Hand Segmentation Using Depth Information and Adaptive Threshold by Histogram Analysis with color Clustering

This paper presents a method for hand segmentation using depth information, and adaptive threshold by means of histogram analysis and color clustering in HSV color model. We consider hand area as a nearer object to the camera than background on depth information. And the threshold of hand color is adaptively determined by clustering using the matching of color values on the input image with one of the regions of hue histogram. Experimental results demonstrate 95% accuracy rate. Thus, we confirmed that the proposed method is effective for hand segmentation in variations of hand color, scale, rotation, pose, different lightning conditions and any colored background.
Object-Action and Risk-Situation Recognition Using Moment Change and Object Size's Ratio

This paper proposes a method to track object of real-time video transferred through single web-camera and to recognize risk-situation and human actions. The proposed method recognizes human basic actions that human can do in daily life and finds risk-situation such as faint and falling down to classify usual action and risk-situation. The proposed method models the background, obtains the difference image between input image and the modeled background image, extracts human object from input image, tracts object's motion and recognizes human actions. Tracking object uses the moment information of extracting object and the characteristic of object's recognition is moment's change and ratio of object's size between frames. Actions classified are four actions of walking, waling diagonally, sitting down, standing up among the most actions human do in daily life and suddenly falling down is classified into risk-situation. To test the proposed method, we applied it for eight participants from a video of a web-cam, classify human action and recognize risk-situation. The test result showed more than 97 percent recognition rate for each action and 100 percent recognition rate for risk-situation by the proposed method.
Semi-automated Approach to Hippocampus Segmentation Using Snake from Brain MRI

The hippocampus has been known as one of the most important structure related to many neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's disease. This paper presents the snake model to segment hippocampus from brain MRI. The snake model or active contour model is widely used in medical image processing fields, especially image segmentation they look onto nearby edge, localizing them accurately. We applied a snake model on brain MRI. Then we compared our results with an active shape approach. The results show that hippocampus was successfully segmented by the snake model.
Performance Evaluation of Distributed MAC Protocol Algorithm for Efficient Multimedia Transmission

The salient features of UWB(Ultra WideBand) networks such as high-rate communications, low interference with other radio systems, and low power consumption bring many benefits to users, thus enabling several new applications such as wireless universal serial bus (WUSB) for connecting personal computers (PCs) to their peripherals and the consumer-electronics (CE) in people's living rooms. Because the size of multimedia data frame, WiMedia device must transmit the fragment of MSDU. However, when the fragment of MSDU is lost, WiMedia device maintains active mode for the time to complete the transmission MSDU, and there is a problem that unnecessary power consumption occurs. Therefore we propose new power management scheme to reduce unnecessary power consumption of WiMedia devices in the case that the fragment is lost.
A Study on Message Inter-working Framework for sending SMS to RCS-e

Mobile phone users have been using the SMS to send and receive text messages between them. Recently, GSMA(GSM Association) proposed the next generation instant messaging service, RCS-e(Rich Communication Service-enhanced). This was unavoidable because new OTT(Over The Top) services have emerged that threat the SMS after smart phones became popular. However, the RCS-e has limitations that it cannot inter-operate with the SMS which is still widely used. This paper propose a software framework that inter-work SMS with RCS-e. Call flows for canceling wireless contracts and sending SMS messages to RCS-e users were defined. Also, methods for protocol conversion were defined to inter-work two services. The performance evaluation showed that the proposed framework does not increase loads on IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) infrastructure.
Data-centric Energy-aware Re-clustering Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks

In the wireless sensor network environment, clustering scheme has a problem that a large amount of energy is unnecessarily consumed because of frequently occurred entire re-clustering process. Some of the studies were attempted to improve the network performance by getting rid of the entire network setup process. However, removing the setup process is not worthy. Because entire network setup relieves the burden of some sensor nodes. The primary aim of our scheme is to cut down the energy consumption through minimizing entire setup processes which occurred unnecessarily. Thus, we suggest a re-clustering scheme that considers event detection, transmitting energy, and the load on the nodes. According to the result of performance analysis, our scheme reduces energy consumption of nodes, prolongs the network lifetime, and shows higher data collection rate and higher data accuracy than the existing schemes.
Android App Development System Using Modular Method

