An Application of GIS and RS Techniques for Suitability Evaluation of Rural Recreation Area

The need for recreation and green-tourism seems to be enhanced greatly according to increasing income and leisure. The rural area and village should be developed and improved with a new direction as basic areas for the green-tourism. This study developed a new methodology to be able to find suitable areas for recreation and green-tourism using GIS and RS. The eight criteria for suitability evaluation of recreation area extracted by GIS and RS techniques from computerized map layers and satellite images have their weighting values, which are quantified by AHP method. The new finding methodology was applied to a study area, the Ansung city in Kyunggi province. The results showed that the suitable area with high score for the recreation and green-tourism were analyzed spatially near by ancient culture and water resources. The new findings enable decision makers to analyze spatially the suitability area of the recreation area and village improvement for the green-tourism.
An Analysis on Residents' Attitudes on Ecotourism of Less Favored Mountainous Area - Focused on the Bonghwa-gun, Gyongbuk Province -

As a supplier of ecotourism, local people are vital for its successful development of ecotourism in Less Favored Mountainous Area(LFMA). A survey was carried on to investigate the residents' attitudes toward ecotourism development. In addition, an Importance-Performance Analysis(IPA) of resources for ecotourism was carried out. Major results are: First, cognition of residents fur environmentally friendly approach in tourism development, was very high (76.1 %). And appreciations of residents towards ecotourism were also high(more than 50%), Recently, the understanding of ecotourism is highly increasing. Second, ecotourism development was highly accepted(63%) as a desirable tourism development. And 65% of respondents showed willingness of participation to ecotourism development. Third, valleys were cognized as major ecotourism resources, and as a result of IPA, (unique) plant community, eco-villages, and habitats of wildlifes were in the category of 'Concentrate Here'.
Regional Revitalization and Settlement Improvement from the point of view of the Local Residents - A Case Study on the Nakathu-Mura of Wakayama Prefecture in Japan -

In this study, a new model for improving the settlement environment and revitalizing hilly and mountainous areas was presented. A case study was conducted in two rural villages of Nakatsu-Mura in Wakayama-Prefecture, Japan. The settlement environment was evaluated from the point of view of the local residents, and the expectation of the local residents about the regional revitalization of their village in the future was assessed. From the analysis, each factor used far the assessment displayed characteristics of the two rural villages well. The type of improvement in rural villages was classified by a combination of the degree of satisfaction over the current settlement environment and expectation about the regional revitalization of the villages in the future. A method for improving and revitalizing settlement environments was clarified.
A Study on the Restoration of Neunggil Village Forests in Jinan

The purpose of this study is on identifying the restoration guidelines of supplementary village grove and villageside forest in case of Neunggil village in Jinan county of Korea. These forests were managed very well before industrialization by village residents in order to obtain fuels and organic fertilizers traditionally. But recently, these forests were abandoned by using natural gas, oil and chemical fertilizer. Therefore, species diversity of these forests was downward and traditional rural landscape was lost. Accordingly, this study suggested the restoration guidelines of these forests through restoring the relationship between man and nature. For this, vegetation map was made by quadrat method. And management guidelines of these forests were suggested by the analysis of vegetation map. Also, for the restoration of supplementary village grove, Miyawiki professor's method of Yokohama university through introducing potential natural vegetation was suggested.
Estimating the Economic Valuation of Rural Environmental Improvement Using Contingent Valuation Method

The purpose of this study is to estimate the economic valuation of rural waste disposal facilities that are one of the rural environmental improvement projects using contingent valuation method(CVM) in Gyongsangbuk-do, Korea. This study surveyed 1,089 households about the WTP(Willing To Pay) of rural waste disposal facilities policy in Gyongsangbuk-do and it was composed with city level and town level. The overall results show that the respondents well accepted the contingent market and would be willing to pay(WTP) a significant amount for the proposed policy program of rural waste disposal facilities. The values estimated for the rural waste disposal facilities are as follows : 1. The maximum WTP was \10,466 in City level and it was \9,104 in town level by per year. 2. The mean WTP was \9,257 in City revel and it was \8,636 in town lever by per year. 3. Total economic benefits for the household amounted to \7,989,046,270 per year. This result can be used to useful base data fir the policy programs of rural waste disposal facilities.
Development of a potential evaluation method for urban expansion using GIS and RS technologies

This study aims to develop a potential evaluation method for urban spatial expansion using remote sensing (RS) and geographic information system (GIS). A multi-criteria evaluation method with several criteria and their weighting values was introduced to evaluate the score and quantification of the potential surface around the existing cities. The six criteria with one geographic factor, slope, and five accessibility factors, time distance from center of the city, national road, interchange of expressway, a big city, and station, were defined for the potential. RS techniques were applied for classification of the actual urban expansion maps between two periods, and GIS functions were used for score of accessibility criteria with a distance decay function from geographic, road and several point maps, which was developed in this study. The new methodology was applied to a test area, Suwon, between 1986 and 1996. In order to optimize the six weighting values, this study made new findings to search the optimal combination of the weighting values from new methodology, weighted scenario method for intensity order (WSM), combined with intensity order and AHP method, including a trial and error method for sensitivity analysis to make the intensity order. The optimal combination of the weighting values by the new method generated the optimal potential surface, considering spatial trend of urban expansion in the test area.
Analysis of the Effect of Shipping Control depending on the Limited Storage Life of Agricultural Products

In this study the effect caused by limited storage lift of agricultural products for determining shipping amount can be analyzed by
order autoregressive model based on cobweb theorem. Carrying capacity and auction price of upland-grown cabbage and garlic from 2000 to 2003 in wholesale markets were used for analysis. In result regression models of cabbage can not be used in verification periods although those of garlic approximately predicted shipping amounts in verification periods. It can be inferred that it is hard to control shipping amounts depending on price fluctuation for agricultural products which have limited storage life so cultivated areas and meteorological risk should be managed for stable price.
