Dynamic Range Reconstruction Algorithm for Smart Phone Camera Pulse Measurement Robust to Light Condition

Recently, handy pulse measurement method was introduced by using smart phone camera. However, measured values are not consistent with the variations of external light conditions, because the external light interfere with dynamic range of captured pulse image. Thus, adaptive dynamic range reconstruction algorithm is proposed to conduct pulse measurement robust to light condition. The minimum and maximum values for dynamic ranges of green and blue channels are adjusted to appropriate values for pulse measurement. In addition, sigmoid function based curve is applied to adjusted dynamic range. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm conducts suitably dynamic range reconstruction of pulse image for the interference of external light sources.
Development of Application for Preventing Smart-phone Syndrome

As smart phone became popular, its excessive uses cause adverse effects called smart-phone syndrome such as Turtle-neck syndrome in physical side and smart-phone addiction in mental aspects. Turtle-neck syndrome incurred by incorrect posture when you watch smart-phone, which causes a serious health problems. However, these syndromes can be detected by gyro-sensor and timer, and prevented by correcting the posture and halting the function with smart-phone application (App). Thus, this paper proposes App that helps user to realize bad posture and addiction to smart-phone, and to acquire the correct habit by inducing user to stretch neck or to stop operation with warning message. If we tried to adjust bad posture and addiction in using smart-phone through this application, the social losses from smart-phone syndrome would be minimized as a result.
Check4Urine: Smartphone-based Portable Urine-analysis System

Recently, a few image-processing based mobile urine testers have actively been studied since the urine-analysis result can be available to the user in real time immediately after the test is done. However, the accuracy of test result can be severely degraded due to variable illumination environments and a variety of manners to capture the image with a camera embedded in the smartphone according to different users. This paper proposes the Check4Urine system, a novel smartphone-based portable urine-analysis tester and provides three techniques to improve such a performance degradation problem robust to various test environments and disturbances, which are the compensation algorithm to correct the varying illumination effect, an urine strip detection algorithm robust to edge loss of the object image, and the color decision algorithm based on the pre-processed reference table. Experimental results show that the proposed Check4Urine system increases the accuracy of urine-analysis by 20-50% at various test conditions, compared with the existing image-processing based mobile urine tester.

The quality of medical treatment can be promoted by transmitting high-definition medical images and sharing these images. The high speed transmission network is a requirement for the ultra high-definition media. A high quality medical research and education can be provided by connecting resources and media-data through the superhigh speed research network. Network bandwidth for 4K media transmission generated with Lambda network technology.
UWB Radar and Non-contact Polysomnography

The number of people who are suffering from chronic sleep disorder has been growing dramatically in modern era. In order to diagonse the sleep disorder, sleep doctors perform polysomnography: Patients sleep with attaching several vital sign sensors on their body, and doctors monitor the patients in order to find the exact reason of the sleep disorder. Typical polysmonography makes patients sleep with several sensors on their bodies, which prevents the patients from making a comfortable sleep. Furthermore, it is impossible to have a long-term monitoring since the measurements should be done in sleep hosiptal within a few hours. In order to tackle these problems in the typical polysomnography, we envision the development of a non-contact long-term home polysomnography system using UWB radar and related technologies such as multi-modal signal processing.
Development of a Collapse-sensing Phone and Collapse Recognition Algorithm

To deal with the emergency of the solitary aged people, we have developed a collapse-sensing phone, in which a collapse sensor, a GPS receiving chipset and a CDMA sending chipset are included. The general cellular phone is somewhat expensive communication device using sound and characters, but the collapse-sensing phone is a cheaper and popular version. If the collapse sensor recognizes a certain of collapse of the aged people, CDMA sending chipset will send the location of the phone which is received from satellite by GPS receiving chipset. In this paper, a collapse recognition algorithm which is developed by using much experimental data, will be introduced to explain how to recognize the real collapse from fast sitting or immediate standing after collapse. Once a true collapse is ecognized, the phone-ID and the coordinate will be sent to the server of administrative office via CDMA network. And the position of emergency will be displayed on the GIS with the rescue center.
A Fast Interest Point Detection Method in SURF Algorithm

In this paper, we propose a fast interest point detection method using SURF algorithm. Since the SURF algorithm needs a great computations to detect the interest points and obtain the corresponding descriptors, it is not suitable for real-time based applications. In order to overcome this problem, the interest point detection step is parallelized by OpenMP and SIMD based on analysis of the scale space representation process and localization one in the step. The simulation results demonstrate that processing speed is enhanced about 55% by applying the proposed method.
