HSV Color Model based Hand Contour Detector Robust to Noise

This paper proposes the hand contour detector which is robust to noises. Existing methods reduce noises by applying morphology to extracted edges, detect finger tips by using the center of hands, or exploit the intersection of curves from hand area candidates based on J-value segmentation(JSEG). However, these approaches are so vulnerable to noises that are prone to detect non-hand parts. We propose the noise tolerant hand contour detection method in which non-skin area noises are removed by applying skin area detection, contour detection, and a threshold value. By using the implemented system, we observed that the system was successfully able to detect hand contours.
Accurate Registration Method of 3D Facial Scan Data and CBCT Data using Distance Map

In this paper, we propose a registration method of 3d facial scan data and CBCT data using voxelization and distance map. First, two data sets are initially aligned by exploiting the voxelization of 3D facial scan data and the information of the center of mass. Second, a skin surface is extracted from 3D CBCT data by segmenting air and skin regions. Third, the positional and rotational differences between two images are accurately aligned by performing the rigid registration for the distance minimization of two skin surfaces. Experimental results showed that proposed registration method correctly aligned 3D facial scan data and CBCT data for ten patients. Our registration method might give useful clinical information for the oral surgery planning and the diagnosis of the treatment effects after an oral surgery.
Edge Preserving using HOG Guide Filter for Image Segmentation

The edge preserving method is important for image storage and geometric transformation. In this paper, we propose a new edge preserving method using HOG-Guide filter for image segmentation. In our approach, we extract edge information using gradient histogram to set HOG guide line. Then, we use HOG guide line to smooth image. With two to four iterations of smoothing operations, we finally obtain desirable edge preserved image. Our experimental results showed good performances showing that our proposed method is better than other methods.
Development of Wireless License Plate Region Extraction Module Based on Raspberry Pi

A wireless license plate region extracting module is proposed for LPR system controlling multiple gates. This module is cheaply implemented using Raspberry Pi which is open source and high performance. First, as the upper 1/3 of the captured image is discarded as it has no useful information on license plate. Using the OpenCV libraries the edge image is got by Canny algorithm after applying Gaussian filtering to gray image, and the labeling is conducted for 4 consecutive numbers in license plate. These numbers are located using various decision equations, and expanding the numbers region the final license plate region can be extracted. The result image is transferred to Server using wifi direct. Using the proposed module it becomes easy to set up and maintain the LPR system. The experimental results showed that the successful extracting rate was 98.4% using 500 car images with 640 × 480 resolution.
Parallelization of Cell Contour Line Extraction Algorithm

In this paper, a parallel cell contour line extraction algorithm using CUDA, which has no inner contour lines, is proposed. The contour of a cell is very important in a cell image analysis. It could be obtained by a conventional serial contour tracing algorithm or parallel morphology operation. However, the cell image has various damages in acquisition or dyeing process. They could be turn into several inner contours, which make a cell image analysis difficult. The proposed algorithm introduces a min-max coordinates table into each CUDA thread block, and removes the inner contour in parallel. It is 4.1 to 7.6 times faster than a conventional serial contour tracing algorithm.
Automatic Detection Algorithm of Radiation Surgery Area using Morphological Operation and Average of Brain Tumor Size

In this paper, we proposed automatic extraction of brain tumor using morphological operation and statistical tumors size in MR images. Neurosurgery have used gamma-knife therapy by MR images. However, the gamma-knife plan systems needs the brain tumor regions, because gamma-ray should intensively radiate to the brain tumor except for normal cells. Therefore, gamma-knife plan systems spend too much time on designating the tumor regions. In order to reduce the time of designation of tumors, we progress the automatical extraction of tumors using proposed method. The proposed method consist of two steps. First, the information of skull at MRI slices remove using statistical tumors size. Second, the ROI is extracted by tumor feature and average of tumors size. The detection of tumor is progressed using proposed and threshold method. Moreover, in order to compare the effeminacy of proposed method, we compared snap-shot and results of proposed method.
Smoke Detection Method Using Local Binary Pattern Variance in RGB Contrast Imag

