A Study on Image Segmentation using Fractal Image Coding - Fast Image Segmentation Scheme -
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 234~332
For a method improving fractal image segmentation which is a new application of fractal image coding, YST scheme have proposed an image segmentation scheme using labeling based on periodic points of pixel transformation and error-correction of labels by iterating fractal transformation. The scheme generates the high quality segmentation, however, it has the redundancy in the process of labeling and correction of labels. To solve this problem, we propose a labeling algorithm based on orbit of pixel transformation and restricted condition on iterating process of fractal transformation.
Collection Selection using Relevance Distribution Information between Queries and Collections in Meta Search
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 287~296
This paper proposes an efficient algorithm to select the proper retrieval results from various information sources in Meta search. The algorithm collects and evaluates the related documents to the given query Then, it determines the appropriate retrieval results based on the relevance between the query and the collected documents. This algorithm depends on the Meta information such as the size N of population, top-ranked information of related documents and the precision in order to choose the most appropriate retrieval result.
Design and Implementation of a CORBA/JMF-based Audio/Video Stream System
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 297~305
Recently advances in high-speed networks and multimedia computer technologies allow new types of multimedia applications to manipulate large volumes of multimedia data. However, in the real time and/or the heterogeneous data transmissions, there are many difficulties such as network transmission delay, the implementation difficulties, and so on. To solve these problems, in this paper, we extend the method of the multimedia service design which is proposed by OMG. To do this, we suggest an efficient real time audio/video stream framework, called Smart Explorer, based un CORBA and JMF Java Media API. And we separate the transmission path of control data from that of media data and use RTP/RTCP protocol for efficient real time audio/video transmission. Also we show the appropriate implementation of the audio/video stream system based on our suggested framework Smart Explorer. In the future, we expect our audio/video stream system to be applied to the real time communication software such as broadcasting, distance learning, and video conferencing.
Noise Reduction using Spectral Subtraction in the Discrete Wavelet Transform Domain
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 306~315
In noise reduction method from noisy speech for speech recognition in noisy environments, conventional spectral subtraction method has a disadvantage which distinction of noise and speech is difficult, and characteristic of noise can't be estimated accurately. Also, noise reduction method in the wavelet transform domain has a disadvantage which loss of signal is generated in the high frequency domain. In order to compensate theme disadvantage, this paper propose spectral subtraction method in continuous wavelet transform domain which speech and non- speech intervals is distinguished by standard deviation of wavelet coefficient, and signal is divided three scales at different scale. The proposed method extract accurately characteristic of noise in order to apply spectral subtraction method by end detection and band division. The proposed method shows better performance than noise reduction method using conventional spectral subtraction and wavelet transform from viewpoint signal to noise ratio and Itakura-Saito distance by experimental.
Generation Method of Color Gamut Mapping Look-up Table Uniformly Selected in the CIELAB Color Space
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 316~323
Gamut mapping is a technique that acts on cross-media color reproduction to transform a color between devices for the purpose of enhancing the appearance or preserving the appearance of an image. Gamut mapping essentially produces color conversion error which depends on the gamut mapping method, source and destination devices, and sample points for gamut modeling. For color space conversion between monitor colors and printer colors, empirical representation using sample measurements is currently widely utilized. Color samples are uniformly selected in the device space such as CMY or RGB, represented as color patches, and then measured. However, in the case of printer, these color samples are not evenly distributed inside the printer gamut and the color conversion error is increased. Accordingly, this paper introduces a equally distributed color sampling method in CIELAB space, a device- independent color space, to reduce color conversion error, and the performance is analyzed via color space conversion experiments using three-dimensional interpolation.
Channel Equalization using Fuzzy-ARTMAP
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 333~338
In this paper, fuzzy-ARTMAP equalizer is developed mainly for overcoming the obstacles, such as complexity and long training, in implementing the previously developed neural-basis equalizers. The proposed fuzzy-ARTMAP equalizer is fast and easy to train and includes capabilities not found in other neural network approaches a small number of parameters, no requirements for the choice of initial weights, no risk of getting trapped in local minima, and capability of adding new data without retraining previously trained data. In simulation studies, binary signals were generated at random from linear channel with Gaussian noise. The performance of the proposed equalizer is compared with other neural net basis equalizers, such as MLP and RBF equalizers. The fuzzy ARTMAP equalizer combines relatively simple structure and fast processing speed; it gives accurate results for nonlinear problems that cannot be solved with a linear equalizer.
A Cell Scheduling Algorithm based on Multi-Priority in ATM Network
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 339~348
In this paper, a cell scheduling algorithm which can be applied to all of the service class in ATM network is proposed. The proposed algorithm classifies the order of priority in each service class into 4 categories and generates the weight of each class service based on the traffic parameters which are negotiated in connection contract. The proposed algorithm guarantees QoS(Quality of Service) to the traffic which is sensitive to delay carrying out CBR and rt_VBR service. As it effectively manages the connection which has small bandwidth, it minimizes the cell delay in the queue. For verifying the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm the proposed algorithm is simulated with existing cell scheduling algorithm and the result is showed.
Performance Improvement of Ethernet using Dynamic Mode Change
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 349~355
In this paper, we newly propose a performance enhanced CSMA/CD MAC(Medium Access Control) protocol for the Ethernet which changes its operation mode dynamically according to the network status, not fixed it as one of p-persistent mode and non-persistent mode. Dynamic mode change occurs independently on each node, and uses the consecutive success count and the fail count of the frame transmission. The simulation result shows that the dynamic mode change maintains the enhanced network utilization and transmission delay characteristics. Also we show the implementation simplicity of our MAC protocol through its conceptual design using the Ethernet commercial chip as it stands.
Cellular Automata with a Complemented Vector as a Non-zero State in the 0-tree of a Linear TPMACA
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 356~362
In this paper, we show the behaviors of all states in C and the states in C', where C' is a complemented cellular automata whose the complemented vector is a nonzero state in the 0-tree of a linear TPMACA C. Also we show that if we know a path in the state-transition graph of C, then we can know the behavior of all states in C.
A Convex Hull Algorithm for 2D Patterns
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 4, 2001, Pages 363~369
This paper proposes a convex hull algorithm for 2D patterns. The proposed algorithm is divided ito 2steps; candidate convex point extraction and final convex point extraction. First step removes as many points as possible that cannot be convex points using simple operation. Second step computes final convex hull of 2D patterns. This method accelerates execution time, since it consists of simple operations. Experimental results show that the proposed method is faster than other 2 methods in speed.
