Voice Activity Detection Algorithm using Wavelet Band Entropy Ensemble Analysis in Car Noisy Environments

Voice activity detection is very important process that voice activity separated form noisy speech signal for speech enhance. Over the past few years, many studies have been made on voice activity detection, but it has poor performance in low signal to noise ratio environment or fickle noise such as car noise. In this paper, it proposed new voice activity detection algorithm using ensemble variance based on wavelet band entropy and soft thresholding method. We conduct a survey in a lot of signal to noise ratio environment of car noise to evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm and confirmed performance of the proposed algorithm.
Comparison of Active Contour and Active Shape Approaches for Corpus Callosum Segmentation

The corpus callosum is the largest connective structure in the brain, and its shape and size are correlated to sex, age, brain growth and degeneration, handedness, musical ability, and neurological diseases. Manually segmenting the corpus callosum from brain magnetic resonance (MR) image is time consuming, error prone, and operator dependent. In this paper, two semi-automatic segmentation methods are present: the active contour model-based approach and the active shape model-based approach. We tested these methods on an MR image of the human brain and found that the active contour approach had better segmentation accuracy but was slower than the active shape approach.
Region-growing based Hand Segmentation Algorithm using Skin Color and Depth Information

Extracting hand region from images is the first part in the process to recognize hand posture and gesture interaction. Therefore, a good segmenting method is important because it determines the overall performance of hand recognition systems. Conventional hand segmentation researches were prone to changing illumination conditions or limited to the ability to detect multiple people. In this paper, we propose a robust technique based on the fusion of skin-color data and depth information for hand segmentation process. The proposed algorithm uses skin-color data to localize accurate seed location for region-growing from a complicated background. Based on the seed location, our algorithm adjusts each detected blob to fill up the hole region. A region-growing algorithm is applied to the adjusted blob boundary at the detected depth image to obtain a robust hand region against illumination effects. Also, the resulting hand region is used to train our skin-model adaptively which further reduces the effects of changing illumination. We conducted experiments to compare our results with conventional techniques which validates the robustness of the proposed algorithm and in addition we show our method works well even in a counter light condition.
Skin Pigmentation Detection Using Projection Transformed Block Coefficient

This paper presents an approach for detecting and measuring human skin pigmentation. In the proposed scheme, we extract a skin area by a GMM-EM clustering based skin color model that is estimated from the statistical analysis of training images and remove tiny noises through the morphology processing. A skin area is decomposed into two components of hemoglobin and melanin by an independent component analysis (ICA) algorithm. Then, we calculate the intensities of hemoglobin and melanin by using the projection transformed block coefficient and determine the existence of skin pigmentation according to the global and local distribution of two intensities. Furthermore, we measure the area and density of the detected skin pigmentation. Experimental results verified that our scheme can both detect the skin pigmentation and measure the quantity of that and also our scheme takes less time because of the location histogram.
Finger-Knuckle-Print Verification Using Vector Similarity Matching of Keypoints

Personal verification using finger-knuckle-print(FKP) uses lines and creases at the finger-knuckle area, so the orientation information of texture is an important feature. In this paper, we propose an effective FKP verification method which extracts keypoints using SIFT algorithm and matches the keypoints by vector similarity. The vector is defined as a direction vector which connects a keypoint extracted from a query image and a corresponding keypoint extracted from a reference image. Since the direction vector is created by a pair of local keypoints, the direction vector itself represents only a local feature. However, it has an advantage of expanding a local feature to a global feature by comparing the vector similarity among vectors in two images. The experimental results show that the proposed method is superior to the previous methods based on orientation codes.
Feedback Burst Loss Ratio Control for Link Performance Improvement in Optical Bur st Switching Networks

Known as an important criterion that evaluates performance of future high-speed backbone networks, burst data loss ratio is well-studied in Optical Burst Switching networks. Current literatures mostly focus on reduce burst loss ratio without considering the system stability and link utilization after reducing. In this paper, we propose a novel framework which comes from feedback theoretic to dynamically control burst loss ratio in OBS. The proposed scheme tries to track the pre-set values of burst loss ratio and increases the stability and link utilization degree. The simulation results show that measured burst loss ratio always tracks setup reference with small errors, wavelength channel utilization is increased up to 2% and the system stability is also improved.
Dynamically Adjusted Probabilistic Broadcasting Mechanism based on Distance Ratio and Node Density for MANETs

