Low Complexity Motion Estimation Search Method for Multi-view Video Coding

Although Motion estimation (ME) plays an important role in digital video compression, it requires a complicated search procedure to find an optimal motion vector. Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. The computational complexity of motion estimation for Multi-view video coding increases in proportion to the number of cameras. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, a low complexity motion estimation search method is proposed in this paper. The proposed search method consists of four-grid diamond search patten, two-gird diamond search pattern and TZ 2 Point search pattern. These search patterns exploit the characteristics of the distribution of motion vectors to place the search points. Experiment results show that the speedup improvement of the proposed method over TZ search method (JMVC) can be up to 1.8~4.5 times faster by reducing the computational complexity and the image quality degradation is about to 0.01~0.24 (dB).
Image Preprocessing in Container Identifier Recognition System Using Multiple Threshold Regions

This paper proposes a method using the multiple threshold regions in the image preprocessing procedure for container identifier recognition system. The multiple threshold regions are set by considering the container image characteristics and used as the candidates for the final one, The image is transformed to black and white images using these threshold regions, then labeling, panelling and panels merging are executed for each candidate, respectively. Finally the best threshold region is selected through this procedure and the character region can be extracted. Applying the similar method the noises are removed and the characters of identifier are segmented from the extracted region. In the experiments with 162 different images the success rates for extracting of the character region and segmenting the characters are 99.04% and 98.09%, respectively.
Improvement of Sparse Representation based Classifier using Fisher Discrimination Dictionary Learning for Malignant Mass Detection

Mammography, the process of using X-ray to examine the woman breast, is the one of the effective tools for detecting breast cancer at an early state. In screening mammogram, Computer-Aided Detection(CAD) system helps radiologist to diagnose cases by detecting malignant masses. A mass is an important lesion in the breast that can indicate a cancer. Due to various shapes and unclear boundaries of the masses, detecting breast masses is considered a challenging task. To this end, CAD system detects a lot of regions of interest including normal tissues. Thus it is important to develop the well-organized classifier. In this paper, we propose an enhanced sparse representation (SR) based classifier using Fisher discrimination dictionary learning. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the existing support vector machine (SVM) classifier.
A Study of an Efficient ZigBee Address Assignment Scheme for Home Area Networks of Smart Grid

In Home Area Network (HAN) of the smart grid, Power Line Communication (PLC) technology and ZigBee communication technology can be used in the communication among the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) devices. However, according to performance evaluation results of the PLC technology, we find that using the PLC technology is unsuitable for the remote meter reading service. It is worth noting that some parts of the PLC are converted to the ZigBee communication technology in Jeju, Korea. Compared with PLC, ZigBee has no restriction of the place, where the equipments can be freely set up, due to the advantage of radio communication. However, number of usable devices will impact the network performance which is depended on the address assignment. In addition, due to the restriction of transmission range among devices, it is difficult to apply the ZigBee address assignment method to the practical circumstance. In this paper, we examine the previous ZigBee address assignment schemes and the corresponding routing algorithms, and propose a novel address assignment scheme compared with the existing methods, the performance of the proposed one is improved. In particular, evaluation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the average number of hop count, the transfer time and the processing time.

Shamir's (k,n)-threshold secret sharing scheme is not secure against cheating by attacker because the signature of participants is omitted. To prevent cheating, many schemes have been proposed, and a proactive secret sharing is one of those. The proactive secret sharing is a method to update shares in the secret sharing scheme at irregular intervals. In this paper, a proactive image secret sharing scheme over

To evaluate security and efficiency of images (i.e. cover and shadow images) distortion between the proposed scheme and the previous schemes, embedding capacity and PSNR are compared in experiments. The experimental results show that the performances of the embedding capacity and image distortion ratio of the proposed scheme are superior to the previous schemes.
A Feature-Based Robust Watermarking Scheme Using Circular Invariant Regions

This paper addresses a feature-based robust watermarking scheme for digital images using a local invariant features of SURF (Speeded-Up Robust Feature) descriptor. In general, the feature invariance is exploited to achieve robustness in watermarking schemes, but the leakage of information about hidden watermarks from publicly known locations and sizes of features are not considered carefully in security perspective. We propose embedding and detection methods where the watermark is bound with circular areas and inserted into extracted circular feature regions. These methods enhance the robustness since the circular watermark is inserted into the selected non-overlapping feature regions instead of entire image contents. The evaluation results for repeatability measures of SURF descriptor and robustness measures present the proposed scheme can tolerate various attacks, including signal processing and geometric distortions.
Frequency and Subcarrier Reuse Partitioning for FH-OFDMA Cellular Systems

