Molecular Docking to Acetyl-CoA Carboxylase of 2-(4-(6-chloro-2-benzoxazolyl)oxy)phenoxy-N-phenylpropionamide Analogues and Their Herbicidal Activity

To search the new potent herbicidal agents by receptor-based approach, the interactions between receptor and substrate molecules from molecular docking to acetyl-CoA carboxylase(PDB code: 3K8X) of 2-(4-(6-chloro-2-benzoxazolyl)oxy)phenoxy-N-phenylpropionamide analogues (1-38) as substrate molecules were performed and discussed quantitatively. The most of the substrate molecules were formated 2 H-bonds between carbonyl oxygen atom of the substrate molecules and the amino acid residues (Ala1627 and Ile1735) in binding site of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase). But, the substrate molecules such as
=Acetyl substituents (6 & P9) were formated 3 H-bonds between H-bond acceptors in the substrate molecules and the H-bond donors in three amino acid residues including the rest residue (Gly 1998). Therefore, the inhibitory activity factors of the substrate molecules against ACCase are due to the H-bonding characters that will be able to apply to the optimization of herbicidal agents.

Phenylformamidine derivatives are well known as insecticides for their specific activity against the insects. It has now been established that they show insecticidal activity as agonists on the octopamine receptor. In order to get a highly active compound we have intensively exploited fluorine substituted-aromatic formamidines possessing N-dialkylaminosulfeny group. Up to now, there are several candidates we found: N-(dialkylamino)sulfenyl-N-methyl-N'-(4-fluoro-2-methylphenyl)formamidines. The miticidal activity of Compound 29 show five-fold higher than Amitraz.
Analysis on Pesticide Residue in Medicinal Dried Fruits

There experiment were carried out to analyze for pesticide residues in 4 kinds of dried fruits collected in northern area of Seoul in 2007~2009. Total of 213 samples were analyzed. According to the results, 20 kinds of residual pesticides were detected. Residual pesticides were detected in 66 samples (31.0%) and 8 samples (3.8%) exceeded maximum residue limits (MRL). Cypermethrin, fenvalerate, endosulfan, chlorpyrifos, bifenthrin were detected frequently. The Pesticide types which were detected in dried furits were revealed in order of pyrethroid > organophosphate > organochloride > dicarboximide. Detection rates of dried fruits were dried chinese matrimony vein (53.0%), dried jujube (34.9%), dried rubi fructus (7.6%) and dried maximowiczia chinensis (4.6%). Based on these results, we investigated the risk assessment from amount of residual pesticide in dried jujube. Range of %ADI were 0.0001~0.0081%, but the value has not effected on human health.
The Difference of Fish Toxicity by Preparation Methods of Test Solution

The solubility in water of granular pesticides is not equal because the difference of methods of producing a granular pesticide. This study was conducted to investigate fish acute toxicity of butachlor 5% GR, fipronil 0.4% GR by impregnation and carbosulfan 3% GR, diazinon 0.4% GR by coating, using carp (C. carpio), medaka (O. tatipes) and loach (M. anguillicaudatus). The test solution of each pesticide was prepared by direct addition of granular pesticide and add after grinding granular pesticide to powder in test water, We also investigated
and residual concentration until 96 hours. Test results were appeared that the treatment of powder was 1.2~4 time higher than granular and toxicity increased clearly according to elapsed time, And the residual amounts by time were detected much at early time in the powder treatment of butachlor GR and diazinon GR. Conclusively, fish acute toxicity and residual concentration in test solution appeared higher in the powder treatment than treat granular form directly in water. Also, 96 hours toxicity values were stable comparatively and the error is less than 48 hours.
Residual Toxicity of Bifenthrin and Imidacloprid to Honeybee by Foliage Treatment

Foliage residue toxicity experiment was performed against honeybee (Apis mellifera) with bifenthrin, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide with strong acute contact toxicity and imidacloprid, a neo-nicotinoid insecticide with strong acute oral toxicity to know the honeybee toxicity at the residue level on the leaves of alfalfa and apple. Also, the formulation differences to honeybee toxicity were investigated with WP (2%) and EC (1%) of bifenthrin and WP (10%) and SL (4%) of imidacloprid. Generally, foliage residual toxicity of honeybee and residual amounts of tested insecticides was higher in alfalfa leaves with large leaf area per unit weight than in apple leaves. While on the other hand, the only bifenthrin WP treatment showed higher honeybee toxicity on apple leaves than alfalfa. Although imidacloprid showed higher residue amounts ranged
than bifenthrin ranged
on the leaves, the residual toxicity to honeybee was lower than bifenthrin because of its strong penetration character. In conclusion, the residual toxicity of insecticide to honeybee could be affected by the contact and vaporized toxicity of chemical, the residual amounts on the surface of leaves, and the leaf area per unit weight and formulation differences.
Processing and Reduction Factors of Azoxystrobin and Flutolanil in Garlic by Freeze-Drying

