Traversable Region Detection Algorithm using Lane Information and Texture Analysis

Traversable region detection is an essential step for advanced driver assistance systems and self-driving car systems, and it has been conducted by detecting lanes from input images. The performance can be unreliable, however, when the light condition is poor or there exist no lanes on the roads. To solve this problem, this paper proposes an algorithm which utilizes the information about the number of lanes and texture analysis. The proposed algorithm first specifies road region candidates by utilizing the number of lanes information. Among road region candidates, the road region is determined as the region in which texture is homogeneous and texture discontinuities occur around its boundaries. Traversable region is finally detected by dividing the estimated road region with the number of lanes information. This paper combines the proposed algorithm with a lane detection-based method to construct a system, and simulation results show that the system detects traversable region even on the road with poor light conditions or no lanes.
New Still Edge Image Compression based on Distribution Characteristics of the Value and the Information on Edge Image

In this paper, we propose a new compression method for the edge image by analyzing the characteristics and the distribution of pixel values of the edge image. The pixel values of the edge image have the Gaussian distribution around '0', and most of the pixel values are `0`. By these analyses we suggest the Zero-Based codec that expresses all values in a CU by a single bit flag. Also, in order to reduce the computational complexity of the proposed codec, the block partition and the intra-prediction techniques are proposed by using edge information like the number of each edge direction, the distribution and the amplitude of a major edge direction in the CU. Experimental results show that the proposed codec leads to a slighter distortion in Y domain than that of HEVC, but has far faster processing speed up to 53 times while it maintains the similar image quality compared to HEVC.
Superpixel-based Vehicle Detection using Plane Normal Vector in Dispar ity Space

This paper proposes a framework of superpixel-based vehicle detection method using plane normal vector in disparity space. We utilize two common factors for detecting vehicles: Hypothesis Generation (HG) and Hypothesis Verification (HV). At the stage of HG, we set the regions of interest (ROI) by estimating the lane, and track them to reduce computational cost of the overall processes. The image is then divided into compact superpixels, each of which is viewed as a plane composed of the normal vector in disparity space. After that, the representative normal vector is computed at a superpixel-level, which alleviates the well-known problems of conventional color-based and depth-based approaches. Based on the assumption that the central-bottom of the input image is always on the navigable region, the road and obstacle candidates are simultaneously extracted by the plane normal vectors obtained from K-means algorithm. At the stage of HV, the separated obstacle candidates are verified by employing HOG and SVM as for a feature and classifying function, respectively. To achieve this, we trained SVM classifier by HOG features of KITTI training dataset. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed vehicle detection system outperforms the conventional HOG-based methods qualitatively and quantitatively.
Face Image Analysis using Adaboost Learning and Non-Square Differential LBP

In this study, we presented a method for non-square Differential LBP operation that can well describe the micro pattern in the horizontal and vertical component. We proposed a way to represent a LBP operation with various direction components as well as the diagonal component. In order to verify the validity of the proposed operation, Differential LBP was investigated with respect to accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity for the classification of facial expression. In accuracy comparison proposed LBP operation obtains better results than Square LBP and LBP-CS operations. Also, Proposed Differential LBP gets better results than previous two methods in the sensitivity and specificity indicators 'Neutral', 'Happiness', 'Surprise', and 'Anger' and excellence Differential LBP was confirmed.
System for Detecting Driver's Drowsiness Robust Variations of External Illumination

In this study, a system is proposed for analyzing whether driver's eyes are open or closed on the basis of images to determine driver's drowsiness. The proposed system converts eye areas detected by a camera to a color space area to effectively detect eyes in a dark situation, for example, tunnels, and a bright situation due to a backlight. In addition, the system used a thickness distribution of a detected eye area as a feature value to analyze whether eyes are open or closed through the Support Vector Machine(SVM), representing 90.09% of accuracy. In the experiment for the images of driver wearing glasses, 83.83% of accuracy was obtained. In addition, in a comparative experiment with the existing PCA method by using Eigen-eye and Pupil Measuring System the detection rate is shown improved. After the experiment, driver's drowsiness was identified accurately by using the method of summing up the state of driver's eyes open and closes over time and the method of detecting driver's eyes that continue to be closed to examine drowsy driving.
P-Waves and T-Wave Detection Algorithm in the ECG Signals Using Step-by-Step Baseline Alignment

