Kim Yeon-Seok ; Lee Kyong-Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1339~1353
< TABLE > tags in HTML documents are widely used for formatting layout of Web documents as well as for describing genuine tables with relational information. As a prerequisite for information extraction from the Web, this paper presents an efficient method for sophisticated table detection. The proposed method consists of two phases: preprocessing and attribute-value relations extraction. For the preprocessing where genuine or ungenuine tables are filtered out, appropriate rules are devised based on a careful examination of general characteristics of < TABLE > tags. The remaining is detected at the attribute-value relations extraction phase. Specifically, a value area is extracted and checked out whether there is a syntactic coherency Futhermore, the method looks for a semantic coherency between an attribute area and a value area of a table that may be inappropriate for the syntactic coherency checkup. Experimental results with 11,477 < TABLE > tags from 1,393 HTML documents show at the method has performed better compared with previous works, resulting in a precision of 97.54% and a recall of 99.22% in average.
Extracting Logical Structure from Web Documents

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1354~1369
This paper presents a logical structure analysis method which transforms Web documents into XML ones. The proposed method consists of three phases: visual grouping, element identification, and logical grouping. To produce a logical structure more accurately, the proposed method defines a document model that is able to describe logical structure information of topic-specific document class. Since the proposed method is based on a visual structure from the visual grouping phase as well as a document model that describes logical structure information of a document type, it supports sophisticated structure analysis. Experimental results with HTML documents from the Web show that the method has performed logical structure analysis successfully compared with previous works. Particularly, the method generates XML documents as the result of structure analysis, so that it enhances the reusability of documents.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1370~1377
The still image and video of the same scene taken under various condition show different color, and the most important factor of capture condition is scene illuminant. The average color of contents is determined along the color temperature of scene illuminant, the method for conversion of scene illuminant chromaticity is needed. In this paper, the method for converting the scene illuminant chromaticity from arbitrary correlated color temperature to another arbitrary one is proposed. Conventional method only defines several set of color temperature conversion that can be evaluated as representative ones. The proposed method has the merit of calculating the conversion function directly from arbitrary color temperature to another one.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1378~1388
This paper proposes method to improve the image quality degradation that show when reconstructing compressed images at low bit rate by using wavelet transform. The image quality distortion is blocking artifacts and noise in DCT's compression but blocking artifacts of wavelet transform does not appear and ringing artifacts was appeared near the edge. This proposed technique is classified to part which is ringing artifacts of the edge vicinity appears which is not, apply adaptive filter to each region improved image. A edge region which is harsh to the eye is applied by Canny mask and finding strong edge region, search the neighborhood classify the flat region and the texture region, and apply to each region suitable filter, As experiment result, PSNR value of method that is proposed in that low bit rate compression image that ringing artifact appears became low about 0.05db, but 0.023db degree rose strong edge region and nat region's image. Also, showed picture quality improved more than ringing artifacts in nat region when see from subjective viewpoint of human.

