Journal of Korean Society of Rural Planning, volume 15, issue 1, 2009, Pages 1~13
This study tried to establish a renewal guideline for rural villages through the analysis on locational characteristics of amenity/disamenity elements. Space Syntax Method was applied to analyze the locational characteristics of amenity/disamenity elements in qualitative terms. The study was carried out by 5 steps: Selection of amenity/disamenity classification table and case study villages(used same ones as in the previous study)
Drawing of base-map for spatial analysis
Preparation of final study-map after field survey
Spatial analysis using the Space Syntax Method
Proposing of a rural village renewal guideline. Through the application study to the case study villages, it was ascertained that the renewal guideline proposed in this study would well help reflect spatial characteristics of amenity/disamenity elements in plan-making works of rural villages.

Journal of Korean Society of Rural Planning, volume 15, issue 1, 2009, Pages 15~29
Owing to the industrialization, the urbanization and cultivation abandonment actual condition, the most abandoned farmlands increased. Those results have occurred inefficient land use and destruction of agricultural ecosystem with the secondary succession. The research for the abandoned farmlands of Korea is fundamental phase. Also, the researches to restore abandoned farmlands are something yet to develop and not established the restoration for ecological value of abandoned farmlands. The objective of research revealed the ecological functions of abandoned farmlands and it presented an application plan. The research method divided in the literature and case study. Using abandoned farmlands, Japan government tries to create the ecological parks for the conservation of a vulnerable plant species, dragonfly biotope, environmental education and research, etc. Accordingly, the goal for the abandoned farmlands coulds be set suitably to Korean situation as of Japanese styles which are characterized by man-made biotopes.

Community facilities in most rural villages have many problems in the aspect of their size or functions as well as they are generally too superannuated to support diverse community activities; which results in a low degree of inhabitants' satisfaction with community facilities, and inconvenience for using them. Therefore, it may carefully be said that it's time to need the established studies that are necessary with consider to community facilities which can reflect inhabitants' diverse activities. In this study, 5 places which the most common events among the major monthly events of total 25 rural villages were held were selected as the subject place for survey; and then investigated, by means of the participant observation method, the using behavior of inhabitants who used community facilities. Focusing on size, factors, and layout that were being faced by community facilities in most rural villages, This study investigated the number of users, the characteristics of traffic line and behavior, and the using behavior by group; through considering their correlation with the physical setting of community space, it deduced the problems of use; and it proposed the direction of improvement on the basis thereof. Therefore, this study will serve in the future as useful basic materials for designing a rural village's community facilities in consideration of size, factors and layout which can appropriately support inhabitants' community activities.