Smoke detection plays an important role for the early detection of fire. In this paper, we suggest a newly developed method that generated LBPV(Local Binary Pattern Variance)s as special feature vectors from RGB contrast images can be applied to detect smoke using SVM(Support Vector Machine). The proposed method rearranges mean value of the block from each R, G, B channel and its intensity of the mean value. Additionally, it generates RGB contrast image which indicates each RGB channel’s contrast via smoke’s achromatic color. Uniform LBPV, Rotation-Invariance LBPV, Rotation-Invariance Uniform LBPV are applied to RGB Contrast images so that it could generate feature vector from the form of LBP. It helps to distinguish between smoke and non smoke area through SVM. Experimental results show that true positive detection rate is similar but false positive detection rate has been improved, although the proposed method reduced numbers of feature vector in half comparing with the existing method with LBP and LBPV.
Temporal Prediction Structure and Motion Estimation Method based on the Characteristic of the Motion Vectors

Efficient multi-view coding techniques are needed to reduce the complexity of multi-view video which increases in proportion to the number of cameras. To reduce the complexity and maintain image quality and bit-rates, an motion estimation method and temporal prediction structure are proposed in this paper. The proposed motion estimation method exploits the characteristic of motion vector distribution and the motion direction and motion size of the block to place search points and decide the search patten adaptively. And the proposed prediction structure divides every GOP to decide the maximum index of hierarchical B layer and the number of pictures of each B layer. Experiment results show that the complexity reduction of the proposed temporal prediction structure and motion estimation method over hierarchical B pictures prediction structure and TZ search method which are used in JMVC(Joint Multi-view Video Coding) reference model can be up to 45∼70% while maintaining similar video quality and bit rates.
A Study on Needle Detection by using RGB Color Information

In this paper, a detection algorithm for the removal of needle in oriental clinic is presented. First, in the proposed method, the candidate areas of each needle penetrated are selected by using the RGB color information of needle head, and the false candidates are removed by considering their area size. Next, two main edges of the needle are extracted through using the edges of selected candidate areas and their radon transformation. The final verification of penetrated needle is accomplished by using the morphological analysis of these two edge lines. In the experiments, the detection rate of proposed method reaches to 99% for the 36 images containing 294 needles.
Limited Flooding Scheme in Mobile Sensor Networks

Mobile Sensor Networks (MSN) is composed of a distributed collection of mobile sensor nodes, each of which has sensing, computation, communication and locomotion capabilities. Since the routing path can be broken when some nodes on the path move to other position, MSN may have a high rate of communication failure. So, MSN has to provide a means for low-cost and low-power routing to support mobility of sensor nodes. In this paper, a limited flooding scheme for routing in MSN is proposed to allow efficient energy utilization without requiring any complicated tasks for path maintenance.
Design and Implementation of the Script-based EMS for Flexible Management of Stand-alone Microgrid

Nowadays, in islands where electricity should be provided autonomously, stand-alone microgrid technologies using renewable energy such as sunlight generation and wind power generation come into wide use. The microgrid electricity generation using renewable energy is greatly affected by the natural environment of a site. In order to maintain stable electricity supply for fluctuating electricity generation due to natural environment, the energy management via EMS is positively necessary. In existing stand-alone microgrid EMS, system operation logic is not changeable flexibly because compiled or builded codes are released into the EMS of a site, respectively. In this paper, we designed a flexible operating script-based microgrid EMS Framework for various sites and applied it to some island sites. We could confirm its usability.
Visualization pursuant to Developing 37 Honoured Ones within The Diamond World Mandala

In this paper, we describe visualization pursuant of developing 37 Honored Ones within the Diamond World Mandala. “The 37 Honored Ones” are a collective term for 5 Buddhas and 32 Bodhisattvas that were built on the basis of Vajrasekhara Sutra. Also, as core values of Buddhism, they represent ideas of Esoteric Buddhism systematically and symbolically. “The 37 Honored Ones” are completed by the development of 4 Buddhas from Vairocana and their interaction with 16 Great Bodhisattvas and 16 Offering Bodhisattvas that were also developed from Vairocana. So, in this paper, we analyze and visualize the development of “37 Honored Ones.” This line of research is significant because it aims to convert narrative structure of the conventional Buddhism scriptures into various types of digital contents. Also, applications of the implemented visual digital contents can be as follows; educational service for Buddhist doctrines, development of the various Buddhist cultural contents, etc.
