A Schema Matching Algorithm for an Automated Transformation of XML Documents
Lee Jun-Seung ; Lee Kyong-Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1195~1207
Schema matching is prerequisite to an automated transformation of XML documents. Because previous works about schema matching compute all semantically-possible matchings, they produce many-to-many matching relationships. Such imprecise matchings are inappropriate for an automated transformation of XML documents. This paper presents an efficient schema matching algorithm that computes precise one-to-one matchings between two schemas. The proposed algorithm consists of two steps: preliminary matching relationships between leaf nodes in the two schemas are computed and one-to-one matchings are finally extracted based on a proposed path similarity. Specifically, for a sophisticated schema matching, the proposed algorithm is based on a domain ontology as well as a lexical database that includes abbreviations and synonyms. Experimental results with real schemas from an e-commerce field show that the proposed method is superior to previous works, resulting in an accuracy of 97% in average.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1208~1218
Nowadays the information exchange based on XML such as B2B electronic commerce is spreading. Therefore a systematic and stable management mechanism for storing the exchanged information is needed. For this goal there are many research activities for centering on relational databases the connection between XML application and databases. But when XML data which has hierarchical structure is stored as relational databases which are expressed as relational information, a set of 2-dimensional table, there is a limitation essentially. Accordingly the modeling methodology for storing such structured information in the form of object-relational databases is needed. In order to build good quality application systems, modeling is an important first step. In 1997, the OMG adopted the UML as its standard modeling language. Since industry has warmly embraced UML, its popularity should become more important in the future. So a design methodology based on UML is needed to develop efficient XML applications. In this paper, we propose a unified design methodology for XML applications based on object-relational database using UML. To reach these goals, first we propose a systematic three step methodology to extract UML, second we introduce a XML modeling methodology to design W3C XML schema using UML and third we propose a data modeling methodology for object-relational database schema to store exchanging XML data efficiently.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1219~1232
Recently, the web sites, such as e-business sites and shopping mall sites, deal with lots of catalog image information and contents. As a result, it is required to support semantic-based image retrieval efficiently on such image data. This paper presents a semantic-based image retrieval system, which adopts XML and Fuzzy technology. To support semantic-based retrieval on product catalog images containing multiple objects, we use a multi-level metadata structure which represents the product information and semantics of image data. To enable semantic-based retrieval on such image data, we design a XML database for storing the proposed metadata and study how to apply fuzzy data. This paper proposes a system, generate the fuzzy data automatically to use the image metadata, that can support semantic-based image retrieval by utilizing the generating fuzzy data. Therefore, it will contribute in improving the retrieval correctness and the user's satisfaction on semantic-based e-catalog image retrieval.

Lee See-Woo ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1233~1239
In a speech coding system using excitation source of voiced and unvoiced, it would be involved a distortion of speech qualify in case coexist with a voiced and an unvoiced consonants in a frame. This paper present a new multi-pulse coding method by using V/S/TSIUVC switching, individual pitch pulses and TSIUVC approximation-synthesis method in order to restrict a distortion of speech quality. The TSIUVC is extracted by using the zero crossing rate and individual pitch pulse. And the TSIUVC extraction rate was 91% for female voice and 96.2% for male voice respectively. The important thing is that the frequency information of 0.347kHz below and 2.813kHz above can be made with high quality synthesis waveform within TSIUVC. I evaluate the MPC use V/UV and the FBD-MPC use V/S/TSIUVC. As a result, I knew that synthesis speech of the FBD-MPC was better in speech quality than synthesis speech of the MPC.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1246~1254
This paper presents a image coding method that is well adaptive to close-range video transmission because of its low titrate and simple coding procedure. At first, it reduces temporal redundancies by performing image DPCM between previous frame and current frame, and makes wavelet transformed image of this difference image. Then, the coefficients are quantized selectively by using the coefficient values of base level and mid-frequency level because inter-level redundancies are widely exists in multi-resolution images. Finally quantized coefficients are made iron the function that implies the target bitrate, the average coefficient energy, and the value of the level. The proposed method shows the effective Performance in the experiments using the continuous motion images and transition images.