Journal of Korean Society of Rural Planning, volume 15, issue 1, 2009, Pages 47~59
The aim of this study is to analyze the green-tourism centrality considering spatial interaction using Gravity Model and social network method. The degree centrality and prestige centrality were applied as green-tourism centrality index. The rural amenity resources and human resources were counted as attraction factors, and a distance among villages was used as friction factor in gravity model. The weights of rural tourism amenity resources were calculated using the analytic hierarchy process(AHP) method and applied to evaluate green-tourism potentiality. The distance was measured with the shortest path among villages using geographic information system(GIS) network analysis. The spatial interaction from gravity model were employed as link weights between nodal points; a pair villages. Using the spatial interaction, the degree-centrality and prestige-centrality indices were calculated by social network analysis and demonstrated possibility of developing integrated green-tourism region centered on high centrality villages.
Determinants of Demand for Residential Settlement in Rural Society Based on Depopulation Classification
Lee, Hee-Chan ; Kim, Hyun ;
Journal of Korean Society of Rural Planning, volume 15, issue 1, 2009, Pages 61~71
The objective of this research was to analyze the determinants of demand for residential settlements in rural societies. A significant aspect of the demand analysis was to consider depopulation classification as a moderating variable with a view to its role as an essential dividing factor of socioeconomic characteristics and physical environments of the areas of concern. The data collection for analysis was divided according to types of depopulation into the three categories of less developed, stagnated, and developed areas. For the cause and effect analysis between the residential demand and factors of settlement, the ordered probit model was applied. Significant determinants of settlement demand unfolded according to depopulation types. In the case of less developed areas, residential demand was affected significantly by the factors of daily life convenience and public facilities. Key settlement demand determinants of stagnated regions included the aspects of basic natural environment, daily life convenience and education. Meanwhile, key settlement demand determinants for developed areas included education and agriculture economic aspects. The importance-performance analysis was also applied to a set of settlement characteristics of rural communities to figure out the settlement factors requiring urgent endeavor to improve.
Analysis of Information Adoption Pathways and Strategies of Raising Information Adoption of Farmers
Choi, Sang-Ho ;
Journal of Korean Society of Rural Planning, volume 15, issue 1, 2009, Pages 73~87
This study analyzed the characteristics of diverse information adoption pathways per pathway of information composition category including 'information perception', 'information assessment', and 'information adoption' and examined information adoption characteristics per pattern. In addition, differences among agricultural researchers and farmers per information adoption stage were analyzed. According to these analyses, as for farmers' information adoption pathways, while the formal extension type and the situational reaction diffusion type used the direct pathway of 'information perception
information adoption,'the agriculturist connection type and the systematic approach type did not use the direct pathway of 'information perception
information adoption' but, instead, adopted information by moving from the 'information perception
information assessment' pathway to the 'information assessment
information adoption' pathway, with information assessment as the intermediation. In the case of farmers, information adoption was the highest in comparison with information assessment and information perception in all patterns whereas, in the case of agricultural researchers, the results were exactly opposite those of farmers. By suggesting an information adoption pathway appropriate to each pattern, this study sought to enhance information adoption.

I wish to establish Kwang-shi Han-woo agriculture theme park furtherance plan that take advantage of unique area resource of homebred cattle meat sale restaurant of the Chungchong-namdo Yesan County Kwang-Shi Ran-woo village. Improve regional income that develops Kwang-shi Ran-woo area that is made up a rest and experience space that escapes in sightseeing of Ran-woo meat putting first that is food, and contribute in economy activation by promotes City-Farm exchange, and is behind present, and is expected that contributes in farm village area activation that is stagnated Ran-woo specialization area of whole country scale. Kwang-shi Han-woo agriculture-farm village theme park plan is thought that active participation of thorough environmental protection and local resident is necessary condition as plan that take advantage of peculiar latency resource of area. In plan process, reflected various opinion of local resident representatives to space but there is a little insufficient page, and sees that also thorough environment analysis should be preceded. Hereafter, see that correction' repletion need a little through thorough grasping of latency resource that put together thorough natural environment investigation. in Yesan County with analysis at final design step. But, see that plan of theme park that take advantage of characteristic resource in farm village, especially situation of Ran-woo farmhouses that is suffering now difficulty as plan that do appropriateness of city in area activation and economical income guarantee side of farmhouse inhabitants.

Song, Kwang-IN ; Jeong, Jin-Saeng ;
Journal of Korean Society of Rural Planning, volume 15, issue 1, 2009, Pages 101~107
The purposes of this study were to search for the ways to activate the Gochang Blackberry Festival by examining the visitors to the festival and utilizing the results to make efficient use of the local resources and vitalize the area. The results indicate that the visitors were aware of Gochang blackberry's superiority to that of other regions in quality and commercial value but lacked in the recognition of its related products, which suggests that the Gochang government should make diverse efforts to heighten their recognition of the products. There was a great demand for improving and supplementing the local festivals ad experience programs related to Gochang blackberry. It's thus required to reinforce new experience programs and develop various programs by incorporating blackberry into other local resources. The study has its limitations since its subjects were restricted to the visitors of the Gochang Blackberry Festival and it failed to investigate the preference factors of general potential tourists with the small sample. In future study, they need to use a bigger sample of general public to generalize the research findings.
