Implementation of an Integrated Product Expression Model using Oracle 8i
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 945~952
With the rapid growth of the B2B electronic commerce, digital catalogs for expressing product information effectively and exchanging it easily between companies become increasingly important. In this paper, we refer a product expression model to effectively integrate product information, and implement the model using XDK(XML Development Kit), which is given by Oracle 8i. We will first derive an XML DTD reflecting the model. We will then develop a system that stores and retrieves product information on/from Oracle 8i databases, which is written in XML, complying the XML DTD structure. Finally, We will give an experiment on the system.
Face Region Extraction using Object Unit Method
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 953~961
This paper suggests an efficient method to extract face regions from the com]]lex background. Input image is transformed to color space, where the data is independent of the brightness and several regions are extracted by skin color information. Each extracted region is processed as an object. Noise and overlapped objects ate removed. The candidate objects, faces are likely to be included in, are selected by checking the sizes of extracted objects, the XY ratio, and the distribution ratio of skin colors. In this processing, the objects without face are excluded out of candidate regions. The proposed method can be applied for successful extraction of face regions under various conditions such as face extraction with complex background, slanted faces, and face with accessories, etc.
Embedding DC Digital Watermarking in the DCT
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 962~967
In this paper, we proposed DC term embedding digital watermarking in the DCT domain. We computed a 8
8 block DCT The watermark signal is composed of a random number sequence of length 1000, which obeys normal distribution with zero mean and unit variance N(0,1). We embedded watermark signal in DC term for small watermark signal, the other watermark signal embedded in the largest AC coefficients. Experiment show that the invisibility and robust of the proposed method better than those of the conventional methods.
Lip Recognition using Lip Shape Model and Down Hill Search Method
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 968~976
In this paper, we propose a novel method for lip recognition. Lip model is built based on the concatenated gray level distribution model, and the recognition problem is simplified as the minimization problem of matching object function. The Down Hill Simplex Algorithm is used for the minimization with the proposed novel method for setting initial condition, which can refrain Iteration from converging to local minima. The proposed algorithm shows extracting lip shape from the test image where Active Shape Model fails.
An Image Enhancement Algorithm for Panoramic Infrared Images
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 977~984
In this paper, we propose an image enhancement algorithm for panoramic infrared image. This method divides a panoramic infrared image into disjoint subimages and performs the contrast stretch for subimages using statistical characteristics of each subimage. But these cause blocking artifact in boundary regions of neighboring subimages which different to the statistical characteristic. To remove blocking artifact, we perform the contrast stretch for subimage's boundary regions using statistical characteristics of horizontally neighboring subimages. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively improves their appearance to human viewers.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 985~990
This paper presents the representation and its shape analysis of face by features based on surface curvature estimation and proposed rotation vector of the human face. Curvature-based surface features are well suited to use for experimenting the 3D human face segmentation. Human surfaces are exactly extracted and computed with parameters and rotated by using active surface mesh model. The estimated features were tested and segmented by reconstructing surfaces from the face surface and analytically computing Gaussian (K) and mean (H) curvatures without threshold.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 991~999
In this paper, we proposed image acquisition techniques that can reflect anatomical airway information lot breath change by EBCT Also, we proposed new method to detect automatically boundary of inner airway for acquired slice images using this image acquisition technology. We confirmed that new method detects boundary of inner airway effectively through computer simulation that apply image data about each slice position of airway. And, we could see change for cross section area of inner airway by time change. Therefore, we think that proposed method can utilize on quantitative analysis in clinical field.
Lip Shape Model and Lip Localization using Shape Clustering
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1000~1007
In this paper, we propose an efficient method for locating lip. The lip shape is represented as a set of points based on Point Distribution Model. We use the Isodata clustering algorithm to find clusters for all training data. For each cluster, a lip shape model is calculated using principle component analysis. For all training data, a lip boundary model is calculated based on the pixel values around the lip boundary. To decide whether a recognition result is correct, we use a cost function based on the lip boundary model. Because of using different models according to the lip shapes, our method can localize correctly the flu far from the mean shape. The experiments have been performed for many images, and show correct recognition rate of 92%.
