Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1153~1162
In this paper, we developed an XML Document Data Synchronization System for java(XDS4j) based on both SyncML(Synchronization Markup Language) framework Sync4j and embedded database system Berkeley DB XML. Because most existing data synchronization systems are based on file systems, data synchronization times at Fast Sync in those systems are very delayed. In the XDS4j, however, XML documents data produced at SyncML client and SyncML server are managed by embedded database system, and also synchronization time at Fast Sync is reduced because only partial elements are accessed by applying to XPath.

The Web is the largest distributed information space but, the individual's capacity to read and digest contents is essentially fixed. In these Web environments, mining traversal patterns is an important problem in Web mining with a host of application domains including system design and information services. Conventional traversal pattern mining systems use the inter-pages association in sessions with only a very restricted mechanism (based on vector or matrix) for generating frequent K-Pagesets. We extend a family of novel algorithms (termed WebPR - Web Page Recommend) for mining frequent traversal patterns and then pageset to recommend. We add a WebPR(A) algorithm into a family of WebPR algorithms, and propose a new winWebPR(T) algorithm introducing a window concept on WebPR(T). Including two extended algorithms, our experimentation with two real data sets, including LadyAsiana and KBS media server site, clearly validates that our method outperforms conventional methods.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1177~1186
In vision-based interfaces for video games, gestures are used as commands of the games instead of pressing down a keyboard or a mouse. In these Interfaces, unintentional movements and continuous gestures have to be permitted to give a user more natural interface. For this problem, this paper proposes a novel gesture spotting method that combines spotting with recognition. It recognizes the meaningful movements concurrently while separating unintentional movements from a given image sequence. We applied our method to the recognition of the upper-body gestures for interfacing between a video game (Quake II) and its user. Experimental results show that the proposed method is on average
in spotting gestures from continuous gestures, confirming its potential for a gesture-based interface for computer games.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1187~1194
In this paper, new contrast enhancement algorithms that use temporal decimation method and approximated CDF(Cumulative Distribution Function) are proposed. They reduce the amount of computation which is required for image contrast enhancement. Simulation results show that the algorithms can achieve significant reduction in the computational cost and the hardware complexity. Visual test and standard deviation of their histogram have been introduced to evaluate the resultant output images of the proposed method and the original ones.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1195~1207
In this paper, we describe image matching techniques which is automatically retrieving the exact matching area using geometry-phase information. We proposed a Matching Method which is rapidly estimating the correspondent points between adjacent images that included big-rotation and top-bottom movement element. It is a method that reduce computation quantity to be required to find an exact correspondent position using geometry-phase information of extracted points in images and DT map which set the distance value among feature points and other points on the basis of each feature point of a image. The proposed method shows good performance especially in the part to search a exact correspondent position between adjacent images that included big-rotation and top-bottom movement element.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1208~1215
In the case of receiving feedbacks from many receivers in the multimedia application using multicasting, the traffic congestion caused bp heavy traffic results in the problem of transmission rate decrease. In solving of this, the local representative method is adopted. However, the control of transmission rate in consideration of all receivers caused uncongested local transmission rate to get slower. In this paper, there is a local representative in solving of this problem. When the transmission rate of a group is less than minimum support threshold, the local representative recounts the transmission rate without congested receivers. Therefore, The local representative method has improved the problem that the transmission rate of uncongested local decreases. The result of this paper shows that this method provides stable transmission rate rather than those of existing methods.
