XQL Query Processing System using XML Views
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 5, issue 2, 2002, Pages 129~140
XML has become a standard for exchanging document data on the web. Currently, most of the commercial data are stored in the relational database system. It requires to converse the document into XML form to transfer the data to a relational database system. The purpose of this paper is to research on a query processing system which will make it easy and convenient to raise a query and derive results from the document data stored in a relational database. We have designed a XML view called R2X(Relational To XML). With this R2X view, users can view a relational database as XML documents. Using R2X views, we design and implement a Query processing system which will make it expedient to form a query with a XML query language called XQL.
Detection of Mass by using Homogeneity and Topographic Analysis on Mammogram
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 5, issue 2, 2002, Pages 141~146
This paper proposed the automated methods for th detection of mass. We analysed characteristic of mass by using the features on mammograms. In first step, the homogeneity was used to distinguish mass from the normal tissue. In second step, we examined the dualistic circularity and pixel distribution of candidates from the dualistic images of each candidates in which we regards the gray value as topographic height information. The final decision was done with the method in which each candidates is compared with the hemispheric template. Template matching method was used in comparing the priority of candidates with the spacial circularity which is the characteristic of the mass, We applied the algorithm to the 180 mammograms. The detection resulted that the sensitivity of the proposed methods was 95.51% in which we detected 85 from the 89 mammograms.
Spatio-Temporal 3D Joint Noise Reduction Filter
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 5, issue 2, 2002, Pages 147~157
Noise in image sequences is visually offensive and may mask important image detail. In addition to degradation of visual quality, the noise pattern increases the entropy of the image, and thus hinders effective compression. This paper proposes a spatial and a temporal joint filters to reduce the noise by jointly connecting two adaptive noise reducers with different characteristics, and we also propose an IIR-type 3D noise reduction litter scheme connecting the spatial and the temporal joint filters. The proposed 3D IIR filter not only strongly removes noise in uniform image regions while preserving edges and details but also effectively suppresses temporal flicker caused by noise. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme improves subjective quality as well as objective quality as compared with the various noise filtering techniques.
Two-Dimensional Shape Description of Objects using The Contour Fluctuation Ratio
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 5, issue 2, 2002, Pages 158~166
In this paper, we proposed a contour shape description method which use the CFR(contour fluctuation ratio) feature. The CFR is the ratio of the line length to the curve length of a contour segment. The line length means the distance of two end points on a contour segment, and the curve length means the sum of distance of all adjacent two points on a contour segment. We should acquire rotation and scale invariant contour segments because each CFR is computed from contour segments. By using the interleaved contour segment of which length is proportion to the entire contour length and which is generated from all the points on contour, we could acquire rotation and scale invariant contour segments. The CFR can describes the local or global feature of contour shape according to the unit length of contour segment. Therefore we describe the shape of objects with the feature vector which represents the distribution of CFRs, and calculate the similarity by comparing the feature vector of corresponding unit length segments. We implemented the proposed method and experimented with rotated and scaled 165 fish images of fifteen types. The experimental result shows that the proposed method is not only invariant to rotation and scale but also superior to NCCH and TRP method in the clustering power.
A Hierarchical Image Mosaicing using Camera and Object Parameters for Efficient Video Database Construction
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 5, issue 2, 2002, Pages 167~175
Image Mosaicing creates a new image by composing video frames or still images that are related, and performed by arrangement, composition and redundancy analysis of images. This paper proposes a hierarchical image mosaicing system using camera and object parameters far efficient video database construction. A tree-based image mosiacing has implemented for high-speed computation time and for construction of static and dynamic image mosaic. Camera parameters are measured by using least sum of squared difference and affine model. Dynamic object detection algorithm has proposed for extracting dynamic objects. For object extraction, difference image, macro block, region splitting and 4-split detection methods are proposed and used. Also, a dynamic positioning method is used for presenting dynamic objects and a blurring method is used for creating flexible mosaic image.
HSV Color Model Based Front Vehicle Extraction and Lane Detection using Shadow Information
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 5, issue 2, 2002, Pages 176~190
According as vehicles increases, system such as Advanced Drivers Assistance System(ADAS ) to inform forward situation to driver is required. In this paper, we proposes method to detect forward vehicles and lane from sequential color images by basis process to inform forward situation to driver. We detect a front vehicle using that shadow area exists on part under vehicles and that road area occupies many parts even if road traffic is confused. We detect lane information using that lane part is white order by reverse characteristic of shadow area. This method shows good result in case road is confused or there is direction indication to road. HSV color space is selected for color modeling. This method uses saturation component and value component in HSV color model to detect vehicles and lane. It uses statistics features of HSV component and position to know whether detected vehicles area is vehicles such as vehicles previous frame. To verify the effects of the proposed method, we capture the road images with notebook and CCD camera for PC and Present the results such as processing time, accuracy and vehicles detection against the images.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 5, issue 2, 2002, Pages 191~197
In this paper, we propose a stream cipher using a cellular automata. For the security evaluation, we use the statistical tests suggested on the report of FIPS PUB 140-2 and additionally, we apply entropy test, linear complexity test and auto-correlation test which are popular statistical tests for the output sequences of stream ciphers.
An Effective Stop-and-Wait ARQ Scheme for Variable-Euor-Rate Channels
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 5, issue 2, 2002, Pages 198~205
Most studies of the ARQ schemes are conducted under the limited error rate of a fairly stationary channel. In nonstationary channel, error rates vary considerably and variety of error rate is wide. This paper proposes an effective Stop-and-Wait ARQ scheme which estimates the channel state in a simple manner based on the received acknowledgement messages, and can adaptively switch its operation mode in a channel where error rates vary slowly. It provides higher throughput than other comparable Stop-and-Wait ARQ schemes under a wide variety of error rate conditions.

A Study on Vibration Detection Method of Disc by Differential Amplifying Optical Power in Optical Disc Media
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 5, issue 2, 2002, Pages 215~221
In high speed optical disc devices, the vibration caused by unbalanced displacement leads the focus and tracking servo systems to be unstable, and increases the data search time. In this paper, we propose a new scheme to solve the unbalanced displacement problem. The proposed method detects the unbalanced rate by differential amplifying optical power received at photo diode and converts it into an electrical signal. controlling the speed of spindle motor, according to the detected unbalanced rate, makes it possible to improve the performance of tracking and data searching tasks. Also, we analyze the dynamic characteristics of focus and tracking servo systems in high speed mode and provide the firmware and hardware architecture that the proposed method can be installed as an add-on- module in the existing system.
