An, Sung-Chul ; Kim, Yeong-Ung ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 773~781
XML is a standard language to express and exchange the data over the web. Recently, researches about techniques that storing XML documents into RDBMS and managing it have been progressed. These researches use a technique that are receiving the DTD document as an input and generate the relational schema from it. Existing researches, however, do not consider the semantic preservation because of the simplification of the DTD. Further, because existing studies only focus on the preservation technique to store information such as content and structure, there is a troublesomeness that have to use the stored-procedure or trigger for the data integrity during the stores of XML documents. This paper proposes a improved Inlining technique to create effective relations and to preserve semantics which can be inferred from DTD.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 782~800
Image metadata is used to describe the contents, structures, and features of a given image data. There exist lots of image metadata-related standards. Such image metadata need to be shared to efficiently search the correct images in Web Service-enabled distributed environments. In this thesis, we propose an interoperable system architecture for utilizing image metadata and query extension methods using metadata mapping for correct and efficient image searching. In the proposed methods, the provider schema using non-standard image metadata are mapped into the schema based on the VRA standard, which is used as a basic and intermediary standard in MDR(MetaData Registry). We support mapping operations between the VRA standard and other standards, to reduce the number of unnecessary mapping operations and to enable easier addition of schema based on new standards. Using the proposed query processing methods, which utilize image metadata and overcome their heterogeneity by metadata mapping, it is possible to severely improve the correctness of image retrieval. To show the usefulness of our schemes, we implemented a prototype system and performed retrieval performance evaluation on extended query processing.

This study analyzed the timbral characteristics of Pliri by basis step for the sound synthesis for Piri, Korean traditional musical Instrument. By analyzing this material, we can find out three characteristics about the study of the spectrum analysis for the sound synthesis of Piri. First, compared the timbral characteristics of Piri with Oboe through the spectrum analysis, Second, analyzed the timbral characteristics by the sound occurrence process through the time zone analysis of the attack part of the sound started. Finally, analyzed the special characteristics of the vibrato that is important role of musical instrument performance. As a result, the timbral characteristics of Piri is that the volume of the high harmonics was appeared to be high unlike the general classical instrument and the noise quantity rapidly decreased in the sound attack part but the volume value of harmonics increased. And also vibrato that is performance technique is changed pitch and amplitude at the same time by contrast with the general classical instrument. Thus, the timbral characteristic of Piri by the harmonics and the timbre change by the attack part which is sound occurrence process and the change of the pitch and amplitude in the vibrato is characteristic that represented unique quality of Piri. We expect that this achievement can be applied to sound synthesis.

Although the generally used the velocity index of doppler effect is a very significant factor in the functional evaluation of the left ventricle, it depends on the subjective evaluation of an inspector. The objective data of the motility can be obtained from the gated myocardial SPECT images by quantitative analysis. However, it is difficult to image visual of the velocity of the motion. The aim of our study is to develop a new method for the imaging velocity using the gated myocardial SPECT images and use it as an evaluation index for analyzing motility. First we visualized left ventricle into 3 dimensions using the coordinates of the points which were obtained through a segmentation of myocardium. Each point was represented by the different colors, according to the velocity of each point. We performed a validation study using 7 normal subjects and 15 myocardial infarction patients. To analyze motility, we used the average of the moved distance and the velocity. In normal cases, the average of the moved distance was 4.3mm and the average of the velocity was 11.9mm. In patient cases, the average of the moved distance was 3.9mm and the average of the velocity was 10.5mm. These results show that the motility of normal subjects is higher than the abnormal subjects. We expect that our proposed method could become a way to improve the accuracy and reproducibility for the functional evaluation of myocardial wall.