Adaptive Digital Watermarking with Perceptually Tuned Characteristic Based on Wavelet Transform
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1008~1014
In this paper, we propose the image retrieval method based on object regions using bidirectional round filter in the wavelet transform domain. A conventional method that includes unnecessary background information reduce retrieval efficiency, because of the extraction of feature vectors from the whole region of subband. On proposed method, it extracts accurate feature vectors and keep certainly retrieval efficiency in case of reduced feature vectors, because of the extraction of feature vectors from the only extracted object region. Furthermore, it improve retrieval efficiency by removing unnecessary background information. Consequently, the retrieval efficiency is improved with 2.5%∼5.5% values, which have a little chances to vary according to characteristics of image.
Design and Implementation of a Media Player That Playing Several Moving Pictures in Real Time
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1015~1024
With the improvement of the computer performance, the users demand for the multimedia player is getting higher, which will be the major force behind the wide distribution of the media player that allows several moving pictures to run simultaneously using multiple windows on the screen. Products that adopted the same method used for a single moving picture and yet support the several moving pictures simultaneously emerged; however, they are not immune from problems. In this paper, we propose method to solve the problems of blinking, play prioritization processor and semi-transparent Processor that occur when appling several moving pictures to the method used for a single moving picture and suggested the possible solutions. Taking it one step further, it focused on design and implementation of the media player that allows several moving pictures using overlapping and overlay technique by recognizing the biggest problem, which is that the above media play is not supported when playing several moving pictures simultaneously.

A Policy of Movement Support for Multimedia Multicast Service in Wireless Network
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1034~1045
In this paper, we study a multicast transport technique for multimedia services of mobile hosts in wireless network environments. To reduce packet loss during hand-off, we propose a Pre-join scheme in overlapped area and a Buffering scheme in crossover routers. To support seamless service in real time multimedia application, these scheme use an optimal path routing which was provided in remote subscription scheme and a prediction scheme of host movements which was considered overlapped area. To evaluate the peformance of our scheme, we compare Bi-direction tunneling of mobile If, Remote subscription, and MoM by using NS-2. As a result, our scheme shows better performance in network overhead, packet loss and bandwidth's use than other schemes.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1046~1053
Recently various new model of teaching-learning as web based education system has been proposed. The demand for the customized courseware which is required from the learners is increased, the needs of the efficient and automated education agents in the web-based instruction are recognized. But many education systems that had been studied recently did not service fluently the courses which learners had been wanting and could not provide the way for the learners to study the teaming weakness which is observed in the continuous feedback of the course. In this paper we propose a multi-agent system for course scheduling of learner-oriented using weakness analysis algorithm. First proposed system analyze learner's result of evaluation and calculates teaming accomplishment. From this accomplishment the multi-agent schedules the suitable course for the learner The learner achieves an active and complete learning from the repeated and suitable course.
Development of Gesture-allowed Electronic Ink Editor
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1054~1061
Electronic ink is multimedia data that have emerged from the development of pen-based computers such as PDAs whose major input device is a stylus pen. Recently with the development and supply of pen-based mobile computers, the necessity of data processing techniques of electronic ink has increased. Techniques to develop a gesture-allowed text editor in electronic ink domain were studied in this paper. Gesture and electronic ink data are a promising feature of pen-based user interface, but they have not yet been fully exploited. A new gesture recognition algorithm to identify pen gestures and a segmentation method for electronic ink to execute gesture commands were proposed. An electronic ink editor, called GesEdit was developed using proposed algorithms. The gesture recognition algorithm is based on eight features of input strokes. Convex hull and input time have been used to segment electronic ink data into GC(Gesture Components) unit. A variety of experiments by ten people showed that the average recognition rate reached 99.6% for nine gestures.
