A Study on Facial Expression Recognition using Boosted Local Binary Pattern

Recently, as one of images based methods in facial expression recognition, the research which used ULBP block histogram feature and SVM classifier was performed. Due to the properties of LBP introduced by Ojala, such as highly distinction capability, durability to the illumination changes and simple operation, LBP is widely used in the field of image recognition. hybrid type of ULBP histogram feature and SVM classifier, facial expression recognition rate could be improved and it was confirmed through various experiments. Facial expression recognition rate of 96.3% by hybrid boosted ULBP block histogram showed the superiority of the proposed method.
MRF-based Adaptive Noise Detection Algorithm for Image Restoration

In this paper, we presents a spatially adaptive noise detection and removal algorithm. Under the assumption that an observed image and the additive noise have Gaussian distribution, the noise parameters are estimated with local statistics, and the parameters are used to define the constraints on the noise detection process, where the first order Markov Random Field (MRF) is used. In addition, an adaptive low-pass filter having a variable window sizes defined by the constraints on noise detection is used to control the degree of smoothness of the reconstructed image. Experimental results demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm.
Automatic Detection of Foreign Body through Template Matching in Industrial CT Volume Data

In this paper, we propose an automaticdetection method of foreign bodies through template matching in industrial CT volume data. Our method is composed of three main steps. First,Indown-sampling data, the product region is separated from background after noise reduction and initial foreign-body candidates are extracted using mean and standard deviation of the product region. Then foreign-body candidates are extracted using K-means clustering. Second, the foreign body with different intensity of product region is detected using template matching. At this time, the template matching is performed by evaluating SSD orjoint entropy according to the size of detected foreign-body candidates. Third, to improve thedetection rate of foreign body in original volume data, final foreign bodiesare detected using percolation method. For the performance evaluation of our method, industrial CT volume data and simulation data are used. Then visual inspection and accuracy assessment are performed and processing time is measured. For accuracy assessment, density-based detection method is used as comparative method and Dice's coefficient is measured.
A Novel Circle Detection Algorithm for Iris Segmentation

There is a variety of researches about recognition system using biometric data these days. In this study, we propose a new algorithm, uses simultaneous equation that made of the edge of objects, to segment an iris region without threshold values from an anterior eye image. The algorithm attempts to find a center area through calculated outskirts information of an iris, and decides the area where the most points are accumulated. To verify the proposed algorithm, we conducted comparative experiments to Hough transform and Daugman's method, based on 50 images anterior eye images. It was found that proposed algorithm is 5 and 75 times faster than on each algorithm, and showed high accuracy of detecting a center point (95.36%) more than Hough transform (92.43%). In foreseeable future, this study is expected to useful application in diverse department of human's life, such as, identification system using an iris, diagnosis a disease using an anterior image.
A Decision Tree based Real-time Hand Gesture Recognition Method using Kinect

Hand gesture is one of the most popular communication methods in everyday life. In human-computer interaction applications, hand gesture recognition provides a natural way of communication between humans and computers. There are mainly two methods of hand gesture recognition: glove-based method and vision-based method. In this paper, we propose a vision-based hand gesture recognition method using Kinect. By using the depth information is efficient and robust to achieve the hand detection process. The finger labeling makes the system achieve pose classification according to the finger name and the relationship between each fingers. It also make the classification more effective and accutate. Two kinds of gesture sets can be recognized by our system. According to the experiment, the average accuracy of American Sign Language(ASL) number gesture set is 94.33%, and that of general gestures set is 95.01%. Since our system runs in real-time and has a high recognition rate, we can embed it into various applications.
A Development of Web Proxy for the Satellite Communication

In the maritime ships or airplanes, users should utilize the satellite channel in orer to use web service. However, the satellite channel is costly and does not give users satisfied response time. In the ship, the users may receive plenty of extra data when they obtain internet news. The extra data may be unnecessary image and advertise. Therefore, they should pay unnecessary data usage charges as well. In this paper, we suggest a proxy model that solves the problem of cost and speed. The proposed proxy reduces the of data through the satellite link by image and advertising blocking, caching, image re-requesting functions. It's performance was tested by a real satellite communication.
RFID Tag Ownership Transfer Protocol Using Lightweight Computing Operators

RFID thecnology has been widely adopted by industries for supply chain management. When a product item is manufactured RFID tag is attached to the product item and supply chain management among factories, distributors, retailers and customers needs to handle ownership transfer for the product item carefully. With RFID technology, the secure and efficient ownership transfer protocol is an important issue for the identification of product items and the overall system efficiency on supply chain. Many ownership transfer protocols have been proposed now. They have security problems and use complex operations such as encryption operation and hash function. Lo et al. proposed a protocol using lightweight operations such as shift, addition, XOR, and random number generation. However, this protocol has a security problem in which the secret key between the tag and the new owner is disclosed to the attackers, and it is also weak against the Fraud attack. In this paper, we propose a new ownership transfer protocol using lightweight operations such as shift, addition, and random number generation. This protocol is the modified version of Lo et al.'s protocol and is secure against the security attacks.
Design and Implementation of Stream Cipher based on SHACAL-2 Superior in the Confidentiality and Integrity