Yang, Young-Hyun ; Kwon, Soon-Kak ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 818~826
In this paper, we investigate the relationship of bitrate and quantization parameter needed for the trans-coding method that makes the H.264 bitstream of a particular bitrate to the other titrate. Also we propose the new method in order to transcode the titrate between H.264 video coded bitstreams. The proposed transcoding method updates the model parameters from previous picture or slice by using the approximated relationship of bitrate and quantization step-size and finds the target quantization step-size, and then generates the target titrate by simple coding processing just after requantization. Therefore, the proposed method does not need the complex bitrate control and converts to the target titrate by simple implementation. From simulation, we can see that the proposed method transcodes exactly to an assigned target bitrate for the four test sequences with different their characteristics.
Concurrent Processing Algorithm on Event Messages of Virtual Environment Using Round-Robin Scheduling
Yu, Seok-Jong ;
Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 827~834
In distributed virtual environment, system response time to users' interactions is an importance factor to determine the degree of contentment with the system. Generally, response time is affected by the efficiency of event message processing algorithm, and most of previous systems use FCFS algorithm, which processes message traffic sequentially based only on the event occurrence time. Since this method totally depends on the order of occurrence without considering the priorities of events, it has a problem that might drop the degree of system response time by causing to delay processing message traffic when a bottleneck phenomenon happens in the server side. To overcome this limitation of FCFS algorithm, this paper proposes a concurrent event scheduling algorithm, which is able to process event messages concurrently by assigning the priorities to the events. It is also able to satisfy the two goals of system together, consistency and responsiveness through the combination of occurrence time with priority concept of events.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 835~843
Multicast can send one copy of each packet to each member of the multicast group. Network resource is utilized effectively, consequently, it is suitable for one-to-many environments. reliability and flow control, however, are not supported basically, it is not suitable or transmission of multimedia data which have a time restriction. In this paper, we present a network model and a multicast retransmission scheme The proposed scheme remove ack-explosion from sender through local recovery and performs local retransmission when time restriction is satisfied on receiver by considering the state of receiver's buffer. Mathematical analysis and simulation are conducted to prove performance of the proposed scheme. The results are shown that the proposed scheme consumes a lower network bandwidth than the existing network model and guarantees QoS of receivers.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 844~853
The IEEE 802.17 Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) for future Local, Metropolitan, and Wide Area Networks was recently standardized, but it still suffer from delay jitter deterioration and even some bandwidth loss under unbalanced overload. In order to overcome these drawbacks, this paper proposes a bandwidth redistribution based fairness control method, compatible with the legacy one, in which each congested node measures the amount of available bandwidth of its bottleneck link resulted from regulating upstream nodes' shares of the link bandwidth, calculates optimal fair rate with the number of uptream nodes requiring more bandwidth, and then redistributes the available bandwidth to the upstream nodes by advertising the rate. The performance evaluation results show that the proposed method fairly redistributes 95% of the bottleneck link bandwidth with even only two redistributions.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 854~863
As WiBro service providers which provide a wireless multimedia communication service are selected, the commercial service will emerge in the near future. Although the use of efficient multicast technology for multimedia will be essentially required, it would be difficult to design the overall communication network in the early stage by using IP multicast due to technological or commercial issues. Application layer multicast schemes or hybrid multicast schemes also should be considered. In this paper, we propose a hybrid multicast scheme and evaluate its performance against typical IP multicast schemes on modelling of the WiBro network for one of WiBro service providers. We also propose a simulation method for the hybrid multicast on the simulation network for performance evaluation. If the number of mobile nodes reaches a certain point, the performance difference between the hybrid multicast and IP multicast is reduced significantly. We show that hybrid multicast technology can be applied for WiBro service without much performance degradation.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 864~871
With the advancement of the digital broadcasting and popularity of Internet, there is an increasing demand for digital data. Recently, several studies have been made on the digital watermarking for copyright protection of digital data. We propose a blind video watermarking using minimum modification of motion vectors. Conventional methods based on motion vectors do watermarking using modification of motion vectors. However, change of motion vectors results in the degradation of video quality. Thus, our proposed algorithm minimizes modification of the original motion vectors to avoid degradation of video quality using simple embedded conditions. Besides, our scheme guarantees the amount of embedded watermark data using the adaptive threshold considering the human visual characteristic. In addition, this is compatible with current video compression standards without changing the bitstream. Experimental result shows that the proposed scheme obtains better video quality than other previous algorithms by about

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 872~893
In this study, I classify the elements of physiognomic judgment of character with regard to form and meaning from a visual perspective based on physiognomic judgment of character study in 'the cosmic dual forces and the Five Elements theory'. Individual characters for each type are designed using graphic data. Based on that, design system of individual characters for each personality type is investigated using Neural Network system. Faces with O-Haeng (Five Elements) shapes are shown to constitute the system with
degree of error tolerance for the non-loaming input data. For the shapes of Chinese characters 'tree, fire, soil, gold and water', their MSE(Mean Square Error) are 0.3, 0.3, 0.2, 0.5, 0.2. It seems to be the best regarding the scoring system which ranges from 0 to 5. Therefore, this system might be regarded to produce the most accurate facial shape of character automatically when we input character's personality we desire to make.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 904~913
The QoS(Quality of Service) of VoD(Video on Demand) systems can be improved by reducing the faults that the stream service request from clients is rejected by the VoD server or lost during the service. This paper proposes a model of Dynamic Workload Balancer that can adjust the workload dynamically through the periodical monitoring of the VoD system, and so increase the throughput. The proposed model runs independently from the VoD system by adopting the agent concept. The model comprises the agency part interfacing the VoD system and the intelligence part reasoning or teaming the facts required for the adjustment of workload. An experiment of implementing a simulator was conducted to see whether or not application of the proposed model to VoD system is effective. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the throughput was relatively increased when the proposed model was applied compared to existing means.

Small-sized domestic logistics-companies are required to satisfy the high quality of logistics information service. However, these companies are not prepared to complete customers' requirement because of the e-logistics process, excess of logistics distribution steps, and so forth. Moreover, large-sited foreign logistics companies are going into domestic market and trying to share the market. In this paper, we propose an ASP-based real-time Logistics Information Control System using location-based service(LBS) and logistics information service to reinforce the competitiveness of domestic logistics-companies and improve the customer service quality. This system is designed to trace and control the real-time logistics movement information by using GPS and to process the transportation information by using SMS.

Journal of Korea Multimedia Society, volume 9, issue 7, 2006, Pages 927~937
Auto-playing programs are often used in behalf of human players in MMORPG(Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Game). By playing automatically and continuously, it helps to speed up the game character's level-up process. However, the auto-playing programs, either software or hardware, do harm to games servers in various ways including abuse of resources. In this paper, we propose a way of detecting the auto programs by analyzing the window event sequences produced by the game players. In our proposed method, the event sequences are transformed into a set of attributes, and the Decision Tree learning is applied to classify the data represented by the set of attribute values into human or auto player. The results from experiments with several MMORPG show that the Decision Tree learning with proposed method can identify the auto-playing programs with high accuracy.
