Automatic Leather Quality Inspection and Grading System by Leather Texture Analysis
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 451~458
A leather quality inspection by naked eyes has known as unreliable because of its biological characteristics like accumulated fatigue caused from an optical illusion and biological phenomenon. Therefore it is necessary to automate the leather quality inspection by computer vision technique. In this paper, we present automatic leather qua1ity classification system get information from leather surface. Leather is usually graded by its information such as texture density, types and distribution of defects. The presented algorithm explain how we analyze leather information like texture density and defects from the gray-level images obtained by digital camera. The density data is computed by its ratio of distribution area, width, and height of Fourier spectrum magnitude. And the defect information of leather surface can be obtained by histogram distribution of pixels which is Windowed from preprocessed images. The information for entire leather could be a standard for grading leather quality. The proposed leather inspection system using machine vision can also be applied to another field to substitute human eye inspection.
The Effective Parallel Processing Method for an Enhanced Digital Image of Skeleton Line
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 459~466
In this paper, an effective skeleton method is proposed in order to obtain an enhanced digital image of skeleton line. The binary image using the threshold values is applied in the preprocessing stage and then the modified parallel processing method is applied to obtain the improved image of skeleton line. The existing skeleton methods are Rutovitz, Steiabelli and other five skeleton methods. In the digital process of skeleton line, the major problem caused by these methods is elongated lines and noise branches of the processed image. In this study, however, such noises are deleted first by the modified parallel processing step of the proposed method. Then a pixel is compared to its eight neighbor pixels. if its neighbor pixels are in one of the eight conditions, the central pixel is deleted. As a result, the quality of the skeleton is better then those produced by the existing skeleton methods.
Caption Region Extraction of Sports Video Using Multiple Frame Merge
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 467~473
Caption in video plays an important role that delivers video content. Existing caption region extraction methods are difficult to extract caption region from background because they are sensitive to noise. This paper proposes the method to extract caption region in sports video using multiple frame merge and MBR(Minimum Bounding Rectangles). As preprocessing, adaptive threshold can be extracted using contrast stretching and Othu Method. Caption frame interval is extracted by multiple frame merge and caption region is efficiently extracted by median filtering, morphological dilation, region labeling, candidate character region filtering, and MBR extraction.
Face Recognition Based on Weighted Hausdorff Distance for Profile Image
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 474~483
In this paper, we present a new Practical implementation of a person verification system using the profile of 3-dimensional(3D) face images based on weighted Hausdorff distance(WHD) used depth information. The approach works on finding the nose tip have protrusion shape on the face using iterative selection method to use a fiducial feint and extract the profile image from vertical 3D data for the nose tip. Hausdorff distance(HD) is one of usually used measures for object matching. This works analyze the conventional HD and WHD, which the weighted factor is depth information. The Ll measure for comparing two feature vectors were used, because it is simple and robust. In the experimental results, the WHD method achieves recognition rate of 94.3% when the ranked threshold is 5.
An Empirical Study for Identifying Players′ Loyalty factors in Online Games
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 484~495
In this paper appears that in this extremely attractive and growing services segment, academics, as well as practitioners, would benefit from investigating the relationships among the players' loyalty, word of mouth and flow, and the impacts of several other key game-related constructs on consumer behavioral intentions. A conceptual framework is proposed and a structural equation model is developed. This paper develops the exploratory LISREL model for identifying the factors affecting the players' loyalty for some specific brand of online games. The concept of flow, feedback, challenge, etc, are all introduced into the model, as the independent variables affecting the loyalty directly and indirectly. Statistical results show that depending upon the types of games, the configuration of structural equation model is a little different from each other, but overall results are very much intuitive in that challenge positively enforces flow, and flow strengthens loyalty. Other interesting results concerning game development strategy are also provided. It is hoped that this result might provide the useful guidelines for developing the successful online game contents. With a better understanding of the players' behavioral intentions, online game developers should be able to make adjustments in their development and marketing plans, providing them with a sustainable advantage over their competition.
EPOB Based Transcode Scheduling Method of a Multimedia Presentation for Mobile Terminals in a Mobile Internet
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 496~504
This paper preposes a various policies and experiment results to select streams in a presentation to be transcoded for mobileterminals after distinguishing the characteristics of streams in the presentation. This applies to the presentation composed of various data streams on a PC server. The rationale of the research is that the stream selection polices for transcoding enhances the speed of presentation in mobile terminals considerably faster than in the case when every stream has to be transcoded. Thus, the thesis suggests a stream selection polices for transcoding based on EPOB (End Point of Over Bandwidth) and aims to lower the requiring bandwidth of the presentation to the network bandwidth as well as to minimize early delay time for the presentation to be played in mobile terminals.

An Implementation of Bandwidth Broker Based on COPS for Resource Management in Diffserv Network
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 518~531
This paper discusses a testbed architecture for implementing scalable service differentiation in the Internet. The differentiated services (DiffServ) testbed architecture is based on a model in which a bandwidth broker (BB) can control network resources, and the ALTQ can reserve resources in a router to guarantee a Quality of Service (QoS) for incoming traffic to the testbed. The reservation and releasemessage for the ALTQ is contingent upon a decision message in the BE. The BB has all the information in advance, which is required for a decision message, in the form of PIB. A signaling protocol between the BB and the routers is the COPS protocol proposed at the IETF. In terms of service differentiation, a user should make an SLA in advance, and reserve required bandwidth through an RAR procedure. The SLA and RAR message between a user and the BB has implemented with the COPS extension which was used between a router and the BB. We evaluates the service differentiation for the video streaming in that the EF class traffic shows superb performance than the BE class traffic where is a network congestion. We also present the differentiated service showing a better packet receiving rate, low packet loss, and low delay for the EF class video service.
