This paper describes the SVC-based media adaptation system which can adapt video contents optimally to various consumption environments in an IP-based transmission scenario. As key technologies, we will present scalable video coding, SVC-based adaptive media transmission, and SVC-based adaptation signaling technology.
Development of Electronic Content Guide (ECG) Technology for Personalized T-DMB Service

The personalized service becomes an important role in consuming the mobile broadcasting contents due to the lack of television watching time in the mobile environment. The paper discusses the technology development of ECG (electronic content guide) for personalized broadcasting service such as contents tracking, time shifting and contents scraping according to user preference.
Digital Satellite Broadcasting Hybrid Service Trend

In today's Pay TV market, the importance of TPS for Pay TV operators is increasing rapidly. IP Hybrid services are essential for satellite broadcasters. This paper explains the various digital satellite broadcasting service trend, especially IP based hybrid service approach of satellite broadcasters(BskyB, CanalSat, DirecTV, etc.). Also this paper introduces SkyLife IP hybrid business approach to achieve a strong leadership in Pay TV market and related IP convergence market in Korea.
Open IPTV Services over NGN

Internet protocol television (IPTV), one of the most emerging services, offers multimedia streaming services with security, reliability, and relevant quality of service (QoS)/quality of experience (QoE). It provides added values to all the involving players and also brings technical and business challenges to them. For IPTV services, we expect to adopt the next generation network (NGN) environment for high quality and the Web technologies for personalization to meet the customer's necessity. Web can provide an open, flexible, and agile platform. Therefore, in this paper, we propose personalized IPTV services based on Web-based open platform in NGN environment and present functional architecture for Web-based personalized IPTV services. Technical issues for deploying the proposed IPTV services using Web are also provided. The objective of this paper is to analyze the critical architectural issues for developing viable and feasible networking platform models for personalized IPTV services.
A Key Management Scheme for IPTV CAS in DOCSIS 3.0 Security System

A novel scheme is presented for Traffic Encryption Key (TEK) rekeying with low communication overhead for an Internet Protocol television (IPTV) conditional access system over Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specifications (DOCSIS) 3.0. The proposed scheme utilizes the DOCSIS system synchronization for periodic TEK rekeying instead of a conventional TEK rekeying negotiation process. Analysis shows that the communication overhead is only 0.012 Kbps when TEK rekeying frequency is 1 second.
Networking Technologies for IPTV2.0 Service

The convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication services is being accelerated by broadband networks, digital broadcasting and Web2.0. This paper describes the definition and service characteristics of IPTV as a representative of broadcasting and telecommunication convergence services. Especially, the changes of infrastructure and technology for IPTV2.0 are addressed in terms of the service features of mobility, intelligence and participation. IPTV2.0 shall be characterized by the open IPTV service based on Web2.0 and the mobile IPTV service over the heterogeneous networks employing various wireless/wired access technologies. The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and Service Delivery Platform (SDP) technologies are increasingly considered to support the personalization and openness. The mobility management technology is being evolved to provide QoS-guaranteed mobile communication services to users at anytime and anywhere. IPTV2.0 services and platforms are also anticipated to be core components to achieve knowledge-based ubiquitous society. IPTV2.0 contents are required to be integrated with the enhanced metadata to efficiently support search, selection, convergence and delivery of the contents. Moreover, those contents shall be enhanced to provide the scalable services which is adaptable to the network status and user preferences. Therefore, the networking technologies for IPTV2.0 should tightly cooperate with application services and adaptive contents. Those technologies will be developed to construct the ubiquitous content service platform considering the evolution of networks and various converged services.
Personalized Interstitial Content Service for Second TV

The 'Anytime, Anywhere' services have been the biggest topic in the recent digital broadcasting research area. The related applications for the Anytime and Anywhere Services are as follows: the personalized broadcasting based on the PVR (Personal Video Recorder) for the Anytime Services, and the DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting), the mobile devices supporting the wireless network and the Second TV and so on for the anywhere services. The personalized broadcasting has been researched on the one of the killer applications in the various broadcasting environment - the ground wave broadcasting, the satellite broadcasting, IPTV and CATV broadcasting suchlike. The applied contents of the personalized broadcasting have advanced from the main contents for the broadcasting to the interstitial contents like advertisements and coupons, the personalized interstitial broadcasting needs to develop the technology about the generation, storing and management of the interstitial metadata. but, the personalized broadcasting has the limitation that the TV environment is somewhat difficult to support the personalized broadcasting individually, because all family usually share the main TV at home. The Second TV is possible to solve the environmental limitation. This paper designs and develops the static set top box at home, the Second TV and their multimedia streaming techniques for the personalized broadcasting of the contents including the interstitial contents.
An Implementation of the DSP-based Digital Radio Modiale Receiver

In this paper, a software-based Digital Radio Modiale(DRM) receiver is implemented on a Digital Signal Processor(DSP). DRM stands for the European radio broadcasting standard to bring AM radio into digital radio, designed to work at frequencies below 30MHz. DRM can offer various data services such as text messaging and slideshow services as well as audio services. The DRM receiver implemented on the Tensilica DSP core performs well at low signal strength indication of -102dBm.
Development of an Autonomous Navigation System for Unmanned Ground Vehicle

This paper describes the design and implementation of an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) and also estimates how well autonomous navigation and remote control of UGV can be performed through the optimized arbitration of several sensor data, which are acquired from vision, obstacle detection, positioning system, etc. For the autonomous navigation, lane detection and tracing, global positioning, and obstacle avoidance are necessarily required. In addition, for the remote control, two types of experimental environments are established. One is to use a commercial racing wheel module, and the other is to use a haptic device that is useful for a user application based on virtual reality. Experimental results show that autonomous navigation and remote control of the designed UGV can be achieved with more effectiveness and accuracy using the proper arbitration of sensor data and navigation plan.
Design of a Floating Point Processor for Nonlinear Functions on an Embedded FPGA

This paper presents the hardware design of a 32bit floating point based processor. The processor can perform nonlinear functions such as sinusoidal functions, exponential functions, and other mathematical functions. Using the Taylor series and Newton - Raphson method, nonlinear functions are approximated. The processor is actually embedded on an FPGA chip and tested. The numerical accuracy of the functions is compared with those computed by the MATLAB and confirmed the performance of the processor.
