal boundaries, so that our proposed methods are able to positioning almost two times as accurate as the general ways of K-NN`s result.
Content Centric Networking Naming Scheme for Efficient Data Sharing

To enhance network efficiency, CCN allow intermediate network nodes between a content consumer and a content publisher to temporarily cache transmitted contents. Then the network nodes immediately return back the cached contents to another consumers when the nodes receives relevant contents request messages from the consumers. For that, CCN utilizes hierarchical content names to forward a request message as well as a response message. However, such content names semantically contain much information about domain/user as well as content itself. So it is possible to invade users` privacy. In this paper, we first review both the problem of CCN name in the view point of privacy and proposed schemes. Then we propose an improved name management scheme for users` privacy preservation.
XML Type Inheritance Index Hierarchies for Supporting Ancestor-descendant Exploration

This paper presents a hierarchical structuring method for the multidimensional type inheritance indices (MD-TIXs) that support the processing of XML queries in XML databases. MD-TIX uses a multidimensional index structure for efficiently supporting ancestor-descendant explorations that involve both nested element and type inheritance hierarchies. However, In the case of a long Xpath, the building and maintenance of MD-TIX are very difficult because of index entry construction problem. So, we propose a type inheritance index hierarchy method for solving this difficulty. We first construct base indices that support direct relationship explorations between adjacent two types on a given Xpath, and then, based on these base indices, we construct hierarchically the derived indices that support indirect relationship explorations between any two types of Xpath until constructing one target index for supporting the full Xpath. And we also present an algorithm that efficiently constructs a partial index hierarchy for supporting given a set of sub-pathes explorations.
Cause Diagnosis Method of Semiconductor Defects using Block-based Clustering and Histogram x

In this paper, we propose cause diagnosis method of semiconductor defects from semiconductor industrial images. Our method constructs feature database (DB) of defect images. Then, defect and input images are subdivided by uniform block. And the block similarity is measured using histogram kai-square distance after color histogram calculation. Then, searched blocks in each image are merged into connected objects using clustering. Finally, the most similar defect image from feature DB is searched with the defect cause by measuring cluster similarity based on features of each cluster. Intelligent Architectural Design Module for Process Automation of Hanok Constructions

Hanok is a cultural heritage containing our ancestor`s life style intact and breathing alive with us until now. As Hanok has been concerned as a echo-friendly architecture, a new methodology for efficient construction without damaging the traditional construction process comes into request. The goal of this research is development of a architectural design tool based on the BIM(Building Information Modeling) for satisfying these demands. It will be usable to support whole process of the traditional building from digital design to production and construction. Firstly, we take a consideration of the traditional architecture reflecting the spirit of the age and suggest efficient design method for architectural components. Each components is pre-fabricated as a template representing similar components. All pre-fabricated components are designed by object-oriented concepts so, many variations for a component can be derived from the pre-fabricated component. Our method is helpful for reducing design errors because that it considers combining rule between connecting components in the template design. Moreover it is plugged in the commercial architectural CAD, so it can supports digital design not only traditional architecture but also fusion style mixed with modern architecture.
3-tag-based Web Image Retrieval Technique

One of the most popular technologies in Web2.0 is tagging, and it widely applies to Web content as well as multimedia data such as image and video. Web users have expected that tags by themselves would be reused in information search and maximize the search efficiency, but wrong tag by irresponsible Web users really has brought forth a incorrect search results. In past papers, we have gathered various information resources and tags scattered in Web, mapped one tag onto other tags, and clustered these tags according to the corelation between them. A 3-tag based search algorithm which use the clustered tags of past papers, is proposed in this paper. For performance evaluation of the proposed algorithm, our algorithm is compared with image search result of Flickr, typical tag based site, and is evaluated in accuracy and recall factor.
Tendency of Immersion and Recognition on Application of Visual Cue in Graphic Information

This study, depending on the diversification of the information environment, was carried out to analyze the role of visual cues and the relationship between visual information structure in the process of user`s visual immersion and recognition. Thus, we design evaluation model which used scientific instruments and subjective evaluation taking into account the latest graphical user trends, and analyze the data of immersion and recognition of the user experience that acquired through the process more systematic experimental procedure. Based on this, in the future, this study will be able to contribute implement the latest broadly applicable to the device of graphical information user basic design model and a standard evaluation model.
