A Path Combining Strategy for Efficient Storing of XML Documents
Lee, Bum-Suk ; Hwang, Byung-Yeon ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1257~1265
As XML is increasingly used, the need of researches which are related with XML in various fields is also augmented. Many XML document management systems have been actively developed especially for the storage, processing and retrieval of XML documents. The BitCube is a three dimensional bitmap index system that could be manipulated efficiently and improves the performance of document retrieval. However, the site of index is increase rapidly, when a new bit is added to the axis. This problem is caused by its three dimensional memory structure with document, path and word. We suggest a path combining strategy of XML documents in this paper to solve the problem of BitCube that mentioned above. To reduce the size of index, our approach combines sibling nodes that has same ancestor paths, and transforms word axis into value axis. The method reduces the size of index, when the system com poses the three dimensional bitmap index. It also improves the speed of retrieving, and takes efficiency in storage space.

Lee, Wu-Ju ; Kim, Jin-Chul ; Lee, Bae-Ho ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1266~1275
In this paper, we propose a real-lime face detection and tracking algorithm using AdaBoost(Adaptive Boosting) algorithm. The proposed algorithm consists of two levels such as the face detection and the face tracking. First, the face detection used the eight-wavelet feature models which ate very simple. Each feature model applied to variable size and position, and then create initial feature set. The intial feature set and the training images which were consisted of face images, non-face images used the AdaBoost algorithm. The basic principal of the AdaBoost algorithm is to create final strong classifier joining linearly weak classifiers. In the training of the AdaBoost algorithm, we propose SAT(Summed-Area Table) method. Face tracking becomes accomplished at real-time using the position information and the size information of detected face, and it is extended view region dynamically using the fan-Tilt camera. We are setting to move center of the detected face to center of the Image. The experiment results were amply satisfied with the computational efficiency and the detection rates. In real-time application using Pan-Tilt camera, the detecter runs at about 12 frames per second.
Blind Watermarking Using DCT and Variance
Shin, Yong-Dal ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1276~1281
In this paper, We proposed a robust blind digital watermarking algorithm using variance and DCT domain. The proposed method embedded watermark signals into DC components of
block DCT using valiance, texture regions and smooth regions. In the digital watermarking algorithms using DCT domain, more robustness can be achieved if watermarks are embedded in DC components since DC components have much larger perceptual capacity than AC components. Experiment showed that robustness of the proposed method better than that of the conventional methods in JPEG quality and scaling attack.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1282~1295
This paper proposes a method of image tile mosaics to preserve detailed depiction of the source image. This method enhance the shortcoming of the previous mosaic methods that cannot express the detailed depiction because of the gap between tiles. Our method is implemented by the usage of image tiles to preserve detailed depiction of the source image, as well as the usage of 2-layered tiles to.eliminate the gap between tiles. The method suggested in this paper are composed of following process. First of all, the position of the upper layer tile is located through a centroidal voronoi diagram to which an edge avoidance technique is applied, and the position of the lower layer tile is calculated using Delaunay triangulation. Secondly, discover the size and direction field of the tile considering the relation between tiles. Thirdly, adopt a photomosaic technique to use the image tiles. At this time, the technique of multi-level indexing is used to accelerate the speed of image searching. Through above process, the gap between tiles is minimized against other methods and a mosaic image with a maximized detailed description is achieved.
A Study of Using the Magnifying Lens to Detect the Detailed 3D Data in the Stereo Vision
Cha, Kuk-Chan ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1296~1303
The range-based method is easy to get the 3D data in detail, but the image-based is not. In this paper, I suggests the new approach to get the 3D data in detail from the magnified stereo image. Main idea is using the magnifying lens. The magnifying lens not only magnifies the object but also increases the depth resolution. The relation between the amplification of the disparity and the increase of the depth resolution is verified mathematically and the method to improve the original 3D data is suggested.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1304~1313
Biometric-based authentication can provide strong security guarantee about the identity of users. However, security of biometric data is particularly important as the compromise of the data will be permanent. In this paper, we propose a secure and efficient protocol to transmit fingerprint images from a fingerprint sensor to a client by exploiting characteristics of fingerprint images. Because the fingerprint sensor is computationally limited, however, such encryption algorithm may not be applied to the full fingerprint images in real-time. To reduce the computational workload on the resource-constrained sensor, we apply the encryption algorithm to a specific bitplane of each pixel of the fingerprint image. We use the LSB as specific bitplane instead of MSB used to encrypt general multimedia contents because simple attacks can reveal the fingerprint ridge information even from the MSB-based encryption. Based on the experimental results, our proposed algorithm can reduce the execution time of the full encryption by a factor of six and guarantee both the integrity and the confidentiality without any leakage of the ridge information.