In order to elucidate residual characteristics of pesticides in garlic by drying, azoxystrobin and flutolanil used for garlic were treated to the garlic by dipping for 1 and 5 min into their standard diluents and then the garlic was dried with a freeze-drier. The test pesticides were analyzed with a GLC-ECD/NPD. Recoveries of the pesticides ranged from 81.96 to 98.18%. Amount of azoxystrobin and flutolanil in fresh garlic were 0.34 and 1.18 mg/kg in case of dipping for 1 min. and 0.44 and 2.15 mg/kg in case of dipping for 5 min., respectively. Also, amount of azoxystrobin and flutolanil in dried garlic were 0.80 and 4.51 mg/kg in case of dipping for 1 min. and 1.03, 5.28 mg/kg in case of dipping for 5 minute, respectively, representing that concentration of the test pesticides in garlic were increased by drying. In case of dipping for 1 and 5 min., processing factors of azoxystrobin were 2.35 and 3.34 and those of flutolanil were 1.19 and 1.17, respectively. Reduction factors of the pesticides in garlic were range from 0.94 to 0.97, indicating that few amounts of the test pesticides in garlic were dissipated by freeze-drying.
Economic Thresholds for Corn Borer on Waxy Corn

Field experiments were carried out to establish economic threshold for com borer (Ostrinia furnacalis (Guen
e)) on waxy com plants by examining the number of adult insects caught in pheromone traps and the injury levels of waxy com which were artificially controlled. Adult com borers were lured into the pheromone traps during the whole growth period in five areas in Gangwon province including Chuncheon. The number of com borers trapped was the greatest in Chuncheon followed by Cheolwon and Hongcheon, and the same trend was observed for injury level of waxy com. Based on marketable yield data of waxy com plants related to the artificially-controlled injury levels at tassel stage, spray threshold was determined as the injury level of 11~15%, where the injury of com plants exceeded the economically admitting level.
Cross Resistance and Point Mutation of the Mitochondrial Cytochrome b of Bifenazate Resistant Two-spotted Spider Mite, Tetranychus urticae

Two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae was collected from the rose greenhouse in Chilgok, Gyeongbuk Province in December 2000. This population has been selected for ten years with bifenazate (over 450 times), and increased 855.9 fold in resistance as compared with susceptible strain (S). Cross resistance of bifenazate resistant (BR) strain to eight miticides was investigated. The BR strain exhibited high and low cross resistance to acequinocyl (614.0 fold) and to chlorfenapyr (9.1 fold), respectively. Against fenazaquin (0.3 fold) and fenpyroximate (0.1 fold), however, showed the strain negatively correlated cross resistance. Each strain collected in Choeng-ju (CJ), Kang-jin (KJ), and Chung-ju (CUJ) showed 5.5-, 964.5-, and 21.8-fold resistance to bifenazate, respectively. The detoxifying enzymes of the BR strain showed 1.6-fold activity in cytochrome
-dependent monooxygenase (
) as compared with susceptible one. By comparing the mitochondrial cytochrome b (cytb) sequence, G126S point mutation was detected in the BR and KJ strains.
Insect Diversity in Non-organic and Organic Chinese Cabbage and Pepper Farms

Insect diversities in non-organic and organic Chinese cabbage and pepper fields were studied in 2009. Sixty-two species in 9 orders and 24 species in 6 orders were collected in organic and non-organic Chinese cabbage fields, respectively. In pepper fields, insect diversity was also higher in organic fields than in non-organic ones. Dominance index, diversity index, richness index, and evenness index in organic fields were higher than those in non-organic fields.
Selection of Fungicide Against Lichen-forming Fungi for the Chemical Control of Lichen Colonization on Stone Heritages and Plants