Transmission Rate Decision of Live Video Based on Coding Information
Lee Myeong-jin ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1216~1226
In this paper, a preventive transmission rate decision algorithm, called PTRD, is proposed for the transmission of live video over networks with dynamic bandwidth allocation capability. Frame analyzer predicts the bit-rates of future frames before encoding by analyzing the source information such as spatial variances and the degree of scene changes. By using the predicted bit-rates, transmission rate bounds are derived from the constraints of encoder and decoder buffers. To resolve the problem of renegotiation cost increment due to frequent renegotiations, the PTRD algorithm is presented to decide transmission rates considering the elapsed time after the recent renegotiation and the perceived video quality. From the simulation results, compared to the normalized LMS based method, PTRD is shown to achieve high channel utilization with low renegotiation cost and no delay violation.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1227~1238
Recently, with the advance of network and internet technologies, it is appeared the Problem that the digital contents such as image, voice and video are illegally pirated and distributed. To protect the copyright of the digital contents, the digital watermarking technology of inserting the provider's information into the contents has been widely used. In this paper, we propose the method of applying the digital watermarking into biometric information such as fingerprint and iris in order to prevent the problem caused by steal and misuse. For that, we propose the method of inserting watermark in frequency domain, compare the recognition performance before and aster watermark inserting. Also, we experiment the robustness of proposed method against blurring attack, which is conventionally taken on biometrics data. Experimental results show that our proposed method can be used for protecting iris and fingerprint data, efficiently.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1239~1247
Basically, objects are discriminated by transfer functions in volume rendering . However, in some cases objects cannot be discriminated only with transfer functions. In these cases, objects are pre-segmented with other methods, and visualized based on the segmentation information. In this paper we present a way of assigning per-object transparency in visualization of segmented volumes. Semi-transparent rendering is used to effectively give context information about the observed object. Per-object transparency can be used as a very effective visualization tool especially when it is difficult to adjust transfer functions to make the object semi-transparent. We present several interpretations of the meaning of per-object transparency, and corresponding variations of the algorithm. We show that efficient implementations for interactive use are possible, by presenting an implementation using general graphics hardware.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1248~1257
This paper designs and implements a sentence generation for an augmentive and alternative communication system(AAC). The AAC system is assistive communication device to help the mute language disorder communicate more freely and the system have an objected to reduce time and keystrokes for sentence generating. The paper of sentence generation make up for merits and demerits in the existing sentence generation method and in order to sentence generation. One aspect of Korean language that confines nouns defending on the verbs or postpositional words is used for sentence generation. The distinctive feature of this paper is to connect verbs to nouns using domain knowledge. We utilize the lexical information that exploits characteristics of Korean language for sentence generation. A comparison with other approaches is also presented. This sentence generation is based on lexical information by extracting characteristics of sentences.

While the concept of Home Network is laying by and its interests are increasing by means of digitalizing of the information communication infrastructure, many efforts are in progress toward convenient lives. Moreover, as information household appliances which have a junction of connecting to the network are appearing over the past a few years, the demands against intellectual Home Services are increasing. In this paper, by being based upon Multimedia which is an essential factor for developing of various application services on ubiquitous computing environments, we suggest a simplified application model that could apply the information to the automated processing system after studying user's behavior patterns using authentication and access control for identity certification of users. In addition, we compared captured video images in the fixed range by pixel unit through some time and checked disorder of them. And that made safe of user certification as adopting self-developed certification method which was used 'Hash' algorism through salt function of 12 byte. In order to show the usefulness of this proposed model, we did some testing by emulator for control of information after construction for Intellectual Multimedia Server, which ubiquitous network is available on as a scheme so as to check out developed applications. According to experimental results, it is very reasonable to believe that we could extend various multimedia applications in our daily lives.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1269~1281
The control of character's behavior in games is determined by game designers. One of the popular method used in the control of character's behaviors is rule-based. The rule-based control of behavior makes the flow of play simple and boring. In this paper, we propose an efficient method of controling character's behaviors which can generate various actions of characters by using probability estimation applied to the character's behaviors.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 8, issue 9, 2005, Pages 1282~1291
This paper presents the EVM(Embedded Virtual Machine) which enables the execution of dynamic applications loaded in the embedded systems such as Mobile Devices(mobile phone, PDA), Set-Top Box, and Digital TV using downloading techniques. To accomplish this goal, we defined a SIL-(Standard Intermediate Language) code, and implemented a Bytecode-to-SIL translator which enables the execution of programs written in java language in the EVM platform without JVM, and a MSIL--to-SIL- translator which enables for programs written in .NET language to be executed in the EVM platform without .NET platform. Also, we developed a EFF(Executable File Format) builder as an assembler which translates SIL codes into an executable file, *.evm, and implemented the EVM which reads the *.evm file and executes it. The virtual machine for embedded systems developed in this paper is the software technologies that enable the execution of applications or contents without changes to when the platforms change. In fact, the virtual machine suggested here is not only usable as a standard model for existing virtual machines but also aid in more efficient execution of applications loaded in the embedded systems such as Mobile Devices, Digital TV, and Set-Top Box.