One of the most serious factors constraining the next generation cellular mobile consumer communication systems will be the severe co-channel interference experienced at the cell edge. Such a capacity-degrading impairment combined with the limited available spectrum resource makes it essential to develop more spectrally efficient solutions to enhance the system performance and enrich the mobile user's application services. This paper proposes a unique hybrid method of frequency hopping (FH) and subcarrier-reuse-partitioning that can maximize the system capacity by efficiently utilizing the available spectrum while at the same time reduce the co-channel interference effect. The main feature of the proposed method is that it applies an optimal combination of different frequency reuse factors (FRF) and FH-subcarrier allocation patterns into the partitioned cell regions. From the simulation results, it is shown that the proposed method can achieve the optimum number of subcarrier subsets according to the frequency-reuse distance and results in better performance than the fixed FRF methods, for a given partitioning arrangement. The results are presented in the context of both blocking probability and BER performances. It will also be shown how the proposed scheme is well suited to FH-OFDMA based cellular systems aiming at low co-channel interference performance and optimized number of subcarriers.
A Study on the Development of the Flood Risk Index for Roads Considering Real-time Rainfall

The damaged district by flooding has been changed from mainly farmland to cities due to the weather phenomena which is different from the past. This has caused not only irreparable damage of people's lives and property but social infrastructures. There also exist serious damages such as isolation of drivers and traffic jam as the roads were flooded. In this study, we suggested a method to develop a flood risk index focused on not Si, Gun or Gu but roads. In addition, flood risk index in the roads just at the moment, when it rains quantitatively, will be provided by using real-time rainfall information provided by the Weather Center. Then it should be helpful to prevent people from being isolated by flooded roads in advance.
Object-Tracking System Using Combination of CAMshift and Kalman filter Algorithm

In this paper, we describe a strongly improved tracking method using combination of CAMshift and Kalman filter algorithm. CAMshift algorithm doesn't consider the object's moving direction and velocity information when it set the search windows for tracking. However if Kalman filter is combined with CAMshift for setting the search window, it can accurately predict the object's location with the object's present location and velocity information. By using this prediction before CAMshift algorithm, we can track fast moving objects successfully. Also in this research, we show better tracking results than conventional approaches which make use of single color information by using both color information of HSV and YCrCb simultaneously. This modified approach obtains more robust color segmentation than others using single color information.
A Situational Training System based on Augmented Reality for Developmentally Disabled People

Nowadays, many interface devices or training systems have been developed with recent developments in IT technology but only a few training systems for developmentally disabled people have been introduced. In this paper, we present a real-time, interactional and situational training system based on augmented reality in order to improve cognitive capability and adaptive ability in the daily life of developmentally disabled people. Our system is specifically based on serving food in restaurants. This augmented reality based system provides them to experience various different situations safely and take the training session as much as they want under any circumstances. When they use our system, they are able to look around with Head Mounted Display(HMD) and take training sessions easily based on various situational scenarios. After experimenting on our system for 3 months, we found they had no aversion about wearing HMD and learned quicker as they practiced over and over and improved their cognitive capability and adaptive ability. We also got a positive feedback that it had an excellent educational value from teachers in special-education-school.
A New Tree Modeling based on Convolution Sums of Restricted Divisor Functions

In order to model a variety of natural trees that are appropriate to outdoor terrains consisting of multiple trees, this study proposes a modeling method of new growth rules(based on the convolution sums of divisor functions). Basically, this method uses an existing growth-volume based algorithm for efficient management of the branches and leaves that constitute a tree, as well as natural propagation of branches. The main features of this paper is to introduce the theory of convolution sums of divisor functions that is naturally expressed the growth or fate of branches and leaves at each growth step. Based on this, a method of modeling various tree is proposed to minimize user control through a number of divisor functions having generalized generation functions and modification of the growth rule. This modeling method is characterized by its consideration of both branches and leaves as well as its advantage of having a greater effect on the construction of an outdoor terrain composed of multiple trees. Natural and varied tree model creation through the proposed method was conducted, and using this, the possibility of constructing a wide nature terrain and the efficiency of the process for configuring multiple trees were evaluated experimentally.
A Study on Illusion of Digital Image

The desire of humankind that longed for reappearance of visual makes progress within the development of linear history. The directing point at the moment was the 'eye'. Upon completion of setting the aiming point, visual image attempts reflection of main agent beyond reappearance of it and, by extension, aimed to visualize desire which was latent in the instance of main agent. It was able to experience a fantasy in paintings, photos and movies as a stage of desire, of course. Digital, however, suggested a new phasis in creating a fantasy world. This study aimed to research the fantastic nature in digital image that a fantastic image is created as a reflection of both independence and unconsciousness. As a result of research, this study revealed that digital image, as a channel that image and imaginative desire which were saved in id, is created as a perfect stage on the basis of verisimilitude, granting an experience toward realization of desire to a main agent raising id which was repressed by the ego and superego to the surface.
Data Partitioning on MapReduce by Leveraging Data Utility

Today, many aspects of our lives are characterized by the rapid influx of large amounts of data from various application domains. The applications that produce this massive of data span a large spectrum, from social media to business intelligence or biology. This massive influx of data necessitates large scale parallelism for efficiently supporting a large class of analysis tasks. Recently, there have been extensive studies in using MapReduce framework to support large parallelism. While this technique has produced impressive results in diverse applications, the same can not be said for multimedia applications where most of users are interested in a small number of results having high or low score. Thus, in this paper, we develop the data partitioning algorithm which is able to efficiently process large data set having different data utility. The experiment results show that the proposed technique provides significant execution time gains over the existing solution.
