Language Identification by Fusion of Gabor, MDLC, and Co-Occurrence Features

In this paper, we propose a texture feature-based language identification by fusion of Gabor, MDLC (multi-lag directional local correlation), and co-occurrence features. In the proposed method, for a test image, Gabor magnitude images are first obtained by Gabor transform followed by magnitude operator. Moments for the Gabor magniude images are then computed and vectorized. MDLC images are then obtained by MDLC operator and their moments are computed and vectorized. GLCM (gray-level co-occurrence matrix) is next calculated from the test image and co-occurrence features are computed using the GLCM, and the features are also vectorized. The three vectors of the Gabor, MDLC, and co-occurrence features are fused into a feature vector. In classification, the WPCA (whitened principal component analysis) classifier, which is usually adopted in the face identification, searches the training feature vector most similar to the test feature vector. We evaluate the performance of our method by examining averaged identification rates for a test document image DB obtained by scanning of documents with 15 languages. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields excellent language identification with rather low feature dimension for the test DB.
Smoke Detection Using the Ratio of Variation Rate of Subband Energy in Wavelet Transform Domain

Early fire detection is very important to avoid loss of lives and material damage. The conventional smoke detector sensors have difficulties in detecting smoke in large outdoor areas. The video-based smoke detection can overcome these drawbacks. This paper proposes a new smoke detection method in video sequences. It uses the ratio of variation rate of subband energy in the wavelet transform domain. In order to reduce the false alarm, candidate smoke blocks are detected by using motion, decrease of chromaticity and the average intensity of block in the YUV color space. Finally, it decides whether the candidate smoke blocks are smokes or not by using their temporal changes of subband energies in the wavelet transform domain. Experimental results show that the proposed method noticeably increases the accuracy of smoke detection and reduces false alarm compared with the conventional smoke detection methods using wavelets.
Voice Activity Detection employing the Generalized Normal-Laplace Distribution

In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to improve the performance of a voice activity detection(VAD) which is based on the generalized normal-Laplace(GNL) distribution. In our algorithm, the probability density function(PDF) of the noisy speech signal is represented by the GNL distribution and the variance of the speech and noise of GNL distribution are estimated using higher order moments. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm yields better results compared to the conventional VAD algorithms.
Plant leaf Classification Using Orientation Feature Descriptions

According to fast change of the environment, the structured study of the ecosystem by analyzing the plant leaves are needed. Expecially, the methodology that searches and classifies the leaves from captured from the smart device have received numerous concerns in the field of computer science and ecology. In this paper, we propose a plant leaf classification technique using shape descriptor by combining Scale Invarinat Feature Transform (SIFT) and Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) from the image segmented from the background via Graphcut algorithm. The shape descriptor is coded in the field of Locality-constrained Linear Coding to optimize the meaningful features from a high degree of freedom. It is connected to Support Vector Machines (SVM) for efficient classification. The experimental results show that our proposed approach is very efficient to classify the leaves which have similar color, and shape.
Voice Activity Detection Algorithm using Fuzzy Membership Shifted C-means Clustering in Low SNR Environment

Voice activity detection is very important process that find voice activity from noisy speech signal for noise cancelling and speech enhancement. Over the past few years, many studies have been made on voice activity detection, it has poor performance for speech signal of sentence form in a low SNR environment. In this paper, it proposed new voice activity detection algorithm that has beginning VAD process using entropy and main VAD process using fuzzy membership shifted c-means clustering. We conduct an experiment in various SNR environment of white noise to evaluate performance of the proposed algorithm and confirmed good performance of the proposed algorithm.
A programmable Soc for Var ious Image Applications Based on Mobile Devices

This paper presents a programmable System-On-a-chip for various embedded applications that need Neural Network computations. The system is fully implemented into Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based prototyping platform. The SoC consists of an embedded processor core and a reconfigurable hardware accelerator for neural computations. The performance of the SoC is evaluated using real image processing applications, such as optical character recognition (OCR) system.
An Effective Early Termination Motion Estimation Method for Multi-view Video Coding

Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. Multi-view video coding requires high computational complexity. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, an effective early termination motion estimation method is proposed in this paper. The proposed method exploiting the characteristic of motion vector distribution uses a hierarchical search strategy. This strategy method consists of multi-grid square search pattern, modified diamond search pattern, small diamond search pattern and raster search pattern. Experiment results show that the speedup improvement of the proposed method over TZ search method and FS(Full Search) method JMVC (Joint Multiview Video Coding) can be up to 1.7~4.5 times and 90 times faster respectively while maintaining similar video quality and bit rates.
Structural analysis of trabecular bone using Automatic Segmentation in micro-CT images

This paper proposes an automatic segmentation method of cortical bone and trabecular bone and describes an implementation of structural analysis method of trabecular bone in micro-CT images. The proposed segmentation method extract bone region with binarization using a threshold value. Next, it finds adjacent contour lines from outer boundary line into inward direction and sets candidate regions of cortical bone. Next it remove cortical bone region by finding the candidate cortical region of which the average pixel value is maximum. We implemented the method which computes four structural indicators BV/TV, Tb.Th, Tb.Sp, Tb.N by using VTK(Visualization ToolKit) and sphere fitting algorithm. We applied the implemented method to twenty proximal femur of mouses and compared with the manual segmentation method. Experimental result shows that the average error rates between the proposed segmentation method and the manual segmentation method are less than 3% for the four structural indicatiors. This result means that the proposed method can be used instead of the combersome and time consuming manual segmentation method.

Cloud computing is an internet-based technology, providing services to the virtualized IT environment, and allowing users to add or remove resources of hardware or software at their discretion. Since Cloud computing can construct virtually integrated environments out of multiple local computing environments, various information services can be provided by it. In addition, state organizations also strive to build the cloud computing environments due to the benefits of reduced costs to introduce the system and of reduced time to build and provide the IT services. This study suggests a web-based cloud computing system for the computing environments, to be applied for the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, Republic of Korea.
Design and Implementation of the Digital Signage System Enabled Customized Services using the SaaS Method

This research enables the user to have access to the desired service which is on the multi-platform display device by establishment customized Digital Signage System using the SaaS method. This system is significantly favorable due to the following points: the expandibility and portability is outstanding compared with the existing signage system, establishment expenses may be reduced because the platform can be established in various configurations independently, maintenance and management, and the strong point of the system is that costs can be reduced due to the fact that the electric power can be controlled according to environmental situations. Various researches should be conducted simultaneously such as researches on automatic pattern recognition technologies which recognizes the sex, age, location among other data of the user and various methods of image processing for the production of contents to elaborate lively contents to provide diverse experience and enjoyable configurations for the future generation.
Advancement in Techne and strategy of image for Mimesis

Humankind longed for an image like the sense of sight and has developed history of image on the basis of the will toward record and reproduction. A long period of time was required for accumulation of technology for reproduction of an object, but directing point has always been impression experienced by the 'eyes.' But it has not all been pointing in the realistic image. This study aimed to discuss about its process and directing point of the paradigm of image creation that has been continued together with progress of humankind based on the academic outcomes achieved by Platon. 'Mimesis' classified by Plato required techne how far it may be distant from 'Idea.' Techne went forward in the direction of securing rationality according to accumulation of civilization in the end and reality, the history of mimesis was the process toward 'realistic image' and 'fantastic image'.
Development of Video Caption Editor with Kinetic Typography

In this paper, we developed an Android application named VIVID where users can edit the moving captions easily on smartphone videos. This makes it convenient to set the time range, text, location and motion of caption text on the video. The editing result is uploaded to web server in html and can be shared with other users.
The Implementation of an Roof Structure Generating Tool based on the Structural Analysis of Roof Curvature in Traditional Buildings

This research proposes a method to draw a number of components for roof frame in 3D datum. It is based on the analysis of the roof curvature and their geometric relationship in the traditional wooden buildings. Correlations between the components that generate a roof surface is defined with functional formula. The design system which automatically generates 3D datum for the components is implemented by reflecting the structural mechanics for them. The suggested system provides a control function to easily draw a traditional house. In this system, the components engaged in forming a roof surface are not only automatically generated but also simply modified according to the user's request. It would improves design efficiency and ensure a various roof surface design. Furthermore it makes possible systematic drawing and standardized industrial processing. Consequently, the proposed method is expected to contribute to the popularization of traditional house constructing.