As the more people use smart phones, the interest in the apps gets the higher. Studies such as App Inventor, app generation methods using templates provide app development process with app development methods by substituting programming work. However, the realm of producible apps is limited and there are a lot of set up operations and input informations. Also, there is lack of support for smart phone sensors that are in a high demand of utilization. This paper proposed an android app development method for resolving existing problems, and implemented an accompanying app development tool. When the proposed app development method derived through combination of function modules and sensor modules is used, it's possible to produce apps with minimal user inputs, and to use sensors easily. Also, because it is simple to identify overall flow of app execution, and functions addible to the app are provided for users by units of module, it is possible to develop apps quickly.
Design and Implementation of Document Management System using Near Field Communication

In spite of the convenience and cost-effectiveness of an electronic document management system the paper-type documents still should be stored for a comparison against the original documents. In this paper, for the efficient management of paper documents, we designed and implemented a document management system using smart devices equipped with NFC(Near Field Communication) technology. To implement the proposed system we designed a database for document management and developed an Android application for smart device using Eclipse 3.0 and Java programming. Whenever we touch the smart phone on the NFC tags which are attached to the paper-type documents and document boxes, it is possible to registering, searching and carrying in and out services for documents and boxes. This study provides smart phone users with systematic, economical and convenient paper-type documents management functions, and thus enhances the business efficiency.
A Comparative Study on the Effects of BIM and Conventional 3D Modeler on the Idea Generation in Architectural Design Process

While BIM software becomes popular for CAAD and architectural design educations, the affordance of BIM for students' architectural idea developments, called intra-process of communication, is still unknown. Therefore, this study conducted t-test quantitative analysis in order to the scores for feedback, idea productivity, idea development for architectural elements(form, interior space, material, and details), and creative motivation(novelty, appropriateness) using BIM and non-BIM 3D modeler. To achieve the goal, in authentic CAAD class, architecture major students proposed two office designs using those two tools, then they evaluated in which ways those tools influenced their idea developments.
Knowledge Based Underwater Acoustic Communication Smart Decision Block Mechanism

Recently, research on Media Access Control (MAC) techniques for underwater acoustic communication has been conducted actively. For successful acoustic communication in underwater conditions, development of environmentally adaptive MAC techniques, which is taking narrow bandwidth, distance, depth, noise level, salinity, multipath and etc into account, is an especially important work. In this paper, knowledge based system is introduced not only to obtain adaptive and optimal communication parameters but also increase network efficiency and availability by requesting change of MAC techniques based on decisions from knowledge-based system Smart Decision Block (SDB). Computer simulations were also conducted to verify the performance of the proposed system in underwater conditions.
Development of m-Health Application based on Medical Informatics Standards

Recently medical consumers pursue high leveled quality of life through active promotion, prevention, management activity of health as the importance of health during home life is emerged to meet the aging society and chronic diseases. In addition, people are directed to the m-Health for managing yourself their health by using smartphone and various personal health devices, if necessary transmits health data to the physician himself. In the previous studies, m-Health Application were developed and applied in the real clinical environment by adopting the medical information standards was rarely conducted. Therefore, in this study, the m-Health application platform was developed. Developed application was communicate with IEEE 11073 standard protocol using the Bluetooth Health Device Profile in personal health device via smart phone to process blood pressure information, and it converted to HL7 V2.6 ORU_R01 message for send to remote medical server. In addition, we tested the interoperability and safety of the developed application for 23 inpatient and 17 outpatient at D University Hospital. As a result, the blood pressure information has been transmitted without error.
