Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 587~595
The vision for MPEG-21 is to define a multimedia framework to enable transparent and augmented use of multimedia resources across a wide range of networks and devices used by different communities MPEG-21 Event Reporting is required within the MPEG-21 Multimedia Framework in order to provide a standardized means for sharing information about Events amongst Peers and Users. There are several Time used in MPEG-21 Event Reporting. In this paper, we analyze and categorize various kinds of Time used in Event Reporting. And we define ERTimeType to be applied for every. Time used in Event Reporting and implement it by XML to support interoperability of standard. The ERTimeType structure we defined is established its objectivity as it is selected to 'ISO/IEC 21000-Part IS: Event Reporting WD 2.0'

Kim Myung Sook ; Kong Yong-Hae ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 596~605
Conventional XML query methods such as simple keyword match or structural query expansion are not sufficient to catch the underlying information in the documents. Moreover, these methods inefficiently try to query all the documents. This paper proposes document tittering and query expansion methods that are based on ontology. Using ontology, we construct a universal DTD that can filter off unnecessary documents. Then, query expansion method is developed through the analysis of concept hierarchy and association among concepts. The proposed methods are applied on variety of sample XML documents to test the effectiveness.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 606~617
There have been many research efforts which find efficiently all occurrences of the structural relationships between the nodes in the XML document tree for processing a XML query. Most of them use the region numbering which is based on positions of the nodes. Hut The position-based node numbering schemes require update of many node numbers in the XML document li the XML nodes are inserted frequently in the same position. In this paper, we propose ENN(extensible node numbering) scheme using the bucket number which is represented with the variable-length string for decreasing the number of the node numbers which is updated. We also present an performance analysis by comparing ENN method with TP(extended preorder) method.
Design & Implementation of a Motion Capture Database Based on Motion Ontologies
Chung Hyun-Sook ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 618~632
A framework for semantic annotation oi human motion sequences is proposed in this paper. Motion capture technology is widely used for manuiacturing animation since it produces high qualify character motion similar to the actual motion of the human body. However, motion capture has a significant weakness due to the lack of an industry wide standard for archiving and retrieving motion capture data. It is difficult for animators to retrieve the desired motion sequences from motion capture files as there is no semantic annotation on already captured motion data. Our goal is to improve the reusability of motion capture data. To archive our goal first, we propose a standard format for integrating different motion capture file formals. Our standard format is called MCML (Motion Capture Markup Language). It is a markup language based on XML (extensible Markup Language). The purpose of MCML is not only to facilitate the conversion or integration of different formats, but also to allow for greater reusability of motion capture data, through the construction of a motion database storing the MCML documents Second, we define motion ontologies that are used to annotate and semantically organize human motion sequences. This ontology-based approach provides the means for discovering and exploiting the information and knowledge surrounding motion capture data
Adaptive face Region Extraction Based on Skin Color Information and Projection
Lim Ju-Hyuk ; Bae Sung-Ho ; Song Kun-Woen ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 633~640
In this paper, we propose an adaptive face region extraction algorithm based on skin color information. It consists oi the extraction of face candidate region and projection step. In the step of face candidate region extraction, we extract the pixels which are regarded as the candidate skin color pixels by using the given range. Then, the ratio between the total pixels and the extracted pixels is calculated. According to the ratio, we adaptively decide the range of the skin color and extract face candidate region. In the projection step, we project the extracted face candidate region into vertical direction to estimate the width of the face. Then the redundant parts are efficiently removed by using the estimated face width. And the extracted face width information is used at the horizontal projection step to extract the height of the face. From the experiment results for the various images, the proposed algorithm shows more accurate results than the conventional algorithm.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 641~650
In this parer, curve stopping function based on the CT number of lung parenchyma from CT lung images is proposed to detect lung region in replacement of conventional edge indication function in geodesic active contour model. We showed that the proposed method was able to detect lung region more effectively than conventional method by applying three kinds of measurement numerically. And, we verified the effectiveness of proposed method visually by observing the detection Procedure on actual CT images. Because lung parenchyma region could be precisely detected from actual EBCT (electron beam computer tomography) lung images, we were sure that the Proposed method could aid to early diagnosis of lung disease and local abnormality of function.

Park Sung-Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 651~659
For segmentation of constrained and handwritten Hangul, a new method, which has been not introduced, was proposed and implemented to use virtual network search system in the space between characters. The proposed system was designed to be used in all cases in unconstrained handwritten Hangul by various writers and to make a number of curved segmentation path using a virtual network to the space between characters. The proposed system prevented Process from generating a path in a wrong position by changing search window upon target block within a search process. From the experimental results, the proposed virtual network search system showed segmentation accuracy of
from 800 word set including touched and overlapped characters collected from various writers.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 660~669
In this paper 10Mbps master-slave based PLC modems are tested for measuring and analyzing both network and application level performances in the general buildings. The devices under test consist of one master PLC modem and three slave modems. The selected parameters for inspecting the performances are throughput, latency and frame loss rate from the RFC 2544, and one-to-many and many-to-one throughput from the RFC 2285. The results of the performance test show that the PLC modems have Performed better in data transmission when the frame size is increased and the transmission speed is decreased. It is expected that these results will be useful to analyze the effect of noise sources when compared to the performance test under the noiseless environments.

Kim Kwang-Baek ; Oh Am-Suk ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 700~706
The immigration control system authorizes the immigration of travelers by means of passport inspections such as the judgment of forged passports, the search for a wanted criminal or a person disqualified for immigration, etc. The judgment of forged passports plays an important role in the immigration control system. Therefore, as the pre-phase for the judgment of forged passports, this paper proposed a novel method for the recognition of passport using ART2-based RBF network. The proposed method extracts the area of code and individual codes by applying the Sobel masking, the smearing and the contour tracking algorithm in turn to the passport image. This paper proposed the RBF network that applies the ART2 algorithm to the middle layer, and applied the enhanced RBF network to the recognition of individual codes. The results of the experiments for performance evaluation on the real passport images showed that the proposed method has the better performance compared with other approaches.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 707~741
In the multimedia streaming technology, the unicast method require additional cost by an increase traffic according to increase a number of users. The multicast method can solve this problem, but it don't have connection and control information of clients. Now, the most routers support only unicast. Also it has a problem with an exchange of service in other ISP. This paper proposes traffic agent system which is applied unicast and P2P(Peer to Peer) for distance video teaming to overcome this problem. The proposed system decrease the traffic of stream server by control agent, and cut down expenses of network. This system is tested under the distance video leaning using JMF and application software

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 715~720
In a software development process, it is necessary to have a method which verifies and satisfies users' requirements in their point of view. This allows the system developer to design a high qualify software system and have it developed and used in an effective way since users' requirements have well been shown through it. In this paper, we propose the RV-UI model system that can verify users' requirements a step ahead of system implementation step. This RV-UI model system has standardized user interface which is in practical use into functional model for each process and it is designed to satisfy users' requirements and manage configuration of them through the interface which has the Kano model.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 5, 2005, Pages 721~728
A virtual machine is a conceptual computer with a logical system configuration, made of software unlike physical systems made of hardware. Virtual machine technology for embedded systems is a requisite software technology for download solutions such as mobile devices, digital TVs, etc. At present, a research of virtual machines for embedded systems named EVM(Embedded Virtual Machine) is in progress. As a part of the research, we define the EFF(Executable File Format) as a file format for embedded systems. We also prove completeness of EFF by structurally mapping class file widely used to EFF.
