Design and Implementation of Server System for MICS(Medical-Image Conference System) based on CORBA
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 557~565
According to CORBA specification, there are some mechanisms for object reference management such as Naming Service and Trading service, but these mechanism cant's supply all functionalities needed fomanagement in MICS. So, We have designed and implemented additional special-purpose IPO manager. It provides load balancing service based on real-time information for IPO and fault-tolerable services with the management of redundant IPOs and also provides transparent configuration of client environment with the lists of registered IPOs.
Two-Dimensional Model of Hidden Markov Lattice
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 566~574
Although a numbed of variants of 2D HMM have been proposed in the literature, they are, in a word, too simple to model the variabilities of images for diverse classes of objects; they do not realize the modeling capability of the 1D HMM in 2D. Thus the author thinks they are poor substitutes for the HMM in 2D. The new model proposed in this paper is a hidden Markov lattice or, we can dare say, a 2D HMM with the causality of top-down and left-right direction. Then with the addition of a lattice constraint, the two algorithms for the evaluation of a model and the maximum likelihood estimation of model parameters are developed in the theoretical perspective. It is a more natural extension of the 1D HMM. The proposed method will provide a useful way of modeling highly variable patterns such as offline cursive characters.
Design of Image Retrieval System using Color and Morphological Informations based on Binary Sets
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 575~584
This paper presents a new image retrieval system with color and morphological informations based on binary sets. Each of them can be obtained from color binary sets and regional segmentation separately. For retrieval processes, the candidate images are decided by comparing color and their image binary sets of the database with query images. Particularly, it is possible that the retrieval of similar-measurements has a weight of color spatial distribution and its objective morphological features. We proposed a new idea for performing simply the complicated similar-measurement of candidated images to improve queried processes. The retrieval method using spatial and morphological features is shown with the effectiveness on the result of implementation on database with 3,000 images.
A Study on the Color Modelling Method for Color Picture Tube Color Display
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 586~591
Color pictures on CPT are generally affected by the receiver characteristic and the condition of exterior illuminants. Moreover, readjustment of incorrect color in the CPT causes color distortion on a given picture. This paper describes a color adjustment method for modelling of CPT at the view point of observer in the ordinary lighting condition. To develop this method, we proposed ways of luminance recompensation under the gamma transformation for the intensity of illuminant, hue/saturation compensation for the types of illuminant and control of specific color for the reference. Based on these method, a color correlation system is suggested with the goal of reducing the color errors which are represented due to the influence of reflectance component of illuminants, the gamma transformation of CPT and the frequently adjustment of reference scene to set a optimum color.
A Study on Off-Line Signature Verification using Directional Density Function and Weighted Fuzzy Classifier
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 592~603
This paper is concerning off-line signature verification using a density function which is obtained by convolving the signature image with twelve-directional
gradient masks and the weighted fuzzy mean classifier. The twelve-directional density function based on Nevatia-Babu template gradient is related to the overall shape of a signature image and thus, utilized as a feature set. The weighted fuzzy mean classifier with the reference feature vectors extracted from only genuine signature samples is evaluated for the verification of freehand forgeries. The experimental results show that the proposed system can classify a signature whether it is genuine or forged with more than 98% overall accuracy even without any knowledge of varied freehand forgeries.
Performance Improvement of Stereo Acoustic Echo Canceler using the Difference of Stereo Signals
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 604~610
A stereo acoustic echo canceller has significant cross-correlation between each channel signal. As the result, the adaptive filter coefficient that estimates the acoustic echo path of a receiving room can misconverge to the path or converge slowly. In this paper, a new preprocessor using absolute difference in stereo signals is proposed to reduce cross-correlations and to improve the removal efficiency of the stereo acoustic echo. Compared to the previous preprocessor using a half wave rectifier, the newly proposed preprocessor showed better performance according to computer simulation. In addition, when the paths of transmitting room were changed the performance of the proposed preprocessor was not degraded.
A Web-based Remote Instruction System on Real-time using Action Synchronization between the Instructor and Learners
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 611~616
By the most important media to deliver the contents on a remote instruction we commonly use audio and documents. A number of remote instruction system are trying to offer the video, but they did not acquire satisfiable results because of the limited network and width. Also, they use the general web browsers that have a lot of unspecific users access the contents. Also, they use the general web browsers that have a lot of unspecific users access the contents. Like this most systems that use the continuous media have not offer the satisfiable contents because of the network limitation. Moreover, because they use the web browser, they offer the contents having documents(web pages) only. In this paper, we propose a web-based remote instruction system on real-time using audio and documents which are the most important media for a information delivery. In addition to the system, we use a action synchronization mechanism between the web browsers. If the instructor uses web pages on his computer and explains the contents of them, the learners see the same web pages as the instructor's and listens to his voice.