Concurrency Control Method Based on Scalable on Prediction for Multi-platform Games
Lee, Sung-Ug ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1322~1331
Concurrency control is one of the important factors to maintain consistent conditions of a game because most participants of the game should be shared information to play the game through a distributed network system. replay delay times should establish in every event and the received event should be saved and performed simultaneously for Concurrency Control. However, it is not easy to practice the event with same speed in environment having various moving speed. Therefore, expansion have to be provided. In other words, one of the most important factors of a game's efficiency is the process of bandwidth and delay. the process of concurrency control method based on scalable prediction for Multi-platform games would minimize the loss rate of a event and then would improve the interaction capacity of a game. It also might get reliability between clients. This paper analyzes some problems in terms of a layout of a game that integrates a cable and a wireless system. In addition, this paper provides methods to expand bandwidth and delay that might be an obstacle of a On-line game and to ensure reliability between a server and a client.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1332~1343
This paper proposes an educational community service system that manages information of good quality intensively without overlapping, and that provides an effective searching function by using a personal community with many user layers. This system raises the efficiency of searching and management by using Metadata and Category. It is a self-leading educational community system that brings merits into relief and improves weak points. We constructed an autogenous Blog chain service as a tool which verifies this system, which is called 'EduLOG(Educational Blog) service' Especially we extracted Metadata suitable for this service, which is on the basis of worldfamous Dublin Core Metadata. And we made a new category on the basis of categories which were proposed by some educational community sites and public educational authorities, and we applied it to this system. To ascertain whether this service system provide adequate function or not, we made a questionnaire on the basis of the appraisal table in websites, and evaluated it at the request of experts. In view of the results so far achieved, it returned good scores (above 3.5/5.0) in accuracy of evaluation, low-end reappearance ratio, easiness of registering and approaching information, and intensive management of a categorical information, confirming the efficiency of the ECSS system. Therefore we believe firmly that the ECSS system will play a efficient information storing and searching roles in the near future.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1344~1353
In terms of the product conforming to a social value of integration of digital and design, the importance of brick toys aiming at the convergence with digital technology in various ways has increased on the strength of expanded base of users and in pursuit of design innovation. Given that previous studies on bricks centered on the role as a tool of flay and education, it is true that studies on other indefinite potentials and expandability in light of multimedia have not been conducted. This study was initiated with a question how the brick system toys, which is gradually gaining popularity, has evolved and is aimed at examining the status of evolvement through study of basic theories and analysis of examples. Based on this, it is intended to explore the possibility of the digital brick system by executing design process utilizing examples of comprehensive brick system with expanded form.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1354~1360
Daegeum is the only Korean musical instrument that uses cheong The characteristics of cheong have to be considered first for the sound synthesis of daegeum. This study analyzes the changes of partials in accordance with the vibration of cheong. It shows that amplitudes differ at the partials after about the seventh partial. The study also found that, unlike the case of partials, the vibration of cheong has nothing to do with noise. We expect that this study results can be applied to the sound synthesis of daegeum.

Recently fast innovation of Internet technology causes lot of application to change into web application and requirement for the inter-operable communication among various systems are increased rapidly. These trends are part of changes which is caused by ubiquitous world and it is just beginning of huge waves that is required to fit and change under the ubiquitous environments. This thesis is focused on the Design and Implementation of Layer Structured Components which can be interfaced effectively for the Material Management System under the Heterogeneous Client Server Environments. The key points to do that kinds of affairs are using XML web services that can communicate thru systems and also using independent layered components for the enforcement of reusability and inter-operability. For the various type of testing of implementation, we used RFID System, PDA, Desktop Systems and confirmed the normal operation without concerning the type of client system and platforms. The Components proposed in this thesis could be reused effectively in case of developing similar applications.
Design of a Padding Algorithm Using the Pad Character Length
Jang, Seung-Ju ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 10, 2006, Pages 1371~1379
This paper suggests the padding algorithm using padding character length to concatenate more than one string without side-effect. Most existing padding algorithms padding null character in the empty location could not discriminate the real string from the padded character. To overcome this problem, in this paper, the padded character contains pad character length information. This mechanism is working better than NULL or '00' padding cases. The suggested padding algorithm could be effective for data encryption and decryption algorithms.