We have developed a 128-bit stream cipher algorithm composed of the 5-stage pipeline, capable of real-time processing, confidentiality and integrity. The developed stream cipher is a stream cipher algorithm that makes the final 128-bit ciphers through a whitening process after making the ASR 277 bit and SHACAL-2 and applying them to the CFB mode. We have verified the hardware performance of the proposed stream cipher algorithm with Modelsim 6.5d and Quartus II 12.0, and the result shows that the hardware runs at 33.34Mhz(4.27Gbps) at worst case. According to the result, the new cipher algorithm has fully satisfied the speed requirement of wireless Internet and sensor networks, and DRM environment. Therefore, the proposed algorithm with satisfaction of both confidentiality and integrity provides a very useful ideas.
A Study on Taekwondo Training System using Hybrid Sensing Technique

We present a Taekwondo training system using a hybrid sensing technique of a body sensor and a visual sensor. Using a body sensor (accelerometer), rotational and inertial motion data are captured which are important for Taekwondo motion detection and evaluation. A visual sensor (camera) captures and records the sequential images of the performance. Motion chunk is proposed to structuralize Taekwondo motions and design HMM (Hidden Markov Model) for motion recognition. Trainees can evaluates their trial motions numerically by computing the distance to the standard motion performed by a trainer. For motion training video, the real-time video images captured by a camera is overlayed with a visualized body sensor data so that users can see how the rotational and inertial motion data flow.
Optimization of DB Server and Web Server to Enhance the Performance of ECM

In order to develop ECM system, there are a number of methodologies. Adopting Microsoft's solution and methodology is one of them. ECM has a large number of users to save the documentations in various types of multimedia data. So, managing multimedia database is very critical in ECM. Therefore the unit and integration test to evaluate the performance can detect the flaws of the system early on, and it has to be enables to reflect the user's requirements thru the user acceptance test. In this paper, we are discussing how to optimize the SQL database before the ECM system is built and used in the real situation thru unit and integration tests.
Rapid Rigid Registration Method Between Intra-Operative 2D XA and Pre-operative 3D CTA Images

In this paper, we propose a rapid rigid registration method for the fusion visualization of intra-operative 2D XA and pre-operative 3D CTA images. In this paper, we propose a global movement estimation based on a trilateration for the fast and robust initial registration. In addition, the principal axis of each image is generated and aligned, and the bounding box of the vascular shape is compared for more accurate initial registration. For the fine registration, two images are registered where the distance between two vascular structures is minimized by selective distance measure. In the experiment, we evaluate a speed, accuracy and robustness using five patients' data by comparing the previous registration method. Our proposed method shows that two volumes can be registered at optimal location rapidly, and robustly comparing with the previous method.
Air Pollutants Tracing Model using Perceptron Neural Network and Non-negative Least Square

In this paper, air pollutant tracing models using perceptron neural network(PNN) and non-negative least square(NNLS) are proposed. When the measured values of the air pollution and the contribution concentration of each source by chemical transport modeling are given, they estimate and trace the amount of the air pollutants emission from each source. Two kinds of emissions data are used in the experiments : CH4 and N2O of Geumgo-dong landfill greenhouse gas, and PM10 of 17 areas in Northeast Asia and eight regions of the Korean Peninsula. Emission values were calculated using pseudo inverse method, PNN and NNLS. Pseudo inverse method could be used for the model, but it may have negative emission values. In order to deal with the problem, we used the PNN and NNLS methods. As a result, the estimation using the NNLS is closer to the measured values than that using PNN. The proposed tracing models have better utilization and generalization than those of conventional pseudo inverse model. It could be used more efficiently for air quality management and air pollution reduction.
A Study on The Desire of Subject and Digital Image

A subject always follows desire caused by primal lack which exceeds its desire on survival. At this time, the immediacy provided by vision and the excellence of information become important means in mediating the object of the desire. The subject who is attracted to the vision and image toward desire cannot get out of the trap of the image. When the film raised unconsciousness to pleasure while reproducing the desire of 'mirror image', the digital image presents a virtual experience on the desire of subject by dominating audience with its perfect image regardless of the existence of the object. This study attempted to prove that unconsciousness of subject has close relation with digital image, which takes other's desire as its own by wrongly identifying other's desire as its own desire and captivates subject by the experience of desiring. According to the result of study, digital image escalates the imaginary desire of subject through the virtuality of image close to reality and captivates subject by giving pleasure to the unconsciousness of subject as a path in going along with the desire of other.
The Visualization Module Composition for Interface User Platform

As the result of this research, the user platform, which reflects the latest interface technology, supports the ideal interface environment in a future city through using the data from social media. The goal of this research is constructing the user interface platform to approach to the data in an easier and practical condition of the interface environment smart space of the future intelligent city for user. It constructs the main module to organize the platform. Interface user platform modules, which were all based on visualization of service, are constructed by visualization agents, visualization social networks, visualization icons, visualization services, visual data, visual maps and visual classes. In this research, by the variety of services including delivering information, to find the interface environment for the proper interface technology, this research suggests "Interface User Platform" as the result.
Android App. Implementation Teaching using App. Inventor for Elementary school students

Smart device appeared as IT technology develops and it caused the proliferation of digital contents. It is because that App technology supports to install and use the contents in the smart device easily. App is developed by the creativity and the programming skill and the commercial value is generated in the process of development. In this paper, we taught how to develop APP to elementary school students by Android App Inventor program and observed the changes of their thinking through reflection-note which describes thinking of them. This research was carried out for 28 elementary school students, 5th and 6th grade. We found the attitude that students try to solve problem actively with the high interest. They enjoy showing developed App to others easily and quickly, which is the characteristic of smart devices. We also found a phenomenon that the students consider commercial value.