The Proposals of Identity Escrow Scheme to Control User's Anonymity
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 617~624
We introduce the concept of a Identity Escrow Scheme, an application of key escrow ideas to solve the problem of authentication. In the Identity Escrow Scheme, the User escrows a own real identity to the Issuer and receives a Authentication Information. In authentication step, between the User to the Service Provider, the User only gives a Authentication Information to the Service Provider. Therefore, the Service Provider don't know a real identity of user's. However, when the User does unlawful actions, the Lawful Agent is called by the Service Provider, and his anonymity is revoked by cooperation of the Issuer and the Lawful Agent. We propose new Identity Escrow Schemes and analyze these.
Performance Analysis on Adaptive Modulation Systems with Multislot Allocation for Multimedia Communications
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 625~632
This paper proposes an adaptive multislot allocation algorithm in order to achieve large system capacity and higher throughput data transmissions. The proposed system is the combination of the slow adaptive modulation system, in which the base station dynamically a signs optimum modulation parameters measuring the CNR(carrier to noise power ratio) of each transmission terminal, and the multislot allocation scheme, in which the base station flexibly allocates an appropriate number of TDMA data slots according to the instantaneous load conditions. Computer simulations confirm that the proposed system can tremendously improve average message delay characteristics in comparison with the conventional fixed slot allocation method.
Dominant Source Based Tree for Dynamic Multicasting
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 633~642
This paper proposes a dominant source-based tree (DSBT) that constructs a localized multicast routing tree for dynamic multicasting without rerouting. To constrain end-to-end delays a multicast tree needs to be reconstructed when a new node joins the group due to additive tree constraint. In DSBT, a multicast group G is expressed by a (DS, NCM) pair, where DS is a dominant source address and NCM is a normalized cost margin. A node wishing to participate in a group selects a path that complies with NCM toward DS such that the end-to-end cost is constrained without any rerouting. Simulation results show that the proposed method performed better in terms of the overall tree cost compared with the Nave algorithm and in terms of the end-to-end delays between any two members compared with the Greedy algorithm.
A Study on the Performance Improvement of TCP using ABR/UBR Services
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 643~651
ATM network technology is generally used for the integration of multimedia services in high-speed Internet. ABR (Available Bit Rate) and UBR (Unspecified Bit Rate) service classes have been developed specifically to support data application. In this paper, through the result of simulation, we analyzed the effect of TCP data transmission performance by using FRR (Fast Retransmission and Recovery) and Nagle's Algorithm on the UBR service, and by adjusting EFCI switch parameter on the ABR service. As a result of our study, performance improvement of TCP over ATM network is observed by adjusting TCP parameters and setting of effective switch parameter.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 652~660
This paper proposes a new type of sampling Phase Detector (SPD) for NRZ random bit synchronization circuit. The proposed SPD calculates the mean value of phase difference between bit interval of input signal and period of local reference. Simulated and experimental results show that the proposed SPD is applicable to the phase detector for NRZ random signal. finally the Random NRZ bit synchronization circuit. is designed and implemented by using SPD.
Web-based SpecCharts Specification Environment for HW/SW Codesign
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 661~673
In this paper, we propose a Web-based HW/SW Codesign Environment with Distributed Architecture (WebCEDA), then design and implement SpecCharts Specification Environment(ScSE) for specifying systems in WebCEDA. WebCEDA has 3-tier client/server architecture than can remedy disadvantages of existing codesign tools, such as platform dependency, difficulty of extension, absence of collaboraton environment. ScSE includes web interface, SpecCharts editor, HW/SW codesin application sever and SpecCharts translator. To verify the operation of ScSE, we specify several example system using SpecCharts editor, then translate it to VHDL using SpecCharts translator and simulate the translated VHDL codes on synopsys. As the results, we know that ScSE has correct operations, also obtain the following advantages, the reduction in system complexity and the natural abstract design.
Analysis of Expander Network on the Hypercube
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 3, issue 6, 2000, Pages 674~684
One key obstacle which has been identified in achieving parallel processing is to communicate effectively between processors during execution. One approach to achieving an optimal delay time is to use expander graph. The networks and algorithms which are based on expander graphs are successfully exploited to yield fast parallel algorithms and efficient design. The AKS sorting algorithm in time O(logN) which is an important result is based on the use of expanders. The expander graph also can be applied to construct a concentrator and a superconcentrator. Since Margulis found a way to construct an explicit linear expander graph, several expander graphs have been developed. But the proof of existence of such graphs is in fact provided by a nonconstructive argument. We investigate the expander network on the hypercube network. We prove the expansion of a sin81e stage hypercube network and extend this from a single stage to multistage networks. The results in this paper provide a theoretical analysis of expansion in the hypercube network.
