2D-THI: Two-Dimensional Type Hierarchy Index for XML Databases
Lee Jong-Hak ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 3, 2006, Pages 265~278
This paper presents a two-dimensional type inheritance hierarchy index(2D-THI) for XML databases. XML Schema is one of schema models for the XML documents supporting. The type inheritance. The conventional indexing techniques for XML databases can not support XML queries on type inheritance hierarchies. We construct a two-dimensional index structure using multidimensional file organizations for supporting type inheritance hierarchy in XML queries. This indexing technique deals with the problem of clustering index entries in the two-dimensional domain space that consists of a key element domain and a type identifier domain based on the user query pattern. This index enhances query performance by adjusting the degree of clustering between the two domains. For performance evaluation, we have compared our proposed 2D-THI with the conventional class hierarchy indexing techniques in object-oriented databases such as CH-index and CG-tree through the cost model. As the result of the performance evaluations, we have verified that our proposed two-dimensional type inheritance indexing technique can efficiently support the query Processing in XML databases according to the query types.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 3, 2006, Pages 279~286
Classification method used in this paper is applied for the first time to Korean traditional music. Among the frequency distribution vectors, average peak value is suggested and proved effective comparing to previous classification success rate. Mean, variance, spectral centroid, average peak value and ZCR are used to classify Korean traditional musical instruments. To achieve Korean traditional instruments automatic classification, Spectral analysis is used. For the spectral domain, Various functions are introduced to extract features from the data files. k-NN classification algorithm is applied to experiments. Taegum, gayagum and violin are classified in accuracy of 94.44% which is higher than previous success rate 87%.
Gabor and Wavelet Texture Descriptors in Representing Textures in Arbitrary Shaped Regions
Sim Dong-Gyu ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 3, 2006, Pages 287~295
This paper compares two different approaches based on wavelet and Gabor decomposition towards representing the texture of an arbitrary region. The Gabor-domain mean and standard deviation combination is considered to be best in representing the texture of rectangular regions. However, texture representation of arbitrary regions would enable generalized object-based image retrieval and other applications in the future. In this study, we have found that the wavelet features perform better than the Gabor features in representing the texture of arbitrary regions. Particularly, the wavelet-domain standard deviation and entropy combination results in the best retrieval accuracy. Based on our experiment with texture image sets, we present and compare tile retrieval accuracy of multiple wavelet and Gabor feature combinations.

We proposed the algorithm for the quantization noise reduction based on variable filter adaptive to edge signal in MPEG postprocessing system. In our algorithm, edge map and local modulus maxima in the decoded images are obtained by using 2D Mallat wavelet tilter. And then, blocking artifacts in inter-block are reduced by Gaussian LPF that is variable to filtering region according to edge map. Ringing artifacts in intra-block are reduced by 2D SAF according to local modulus maxima. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm was superior to the conventional algorithms as regards PSNR, which was improved by 0.04-0.20 dB, and the subjective image quality.
Enhanced Query Tree Based Anti-Collision Algorithm for Multiple Tag Identification
Lim In-Taek ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 3, 2006, Pages 307~314
This paper proposes a QT_rev algorithm for identifying multiple tags. The proposed QT_rev algorithm is based on the query tree algorithm. In the algorithm, the tag will send all the bits of their identification codes when the query string matches the first bits of their identification codes. On the other hand, in the QT_rev algorithm, the tag will send the remaining bits of their identification codes. After the leader receives all the responses of the tags, it knows which bit is collided. Therefore, if the collision occurs in the last bit, the reader can identify two tags simultaneously without further query. According to the simulation results, the QT_rev algorithm outperforms the QT algorithm in terms of the number of queries and the number of response bits.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 3, 2006, Pages 315~322
In the application rising IP multicast, the waste of available bandwidth occurs of reducing of transmission rate in non-congestion local caused by reducing of transmission rate in congestion local. In this paper, to solve such a problem, we propose a dynamic multicast method using IP multicast and overlay multicast. In proposed method, we elected a local representative for overlay multicasting. When the transmission rate of a group is less than transmission rate threshold, the representative can transmits duplicative packets. In simulation results, it was known that proposed method uses bandwidth more efficiently.
A Start-Time Based Fair Packet Scheduler Supporting Multiple Delay Bounds
Kim Tae-Joon ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 3, 2006, Pages 323~332
Fair packet scheduling algorithms supporting quality-of-services of real-time multimedia applications can be classified into the following two schemes in terms of the reference time used in calculating the timestamp of arriving packet; the Finish-Time (FT) and Start-Time (ST) schemes. The FT scheme, used in most schedulers, that has the property of an inversely rate-proportional latency is suitable to support various delay bounds because it can adjust the latency of a flow with raising the flow's reserved rate. However, the scheme may incur some bandwidth loss due to excess rate reservation. Meanwhile, although the ST scheme does not suffer from the bandwidth loss, it is hard to support multiple delay bounds because of its latency property relying on the number of flows. This paper is devoted to propose a ST scheme based scheduler to effectively support multiple delay bounds and analyze its performance comparing to the FT scheme based scheduler. The comparison results show that the proposed scheduler gives better utilization by up to 50%.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 3, 2006, Pages 333~341
Recently, Random Constant worm is increasing The worm retards the availability of the overall network by exhausting resources such as CPU resource and network bandwidth, and damages to an uninfected system as well as an infected system. This paper analyzes the Power-Law network which possesses the preferential characteristics to restrain the worm from spreading. Moreover, this paper suggests the model which dynamically controls the spread of the worm using information about depth distribution of the delivery node which can be seen commonly in such network. It has also verified that the load for each node was minimized at the optimal depth to effectively restrain the spread of the worm by a simulation.

Nowadays, Computing environment is changing to ubiquitous. In such ubiquitous computing environments, entities expect to access resources and services at any time from anywhere. Therefore, tile wily how to establish trust relationship among previously unknown devices or resources is needed under such environments. In this paper, we firstly review a model to delegate the trust to communicating entities in ubiquitous environment and its security problems(e.g., malicious right-delegation and revocation of right-delegation). Then, we design a new model for secure delegation over communication entities which is based on two-party signature scheme, and implement it.

Learning Performance Improvement of Fuzzy RBF Network
Kim Kwang-Baek ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 3, 2006, Pages 369~376
In this paper, we propose an improved fuzzy RBF network which dynamically adjusts the rate of learning by applying the Delta-bar-Delta algorithm in order to improve the learning performance of fuzzy RBF networks. The proposed learning algorithm, which combines the fuzzy C-Means algorithm with the generalized delta learning method, improves its learning performance by dynamically adjusting the rate of learning. The adjustment of the learning rate is achieved by self-generating middle-layered nodes and by applying the Delta-bar-Delta algorithm to the generalized delta learning method for the learning of middle and output layers. To evaluate the learning performance of the proposed RBF network, we used 40 identifiers extracted from a container image as the training data. Our experimental results show that the proposed method consumes less training time and improves the convergence of teaming, compared to the conventional ART2-based RBF network and fuzzy RBF network.
