A File System Architecture for Enriched Metadata in Portable Multimedia Devices

In this paper, we developed a file system architecture for portable multimedia devices. To enhance user convenience, the information about the stored files should be easily retrieved and organized. We defined NMD (Networked MetaData), which can organize the files in networked fashion by attaching user-defined attributes and relation between files. The NMD is stored in flash memory to utilize its nonvolatile property and low-power consumption, while multimedia files are stored in hard disk, an inexpensive mass storage. The experimental implementation showed that this architecture was able to save about 10% power compared to the hard disk NMD-store.

Novel Home Network QoS Mechanism for the High-Definition IPTV Service based on Multicast Traffic

The home network has been revitalized due to the emergence of the high-speed broadband network and explosive increases of the home network services. Especially multicast based high-definition (HD) IPTV service is on high demand from both Internet service provider (ISP) and users. In order to provide high quality HD IPTV service without packet loss and delay, the ISP utilizes various network QoS mechanisms. Due to the misleading fact, that the home gateway is considered as an end terminal in terms of the ISP's viewpoint, the ISPs can not guarantee the end-to-end QoS within the scope of the current home network architecture. Therefore, an independent QoS guaranteed mechanism should be considered within the home network domain. As the home gateway manages both private home and public access network within the home network, we propose and implement a novel QoS mechanism for the multicast based HD IPTV service over the home gateway. In order to provide QoS guaranteed HD IPTV service, the proposed mechanism classifies the packets, manages home network bandwidth resources, and executes call admission control using the channel join message. Also, we utilize layer 2 multicast packet forwarding scheme to improve the overall performance of the home network services. Through the experiments of implementing the multicast based HD IPTV services, we will verify the efficiency of the proposed mechanism.
Design of 868/915MHz SoC System Architecture for Wireless Personal Area Network

According to development of wireless communication technologies, we need not only high data rate but low data rate system of low power consumption. This low data rate system is utilized in the field of home automation, health care, sensoring and monitoring, etc. IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN system is the best choice for realizing ubiquitous networking system. In this paper SoC Architecture for IEEE 802.15.4 Low Rate WPAN is designed. IEEE 802.15.4 Low Rate WPAN system serves the functions and realization of home area network. We propose the SoC architecture for 868/915MHz frequency band of IEEE 802.15.4 Low Rate WPAN system. The key issue is to design SoC architecture which provides the function of Low Rate WPAN system to meet the requirement of IEEE 802.15.4 standards.
Audio Data Transmission Based on The Wavelet Transform for ZigBee Applications

A transform coding scheme for the transmission of audio data in ZigBee based wireless personal area networks (WPAN) is presented in this paper. Here, wavelet transform is exploited to encode the features of audio data included mainly in the low frequency region. As a result, it is confirmed that the presented scheme recovers the original audio signals much accurately while it transmits the binary data compressed as 37.5% of the entire data generated without coding scheme. Especially, the mean-squared error between the recovered and original audio data approaches
when the signal-to-noise power ratio is sufficiently high. Hence, the presented coding scheme which exploits the wavelet transform is possibly applied for high-quality audio data transmission services in a small-scale sensor network based on ZigBee. Such a result is considered to be applicable as a basic material to update the technical specifications and develop the applications of ZigBee in WPANs.
Performance Evaluation of Real-time Voice Traffic over IEEE 802.15.4 Beacon-enabled Mode

IEEE 802.15.4 specification which defines low-rate wireless personal area network(LR-WPAN) has application to home or building automation, remote control and sensing, intelligent management, environmental monitoring, and so on. Recently, it has been considered as an alternative technology to provide multimedia services such as automation via voice recognition, wireless headset and wireless camera for surveillance. In order to evaluate capability of voice traffic on the IEEE 802.15.4 LR-WPAN, we supposed two scenarios, voice traffic only and coexistence of voice and sensing traffic. For both cases we examined delay and packet loss rate in case of with and without acknowledgement, and various beacon period varying with beacon and superframe order values. In LR-WPAN with voice devices only, total 5 voice devices could be applicable and in the other case, i.e., coexisted cases of voice and sensor devices, a voice device was able to coexist with about 60 sensor devices.
Resource Allocation scheme for WiMedia UWB MAC

Wimedia UWB(Ultra-Wideband) platform provides data rates up to 480Mbps in WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network). Wimedia conformant devices access to the channels through superframe concept for communications. As the channel resource is limited, the optimal channel time required for each device needs to be estimated to share the resource efficiently among the devices. In this paper, we propose a scheme to estimate the required channel time in a super frame to satisfy the QoS of the application on a device. The channel time is estimated from the service rate which is computed from the TSPEC of the application. In the process of the estimation, we take the frame overhead for data transmission as well as the overhead due to the acknowledgement scheme, preamble, and MDSU size into consideration. We also analyze and compare the throughputs for different acknowledgement scheme, preamble, and MDSU size situations. The estimated channel time required for a given service rate is allocated in the unit of MAS(Medium Access Slot).

In this paper, we have propose a preamble structure and synchronization/channel estimation method for UWB-MIMO which has 960Mbps transmit rate. The proposed structure is a compatible preamble structure for synchronization/channel estimation used by MIMO in MB-OFDM(Multi-Band OFDM) systems that are one of the standard systems of MBOA. The system is compatible with MB-OFDM using the proposed preamble structure. In this paper, we argue the problem in receiver part used by MIMO technique. And we simulate the proposed preamble for using synchronization/channel estimation. The simulation result shows the same performance compared with single receiver antenna.