Analysis and Recognition of Behavior of Medaka in Response to Toxic Chemical Inputs by using Multi-Layer Perceptron
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1062~1070
In this paper, we observe one of the aquatic insect, fish(Medaka)'s behavior which reacts to giving toxic chemicals until lethal conditions using automatic tracking sl
stem. For the result, we define the Pattern A is a normal movement of fish and Pattern B is after giving the chemicals. In order to detect the movement of fish automatically, these patterns are selected for the training data of the artificial neural networks. The average recognition rates of the pattern B are remarkably increased after inputs of toxic chemical(diazinon) while the Pattern A is decreased distinctively. This study demonstrates that artificial neural networks are useful method for detecting presence of toxicoid in environment as for an alternative of in-situ behavioral monitoring tool.
Designing and Implementing Message Broker System based on SOAP
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1071~1078
SOAP is a protocol used for information exchange in distributed computing environment and SOAP defines mechanisms for message transferring between distributed system and remote procedure call/response process. This SOAP is able to be used independently on operating systems and program languages because it uses only a text-based XML for protocol. Therefor ebXML that is a standard for E-Commerce adopts SOAP for message exchange. In this paper, we developed Message Broker System based on SOAP. By this Message Broker System we can more easily exchange messages for B2B. Accordingly we can manage and integrate a lots of business partners.

A lot of expert systems have been developed in the area of medical diagnosis and prescription, but there has been relatively little effort to develop medical expert systems using domestic technologies. In this paper, a medical expert system for gastroenteritis is developed, which can be easily used on the Internet. This system is implemented using Java technologies and Jess, which is a Java expert system shell. Therefore. the system can be used independently from a specific platform on the Internet. In addition, facts and rules of a knowledge base in the system ate represented separately making the system updatable and expandable with ease.
Automatic Compiler Generator for Visual Languages using Semantic Actions based on Classes
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1088~1099
The syntax-directed translation using semantic actions is frequently used in construction of compiler for text programming languages. it is very useful for the language designers to develop compiler back-end using a syntax structure of a source programming language. Due to the lack of the integrated representation method for a parse tree node and modeling method of syntax structures, it is very hard to construct compiler using syntax-directed translation in visual languages. In this Paper, we propose a visual language compiler generation method for constructing a visual languages compiler automatically, using syntax-directed translation. Our method uses the Picture Layout Grammar as a underlying grammar formalism. This grammar allows our approach to generate parser efficiently u sing And-Or-Waiting Graph and encapsulating syntax definition as one unit. Unlike other systems, we suggest separating the specification and the generation of semantic actions. Because of this, it provides a very efficient method for modification.
Design and Implementation of Remote Procedure Call Resource Service System based on the XML Considering the Request Delegation between the Servers
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1100~1110
Design and implementation of remote procedure cail (RPC) resource service system based on the XML considering the request delegation between the servers are described for the resource application and efficient processing of distributed environment. For this purpose, the request information about several server, which would be used by client, is encoded into XML document based on XML-DOM and transferred to server. Server classifies the client requests using objects which can deal with the XMLL-DOM. For the request delegation between the servers, server saves the request result of client in XMLL-DOM structure without replying it immediately, and makes the client request delegated to another server in XML-DOM's request information. In addition, the resource repository are managed for resource transparency of distributed environment. As a result, resource application and processing efficiency are improved by reduction of response time caused by integration of RPC and XML-RPC services and request delegation between the servers. Extension of asynchronous and average blocking time of client were reduced and information of resource which can be used by client was offered.
Modified Spreading Activation Network for Intelligent Profile Construction in Research Agent System
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 6, issue 6, 2003, Pages 1111~1119
The research of science and engineering needs the latest information from internet resources. But it is a complex and repeated procedure to search and filter web documents from the huge Internet resources. In this paper, we propose the PREA system, which can organize the research paper databases and search World Wide Web documents that the user is interested in. It observes the usage of the local Paper databases and presented web documents and then constructs a profile intelligently. However, to make a profile, we used the modified spreading activation network(MSAN) so that the PREA can search and filter web documents by semantic meaning of user's interest in realtime. The system constructed in multi-agents manner that can cooperate together effectively. The results show the effectiveness of our system to search web documents compared with a commercial search engine.