Aria Online: On-Line Game Using Dream3D
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 532~541
Computer game has become the core part of multimedia area in our knowledge and information based society Recently, computer game has been evolving into on-line 3D games which give players more realism from the existing on-line 2D games. We are competitive in developing on-line 2D games. However, we have difficulties in maintaining the competitive edge in the area of 3D game technologies owing to the limited technologies. In this paper, we design and develop Aria Online, an on-line 3D prototype game using Dream3D. The on-line game supports simultaneous connections of multi -users on each game server and full flexibility on user's view.
The Survey for the Effectiveness of Cyber Lecture′s Main Components
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 542~549
As a promising alternative for the traditional educational system, the cyber education is in the spotlight of both educators and computer scientists. There are many advantages of online education to the students and to the institution such as easy and random accessibility, low cost, saving spaces in the institutions, and so on. or a successful online education, some important factors would be considered in constructing cyber lectures. The purposes of this paper are to investigate students'viewpoints, called factors, of the cyber class and analyze these factors to be an effective cyber class. Once factors are identified, we trace the change of the student assessments on the identified factors during the class. Using these factors, we also examine if there are any differences on the assessment of the cyber class according to student background, such as gender. major, and class.
Congestion Control Method of Area of Interest in Distributed Virtual Environment
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 550~558
Previous researches on scalability problem of distributed virtual environment (DVE) have been mainly focused on spatial partitioning of area of interest (AOI). Congestion phenomena by avatar groups in AOI have been neglected relatively However, AOI congestion is highly related to scalability of DVE because it exhausts system resources such as network bandwidth and rendering time, and could be a bar to perform collaboration among participants. In this paper, this will be defined as the problem that must be solved for the realization of the scalable DVE, and a model will be proposed to measure and control congestion situation in AOI. The purposes of the proposed model are to prevent high density of participants in AOI, and to protect stable collaboration in DVE. For evaluation of the performance it is compared with a previous method by defining the resource cost model which is dynamically activated to AOI congestion.
Interval-Valued Fuzzy Set Backward Reasoning Using Fuzzy Petri Nets
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 559~566
In general, the certainty factors of the fuzzy production rules and the certainty factors of fuzzy propositions appearing in the rules are represented by real values between zero and one. If it can allow the certainty factors of the fuzzy production rules and the certainty factors of fuzzy propositions to be represented by interval -valued fuzzy sets, then it can allow the reasoning of rule-based systems to perform fuzzy reasoning in more flexible manner. This paper presents fuzzy Petri nets and proposes an interval-valued fuzzy backward reasoning algorithm for rule-based systems based on fuzzy Petri nets Fuzzy Petri nets model the fuzzy production rules in the knowledge base of a rule-based system, where the certainty factors of the fuzzy propositions appearing in the fuzzy production rules and the certainty factors of the rules are represented by interval-valued fuzzy sets. The algorithm we proposed generates the backward reasoning path from the goal node to the initial nodes and then evaluates the certainty factor of the goal node. The proposed interval-valued fuzzy backward reasoning algorithm can allow the rule-based systems to perform fuzzy backward reasoning in a more flexible and human-like manner.
A Study on a Leakage Sensing Pipe and Monitoring System Using TDR in GIS
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 567~578
GIS technique enhanced a space data manipulation ability and we are offering a geographic information service through various analysis. The quantity used of the water was increased in such situation according to a population increase and a city concentration phenomenon. But, to secure clear water are difficult, owing to the water shortage phenomenon, seepage and the quality of water change for worse. We decide the seepage and the system to retrieve the seepage location using GIS in order to reduce vast loss from the seepage. In this paper we proposed Leakage Sensing System using TDR technology in GIS, constructed a GIS database and pilot system to prove the validity, and simulated it using TDR in GIS.
Development of an Arc Segmentation Technique Based on Line Segment Expansion from Simple Drawing
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 579~591
This paper presents a new arc segmentation method which extracts curves from simple drawing consisted of straight lines and curves and segments them into circular arcs. First, it finds center points and finds line segments and curve segments by tracing connected center points. Next, it expands the segment by searching neighbor segment at the two endpoints. Next, it removes straight lines and segments the extracted curves into circular arcs by using the recursive subdivision method. The proposed method has been compared with previous vectorization software and vector based arc segmentation method. Experimental results show that the proposed method produces more correct results for the curves which contain intersection with other lines or curves.
A Recommendation System Based on Customer Preference Analysis and Filter Management
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 4, 2004, Pages 592~600
A recommendation system, which is an application area of e-CRM in e-commerce environment, provides individualized goods recommendation service that meets the demand of individual users. In general, existing recommendation systems require extensive historic user information in application domains. However, the method of recommendation based on static historic user information needs to respond flexibly to users'demand that changes rapidly and sensitively over time and in domains including a variety of users. In addition, it is difficult to recommend for new users who are not fall into any of existing domains. To overcome such limitations and provide flexible recommendation service, this study designed and implemented CPAR (Customer Preference Analysis Recommender) system that supports customer preference analysis and filter management. The filtering management capacity of the present system eases the necessity of extensive information about new users. In addition, CPAR system was implemented in XML-based wireless Internet environment for recommendation service independent from platforms and not limited by time and place.