Lichens, a symbiotic organism of fungi and algae, cause serious damage to national heritages of stone master piece and costly trees for gardening. The present study was conducted to screen effective fungicides against lichen-forming fungi to control the biological agents deteriorating stone heritages and trees. Five commercial fungicides (Fenarimol EC, Etridiazole EC, Iminoctadinetriacetate SL, Difenoconazole+lminocatadinetriacetate ME and Difenoconazole+Azoxystrobin SC) were tested against the lichen-forming fungi (LFF) isolated from seven saxicolous (Caloplaca sp., Ramalina sp., Xanthoparmelia sp., and Xanthoria sp.,) or corticolous (Parmelia sp.,) lichen species. Preliminary screening test showed that no LFF could grow on the MY (malt-yeast extract) agar medium amended with the recommended concentrations of each fungicide. Further screening was conducted at 1%, 10% and 20% of the recommended concentrations of the fungicides. After 7 week incubation at
in the dark, Difenoconazole+Iminocatadinetriacetate ME and Difenoconazole+Azoxystrobin SC completely inhibited the fungal growth of all the tested LFF, even at 1% of the concentration. Two fungicides of Fenarimol EC and Iminoctadinetriacetate SL exhibited a moderate inhibition activity at the lower concentrations. Etridiazole EC was less effective in the fungal growth inhibition than the other four fungicides. The results suggested that lichens colonizing on precious stone heritages and trees can be eradicated by applying Difenoconazole+Iminocatadinetriacetate ME and Difenoconazole+Azoxystrobin SC even 1% of the recommended concentrations. Selected fungicide application at such a low concentration will facilitate the chemical use to prevent and preserve stone heritages from biological deterioration induced by lichens and the allied microbes.
Comparison and Analysis of Insecticide Resistance of Two Spotted Spider Mite (Tetranychus urficae) among Apple Orchards

Fungicidal Activity Enhancement of KNF-1002 Against Barley Powdery Mildew by Facilitating Foliar Uptake and Deposition

KNF-1002, a new fungicide candidate, is very effective for protecting crops against plant diseases, but its curative activity against barley powdery mildew is negligible due to its weak penetrability into plant leaf. To select the most efficient activator and, at the same time, spreade-sticker, foliar uptake and deposit of aqueous spray formulations containing non-ionic or anionic surfactants and fatty acid alkyl esters as an adjuvant were assessed by using Congo Red method. In the absence of activator, only 0.1% of the applied active ingredient was absorbed by barley leaves 24 h after spraying with an aqueous acetone containing KNF-1002 100 mg/L. But, non-ionic surfactants (500 mg/L), such as heptaethylene glycol monooctadecenyl ether (OE-7), dodecaethylene glycol monohexadecyl ether (CE-12), so facilitated KNF-1002 uptake that the uptake was increased up to 48.5%. To wheat plant, the addition of surfactants in spray solution of KNF-1002 also increased the foliar uptake and deposition of active ingredient, but its efficiency varied according to the kind of fatty alcohol moiety of polyoxyethylene surfactant. KNF-1002 formulations containing nonaethylene glycol monododecyl ether (LE-9) as an activator and spreader-sticker showed remarkable increases of fungicidal activity against barley powdery mildew.
Inhibitory Effect of Extracts from 33 Medicinal Herbs Against TMV and CMV Infection

Extracts of 33 medicinal herbs belonging to 28 different families used as precious resources in the Northeast Asia were tested for their antiviral activities against two major plant viruses. Twenty one methanol extracts from 19 different families were found to have a antiviral activity against tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) when tested on indicator plants under greenhouse conditions. Most of these extracts have weak activities at the concentration used. But the methanol extracts of Phellinus linteus exhibited potent (
) antiviral activity against TMV infection and also showed
activity against CMV infection. The methanol extracts of the gall of Rhus javanica also showed strong inhibitory efficacy over
against TMV or CMV infection. Further research is needed to elucidate the active constituents of these medicinal herbs which may be useful in the development of new and effective antiviral agent against plant viruses.
Control of Pea Weevil (Bruchus pisorum L.) in Jeonnam Province

A series of experiments was carried out for selecting insecticides and determining proper spraying time to control pea weevil (Bruchus pisorum Linnaeus) in Jeonnam area. In the field trial two times spray with diazinon, carbaryl, imidacloprid, spinosad, etofenprox, clorpyrifos-methyl showed good control effect and threetimes spray showed the better control effect. The second spray (spraying on 10th of May) took the major role of insecticide effectiveness expression for controlling pea weevil. Further trial for selecting insecticides among organophosphates to control pea weevil in lab was conducted and every organophosphate insecticide tested was very effective to pea weevil even at the concentration of one forth of its recommending concentration.

The researches with pesticides in soil were divided several categories such as run off from soil surface, adsorption and desorption in soil, leaching through soil, degradation and decomposition studies, fates in soil, monitoring survey and development of analytical procedures and so on. In this paper it was reviewed that the research results published in Korean journals since 1996, in connection with the former review as 'Evaluation on the effects of pesticide residues to agroecosystem in Korea'.