As broadcasting is the process that a node sends a packet to all nodes in the network. it is basic process used for discovering of a routes to a node and disseminating of control information message in Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET). In this paper, we propose dynamically adjusted probabilistic mechanism based on distance ratio and node density for broadcasting in MANETs. The distance ratio can be calculated as the ratio of the radio strength length to the distance from sender of a node, and node density can be get from 1-hop nodes of neighbours. A mobile node receiving broadcast packets determines the probability of rebroadcasting considering distance ratio and node density of itself. Rebroadcast probability will be set as low value to a node which is located in nearby area of sender and has high 1-hop node density, So it reduces packets transmission caused by the early die-out of rebroadcast packets. Compared with the simple flooding and fixed probabilistic flooding by simulation, our approach shows better performances results. Proposed algorithm can reduce the rebroadcast packet delivery more than 30% without scanting reachability, where as it shows up to 96% reachability compared with flooding.
Development of a Smart Application for Protecting Dementia Patients

The applications for considering their position and daily patterns of dementia patients have been developed in an early stage even if the older patients who have weaker or serious symptoms has increased in various forms. In this paper, we develop an android-based application which displays positions and pathways of patients on maps and provide messages in the cases of dangerous situations. Guardians need to register schedules including safe areas and personal information of their patients. This system registers behavior status categorized as normal or abnormal each position which is sent to a database. In particular, the deviation status is assigned in case the patients are not within the safe areas that their guardians registered on their schedule. The wandering status is assigned in case the patients are repeatedly passed by their pathways. This smart application contains the modules such as patient position sending, guardian and patient information, patient schedule and safe zone registration, position and behavior status registration, pathway display and message sending, and rescue request. This system sends the notification and alarm service providing normal and abnormal behavior with deviation and wandering status of patients respectively.
A Study on Development of Effective MMORPG Character Design through Cognition

Customizing system is acting a main role for the character production system of MMORPG. However, since using the high degree of freedom in MMORPG, these characters are too individual and lack of awareness. We can describe each character's emotional characteristics and understand the correlation of characters more easily by adjusting design factors capable of cognitive decision to characters. Game character developer should consider seeking efficient character design process that is suitable to MMORPG game environment and users for proper character recognition and promoting character preferences. In addition, this research being extended on the article vol.13, no.3, "A Study on Cognitive and Preference of Games' Character" on Korean Society of Basic Design in June 2012 issue and this study is expected to have effectives as one method for the purpose of this research is to inquire and present what type of relation lies between recognition and preference of game characters of MMORPG.
Measuring Perceived Depth For The Object Using 3D Content Depth Measuring Instrument

Recently, stereoscopic three-dimensional(S3D) movie and video are becoming globally popular. However, there are some people who could not perceive 3D depth information well. Traditional stereopsia test tools could not analyze the subject's perceived depth accurately. Therefore, it is necessary to have a test tool that accurately measures the degree of perceived depth of subjects. In this paper, we suggested a 3D content depth measuring instrument and produced suitable 3D contents for the instrument. We measured subjects' perceived depth of 3D foreground objects in terms of
binocular disparity and compared the measured values with the theoretical values. Measured values were slightly bigger than the theoretical values. Deviation between the measured values and theoretical values increased with extrusion distances.
A Study on Arts and Crafts ideas with Works of William Morris

These days there is a flow of support for returning to design and handcraft, and the arts and crafts ideas of William Morris have an influence until the present over periods. The semanticity and methodology of guild production method supported by William Morris is studied. The foundation that human is in beautiful harmony with nature is on free labor and artistic life. In the organic relationship, the decline of art is understood as general crisis of culture, and human living condition should be changed in order to rouse the human sense of beauty and comprehension of art. Once human labor becomes artistic, the consumption living and local living become artistic as well. And then consumers desire more artistic works, structures, or urban spaces, and the demands for those move artificers to go toward producing more artistic works and structures. That is, the course of succession of art and culture through living is the driving force of social progress. Even if the period when Morris lived and the present are very different, this paper will shows that a large amount of art and culture will be greatly developed in twenty-first century which is 'the period led by cultural consumers', and the people directly creating art works will be also increased at the same time, as Alvin Toffler suggested. Furthermore, we can aware through this paper that such the people will rule the world. Finally it reached the period that we must face to 'making artistic life' as Morris expected a century ago. According to the result of this paper, we realized the study about Morris will contribute greatly to improve the quality of human life.