A Pattern Matching Algorithm Using Correlation in Fourier Domain
Lee Choong Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1255~1262
This paper proposes a pattern matching algorithm which is useful for pattern matching and verification of images which includes noises. This algorithm is based on the feature that the signal energy of image is concentrated in a small frequency region in Fourier domain. The proposed method extracts the small parts around origins and compares the regions. Specifically, the parts around origins are extracted and subtracted, and finally experimental threshold is adopted for pattern matching. In particular, the proposed algorithm is useful for the images which includes noises because the noises are distributed in the high frequency region generally, and the method extracts the low frequency region only. Experimental result shows the method recognize ten standard images and three images includes various noises. This method shows the performance which is equal to or better than that of Phase Only Correlation in some cases.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1263~1272
In this paper, we present a novel video fingerprinting implementation method to identify the source of illegal copies. The video fingerprinting is achieved by the insertion of uniform distributed random number is made by seller and buyer's identification key-in the video wavelet coefficients by their temporal wavelet transform. The proposed fingerprinting is able to detect unique fingerprint of video contents even if they have been distorted by collusion attacks and MPEG2 compression. Especially, we use characteristics of the temporal wavelet transform to assign user's embedding area. Experimental results show the traceability of unauthorized distribution of video contents and its robustness to various collusion attacks and MPEG2 compression.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1273~1281
There have been a number of researches on real-time packet scheduling based on EDF algorithm to support end-to-end delay bound guarantees for real-time traffic transmission. However, EDF-based packet scheduler could not guarantee the real-time requirements of real-time traffic if there exist non-real-time traffic. In this paper, we propose a new admission control algorithm and packet scheduling scheme considering non-real-time traffic in the real -time packet scheduler based on EDF policy. Proposed admission control algorithm has pseudo-polynomial time complexity, but we show through simulation that it can be used with little run-time overhead.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1282~1293
This paper proposes an asymmetric watermarking system using Public Key Infrastructure. The distinguishing characteristic of the proposed method connects between the two different techniques, cryptography technique and watermarking technique, by using the authentication technique. The connection between the two techniques are established based on the special qualities of each technique. Watermarks that are inserted into the digital contents consist of a digital signature described as an encrypted copyright information with the private key of a distributor or a copyright holder, and an authentication code. In the situation where the ownership of the digital contents has to be decided, authentication technique examines the data integrity of the digital contents based on an authentication and decides the ownership of the digital contents by examining whether it satisfies or not satisfies the integrity test. The formal case uses decryption method which compares the user defined copyright information, and the decrypted copyright information extracted from the watermark in the digital contents that are decrypted by distributors' public key The latter case determines the ownership by comparing the similarity between encrypted copyright information separated from the watermark that are extracted from the digital contents, and the user defined encrypted copyright information that are separated from the watermark The proposed method provides protection from the assault which attempts to identify or erase the encoding key.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1294~1303
This paper proposes new block fragile watermarking for image authentication and integrity by using the existing pixel-based scheme and block-based scheme. The proposed scheme is performed as fellows. First, we choose LUT(Look Up Table) from each pixel of original image and information of the corresponding block. Next, we insert a watermark, modifying original image with values to compare binary original image with the watermark to be embedded. As a result, we provide the means to overcome some weakness of the existing scheme. Binary logo as watermark can be detected from watermarked image and altered location can also be detected by the unit of pixel or that of block in our scheme.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1304~1311
SMIL supports synchronization and nice screen form environments among various multimedia data. Thus it is utilized widely in the fields of internet virtual lecture, internet broadcasting, and so on. Those kinds of system which can be applied flexibly in spite of the change of environments are required continuously with important issue, and depending upon the trends the function of SMIL is upgraded step by step. In this paper main function of SMIL is analyzed and modeled depending upon object oriented methodology. Also I propose some class model which is inspired iron service combinator. Suggested class model can be tuned by user easily if he wants to optimize system environments.
A Relevance Feedback Method Using Threshold Value and Pre-Fetching
Park Min-Su ; Hwang Byung-Yeon ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1312~1320
Recently, even if a lot of visual feature representations have been studied and systems have been built, there is a limit to existing content-based image retrieval mechanism in its availability. One of the limits is the gap between a user's high-level concepts and a system's low-level features. And human beings' subjectivity in perceiving similarity is excluded. Therefore, correct visual information delivery and a method that can retrieve the data efficiently are required. Relevance feedback can increase the efficiency of image retrieval because it responds of a user's information needs in multimedia retrieval. This paper proposes an efficient CBIR introducing positive and negative relevance feedback with threshold value and pre-fetching to improve the performance of conventional relevance feedback mechanisms. With this Proposed feedback strategy, we implement an image retrieval system that improves the conventional retrieval system.
An Image-Based Annotation for DICOM Standard Image
Jang Seok-Hwan ; Kim Whoi-Yul ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1321~1328
In this article, we present a new DICOM object able to create image-based annotations in DICOM image. Since the proposed image-based annotation uses images themselves of annotation, various types like character, sketch, and scanning image, etc., can be imported into annotation easily. The proposed annotation is inserted into DICOM image directly but they do not influence original DICOM image quality by using independent data channel. The proposed annotation is expected to be very useful to medium and small clinics that cannot afford picture archiving and communication systems or electronic medical record.
A Design of XML-Based Distributed MDR Retrieval System for Data Preparation
Ko Sucbum ; Youn Sungdae ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 7, issue 9, 2004, Pages 1329~1338
The purpose of data mining is to extract multi-dimensional information from a large database. The only information that we can extract from a large database is the column name, data type or simple comments included in the columns of database tables. With such unstructured and scarce information, it is very difficult and time taking to collect and to cleanse data by analyzing the purpose, characteristic and schema of the column during the data preparation step. In order to solve this problem, we propose solutions for reducing the time spent data preparation step in a relational database environment in this paper. That is, we propose useful elements to be considered during the data preparation step and then these elements are organized to constitute MDR(Metadata Registry) which is becoming the international standard of ISO/IEC : ll179. Finally, we propose a XML-based distributed MDR retrieval system that is convertible among heterogeneous systems and heterogeneous DBMSS.
