Storage Manager Considering Spatial Data Characteristics
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 477~488
As total system performance depends on spatial dta management in spatial database system, low cost method is required. However, spatial data have many characters that are different from multimedia data, data size is almost similar by layer and variable from few bytes to tera bytes. So large data manager of EXODUS and Starburst and BLOB etc, make problems that is many Disk I/O and Disk space waste. This paper proposes new storage method for spatial data considering spatial dta characteristics.
Prefetching System based on File Access Pattern Applicable to Multimedia Prefetching Scheme
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 489~499
This paper presents the SIC(Size-Interval-Count) prefetching system that can record the file access patterns of applications within a relatively small space of memory based on the repetitiveness of the file access patterns. The SICPS(SIC Prefetching System) is based on knowledge-based prefetching methods which includes high correctness in predicting future accesses of applications. The proposed system then uses the recorded file access patterns, referred to as "SIC access pattern information", to correctly predict the future accesses of the applications. The proposed prefetching system improved the response time by about 40% compared to the general file system and showed remarkable memory efficiency compared to the previously knowledge-based prefetching methods.
Enhanced Image Compression based on Wavelet using Variable Threshold and Zerotree Structure Scanning
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 500~509
Image compression based on Wavelet gives much better quality than JPEG based on DCT, but suffers from ringing or blurring effects around edges as the compression is increased. In this paper, we proposed enhanced image compression by pre-processing wavelet coefficients. This pre-processing is performed by making a low threshold and enhanced by zerotree scan method when subband's zerotrees are established. It might increase significants coefficient by means of modifying the threshold and reflect on the orientation of subbands. Some experimental results show our method is more efficient than the conventional methods, JPEG. And then the developed coding scheme improves the quality of images and visually shows more pleasing results for most practical images.
Real Time Speaker Close-Up System using The Lip Motion Informations
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 510~517
In this paper, we implement a real time speaker close-up system using lip motion information from input images having some people. After detecting a speaker from input moving pictures through one color CCD camera, the other camera closes up the speaker by using lip motion information. The implemented system detects a face and lip area of each person by means of a facial color and a morphological information, and then finds out a speaker by using lip area variation. A PTZ(Pan/Tilt/Zoom) camera is used in order to close up the detected speaker and it is controlled by RS-232C serial port. Consequently, we can exactly detect a speaker in input moving pictures including more than three people.
High Precision Character Recognition System using The Chaos Theory
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 518~523
This paper proposes the new method which is adopted in extracting character features and recognizing characters using fractal dimension of the Chaos theory which highly recolonizes a minute difference with strange attractor created from Henon system. This paper implements a high precision character recognition system. firstly, it gets features of mesh, projection and cross distance feature from character images. And their feature is converted into data of time series. Then using modified Henon system suggested in this paper, each characters attractor about standard Korean Character, KSC 5601 is reconstructed. Secondly, in order to analyze the Chaotic degree of each characters attractor, it gets last features of character image after calculating box-counting Dimension, Natural Measure, Information Bit, Information Dimension which are meant fractal dimension. An experimental result shows 97.49% character classification rates for 2350 Korean characters using proposed method in this paper.
A Study on the Korean Continuous Speech Recognition using Adaptive Pruning Algorithm and PDT-SSS Algorithm
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 524~533
Efficient continuous speech recognition system for practical applications requires that the processing be carried out in real time and high recognition accuracy. In this paper, we study the acoustic models by adopting the PDT-SSS algorithm and the language models by iterative learning so as to improve the speech recognition accuracy. And the adaptive pruning algorithm is applied to the continuous speech. To verify the effectiveness of proposed method, we carried out the continuous speech recognition for the Korean air flight reservation task. Experimental results show that the adopted algorithm has the average 90.9% for continuous speech recognition and the average 90.7% for word recognition accuracy including continuous speech. And in case of adopting the adaptive pruning algorithm to continuous speech, it reduces the recognition time of about 1.2 seconds(15%) without any loss of accuracy. From the result, we proved the effectiveness of the PDT-SSS algorithm and the adaptive pruning algorithm.
A Study on the Real-time Distributed Content-based Web Image Retrieval System using PC Cluster
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 534~542
Recent content-based image retrieval systems make use of a local single server contained a limited number of images. So these systems are not satisfactory for the Web user's needs that make request for various images on the Web. A content-based image retrieval system that has regard for a great number of Web images has to stand on the basis of real-time first of all. Therefore, to implement the above system we have to resolve a problem of large waste time to take for an image collection and feature extractions. In recent, PC clusters with a load distribution are implemented for the purpose of high-performance data processing. In this paper, we decreased the whole retrieval time by distributing the tasks of image collection and feature extraction to take much time among the slave computers of the PC cluster, and so we found the possibility of the real-time processing in the retrieval of Web images.
Management of Historical Images by Time Interval and Interrelation
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 543~553
In this paper, we proposed management strategy of medical image data in order to solve the problem in traditional medical images migration method. As management strategy of medical image data we proposed EAT(Expanded Average Transaction time) data migration method and data storing method based on temporal interrelation. In EAT data migration strategy, we define the dividing criterion which distinguish entity versions to be stored in each storage and also define entity versions to be stored in each storage. We defined degree of overlap and degree of difference for any two entity versions, and integrated those values and described method which place entity versions to storage. In order to compare the number of cluster references when we change rate of temporal queries, the number of cluster references of proposed method is smaller than that of traditional method.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 554~561
Wavelet transformation method which has special qualities of frequency domain and spatial domain is used for watermarking. We have compared the decree of similarity to find a robust watermarking sequence for different attacks, using random number, gaussian sequence, chaos sequence and sobel sequence. The experimental results show that chaos sequence is an effective sequence for robust watermarking.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 570~578
Boundary scan architecture test methodology was introduced to facilitate the testing of complex printed circuit board. The boundary scan architecture has a tremendous potential for real time monitoring of the operational status of a system without interference of normal system operation. In this paper, a new type of embedded controller for real time monitoring of the operational status of a system is proposed and designed by using boundary scan architecture. The proposed real time monitoring embedded controller consists of test access port controller and an embedded controller proposed real time monitoring embedded controller using boundary scan architecture can save the hard-wire resource and can easily interface with boundary scan architecture chip. Experimental results show that the real time monitoring using proposed embedded controller is more effective then the real time monitoring using host computer.
A Design and Implementation of Parallel Programming Environment using Graphical User Interface
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 4, issue 6, 2001, Pages 579~587
In this paper, we design and implement a parallel programming environment using graphicial user interface. Parallel program must be written according to the characters of various hardwares or programs. So it is difficult to write the parallel program. In this paper, we design and implement a parallel programming environment which solved this problem. The traditional parallel compiler provides the parallel information in the text environment. But this paper provides the parallel information using graphicial user interface so that the user may use it more easily. This parallel environment provide functions such as, data dependence analysis, CFG, HTF, and loop transformation.