Modern computer networks are growing wider, more complicated. Therefore, we have needed so much the function of the performance management to, by making this kind of the network performance best fitted, guarantee Quality of Service which the users require. Currently, Netflow, RMON and Packet Capture methods are used to analyze Traffic, the principal function of the performance management, but they are not the fundamental solution from the integrated point of view. In this paper, we suggest the integrated performance management architecture and, by means of it, design and implement the performance man-agement system so that we can manage the performance of multi-technology and multi-vender devices.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1400~1411
Recently, explosion of internet user requires fundamental changes on the architecture of Web service system, from single server system to clustered server system, in parallel with the effort for improving the scalability of the single internet server system. But current cluster-based server systems are dedicated to the single application, for example, One-IP server system. One-IP server system has a clustered computing node with the same function and tries to distribute each request based on the If to the clustered node evenly. In this paper, we implemented the more useful application service platform. It works on shared clustered server(back-end server) with an application server(front-end server) for a particular service. An application server provides a particular service at a low load by itself, but as the load increases, it reconfigures itself with one or more available server from the shared cluster and distributes the load on selected server evenly We used PVM for an effective management of the clustered server. We found the implemented application service platform provides more stable and scalable operation characteristics and has remarkable performance improvement on the dynamic load changes.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1421~1435
When various work was given from user, the existing mobile agent model migrated from node to node and process the work at the point that much traffics according to passive routing schedule are happened, until it makes service the work result, time cost of round work process for the distributed nodes are increased. Therefore, the existing agent systems need migration method to solve the problems of agent size increment or a lack of interoperability among agent systems. To solve these problems in this thesis, we design and implement an CORBA-based Mobile Agent Model(CMAM) for the efficient work process into the distributed nodes, when the mobile agents are migrated among the nodes, using an optimal path search by sensing of network traffic.
A Method of Selecting Candidate Core for Shared-Based Tree Multicast Routing Protocol
Hwang Soon-Hwan ; Youn Sung-Dae ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1436~1442
A shared-based tree established by the Core Based Tree multicast routing protocol (CBT), the Protocol Independent Multicast Sparse-Mode(PIM-SM), or the Core-Manager based Multicast Routing(CMMR) is rooted at a center node called core or Rendezvous Point(RP). The routes from the core (or RP) to the members of the multicast group are shortest paths. The costs of the trees constructed based on the core and the packet delays are dependent on the location of the core. The location of the core may affect the cost and performance of the shared-based tree. In this paper, we propose three methods for selecting the set of candidate cores. The three proposed methods, namely, k-minimum average cost, k-maximum degree, k-maximum weight are compared with a method which select the candidate cores randomly. Three performance measures, namely, tree cost, mean packet delay, and maximum packet delay are considered. Our simulation results show that the three proposed methods produce lower tree cost, significantly lower mean packet delay and maximum packet delay than the method which selects the candidate cores randomly.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1443~1451
In this paper we propose a new packet scheduling mechanism to improve TCP throughput and fairness with estimated link state information in wireless networks, in which mobile hosts are receivers. Since a priori estimated link state information is used in this proposed mechanism, the entire packet transmission time can be reduced. In other words, packets scheduling procedure is performed before packets are transmitted using estimated link state. The proposed mechanism also has an temporary FIFO queue to store packets which are on the head of queue and can not be transmitted due to bad link state. Using this temporary FIFO queue, HOL(Head of Line) problem of FIFO queue can be resolved.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1452~1463
The requirement of automatic video summary is increasing as bi-directional broadcasting contents and various user requests and preferences for the bi -directional broadcast environment are increasing. Automatic video summary is needed for an efficient management and usage of many contents in service provider as well. In this paper, we propose a method to generate a content-based summary of linguistic educational videos automatically. First, shot-boundaries and keyframes are generated from linguistic educational video and then multiple(low-level) visual features are extracted. Next, the semantic parts (Explanation part, Dialog part, Text-based part) of the linguistic educational video are generated using extracted visual features. Lastly the XMI- document describing summary information is made based on HieraTchical Summary architecture oi MPEG-7 MDS (Multimedia I)escription Scheme). Experimental results show that our proposed algorithm provides reasonable performance for automatic summary of linguistic educational videos. We verified that the proposed method is useful ior video summary system to provide various services as well as management of educational contents.

Realtime Facial Expression Control of 3D Avatar by PCA Projection of Motion Data
Kim Sung-Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1478~1484
This paper presents a method that controls facial expression in realtime of 3D avatar by having the user select a sequence of facial expressions in the space of facial expressions. The space of expression is created from about 2400 frames of facial expressions. To represent the state of each expression, we use the distance matrix that represents the distances between pairs of feature points on the face. The set of distance matrices is used as the space of expressions. Facial expression of 3D avatar is controled in real time as the user navigates the space. To help this process, we visualized the space of expressions in 2D space by using the Principal Component Analysis(PCA) projection. To see how effective this system is, we had users control facial expressions of 3D avatar by using the system. This paper evaluates the results.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 10, 2004, Pages 1485~1495
We propose the representation of a improved dynamic object-oriented program dependence graph so as to process the slicing of object-oriented programs that is composed of related programs in order to process certain jobs. We also propose an efficient slicing algorithm using the relations of relative tables in order to compute dynamic slices of object-oriented programs. We programmed the algorithm by using fortran and Visual C++. The procedure that computes the dynamic object-oriented program slices using the improved dynamic object-oriented program dependence graph(IDOPDC) is divided into four steps. Consequently, the efficiency of the proposed improved dynamic object-oriented program dependence graph(IDOPDG) technique is also compared with the dependence graph techniques discussed previously. As a result, this certifies that an improved dynamic object-oriented program dependence graph is more efficient in comparison with the traditional dynamic object-oriented program dependence graph(DOPDG).