The detection of P-waves and T-wave in the electrocardiogram signal analysis is an important issue. But the accuracy of the boundary detection algorithm is an insufficient level in the change of slow transition in the signal compared to the QRS complex. This study proposes an algorithm to detect P-wave and T-wave sequentially after determining local baseline using QRS complex. First, we detected the peak points based on local baseline and determined the onset and offset through the calculation of the area of the section. After modifying the baseline using detected waveform, we detected the other waveform in the same way and separated the P-wave and the T-wave based on the location. We used the PhysioNet QT database to evaluate the performances of the algorithm, and calculate the mean and the standard deviations. The experiment results show that standard deviations are under the tolerances accepted by expert physicians, and outperform the results obtained by the other algorithms.
Double Encryption of Binary Image using a Random Phase Mask and Two-step Phase-shifting Digital Holography

In this paper, double encryption technique of binary image using random phase mask and 2-step phase-shifting digital holography is proposed. After phase modulating of binary image, firstly, random phase mask to be used as key image is generated through the XOR operation with the binary phase image. And the first encrypted image is encrypted again through the fresnel transform and 2-step phase-shifting digital holography. In the decryption, simple arithmetic operation and inverse Fresnel transform are used to get the first decryption image, and second decryption image is generated through XOR operation between first decryption image and key image. Finally, the original binary image is recovered through phase modulation.
A Study on the Improved Business Processes of e-Government System for the Integration of Civil Affairs and Suggestions Services

For effective management and processing for civil affairs, online public services are in operation in every administrative organizations. However, due to the lack of links in each government departmental business processes on e-Government system, the satisfaction of the civil petitioners has not improved. In this paper, we propose an improved business process for the implementation of one-stop integrated civil affairs and suggestions services on e-Government system to reduce the time and cost for processing civil affairs and to improve the efficiency of the public services by cutting down the cost and time. This paper also suggests the ways to improve the quality of public service through redesigning civil affairs processing in the light of integrated system for the civil affairs and its suggestion.
The Comparative Analysis of Middle School Informatics Textbooks Based on 2009 Revised Curriculum

In this paper, we examined informatics textbooks for middle school students in accordance with 2009 revised curriculum through conducting both content analysis and surveys. The content analysis was analyzed the composition and contents of textbooks. Survey questionnaires were based on the authorization criteria and selection standards of informatics textbooks. The content analysis demonstrated that there were discrepancies among textbooks in areas such as the total number of pages, related material, the number of core concepts introduced in each chapter, and the application of software. The survey results showed that two sections - 'Expression and Modification' and 'Text' exhibited the most positive results, and the 'Creativity' section the least. Using the findings above, we present alternative ways to improve qualities of these textbooks.
An Analysis of Visual Storytelling Characteristics of Desire in Animation - Regarding Affiliation, Achievement, and Nurturance

Successful Visual Story Telling(VST) of desire is a crucial key for the success of animation because desire is the leading power of story development of animation. An analysis of the desire of VST using the top 5 successful American feature film animations is carried out. Totally, 147 desire shots are extracted by using the proposed Objective Selection of Desire Shots(OSDS) method based on the theory of Makee's conflict and desire pursuing modeling, Maslow's 20 desire types, Greimas's actant model, and the 17 narrative process classification. In addition to them, the 5 Beat(5B) model of a scene is proposed. Five image specialists have evaluated VST of the selected 147 desire shots. For each shot, the desire type among the 20 desires and the strength are obtained. Among them, the top 3 desires(affiliation, achievement, and nurturance) appearing 51.8% are analyzed. The composition elements of shots affecting the desire type and the strength have found. These can be used for better VST of preproduction and production of animation.
Car Driving Simulation Game using 3-axis Gyroscope Sensor

A simulation game represented the real world and situation as a video games, In the first time, this simulation game primarily applied to military practice areas and then it's applied areas were extended to strategy, flighting, racing, life areas. In this paper, we developed the driving simulator that operate the 3-axis sensor attached driver's handle which could forward/backward moving, control of direction, and transmit of gear in the virtual space. For more the realities of the situation and accuracy of the location and speed, we adopted the 3-axis sensing informations, Unreal engine4' and Blueprint.
Analysis on Signification of Actant for Representation in Dumb Ways to Die - as the Centre Semiotic Analysis of A. J. Greimas

This study is semiotic analysis about 'dumb ways to die' that is produced by Melbourne Railway of Australia in 2012. By analyzing the symbolic representations through 'Actants model' of A.J. Greimas, extract the relationship between signification of the represented object in 'dumb ways to die'. Greimas' model helps to analyze the semiotic interpretation action that occurs above a layer of discourse. In addition, this study is to compare the property to distinguish the Semiotic 'Actants' to cause the behavior of the recipient by represented in the same ideological situation. This can determine the properties of the signification and gauge the level of symbolic images that are reproduced in the discourse process. Accordingly, guidance to become a developer by extracting the reproduction principle of the video that causes a user's action.
