Development of a Monitoring System Based on the Cooperation of Image and Sensor Information

This study proposes a monitoring system by cooperating the image information and the sensor information in a sensor network system. The monitoring system proposed in this study is divided into internal spaces, such as offices and laboratories, and external spaces including other various spaces. In the internal spaces, motions in objects are detected through cameras while some peripherals like lights are controlled by analyzing some temperature, humidity, and illuminance data detected by sensor nodes. In the external spaces, it is to watch certain intruders to the internal spaces through the interested region for exceptional time by installing cameras, motion detectors, and body detectors in such interested regions. In the results of the test that was applied to a practically limited environment by implementing some interfaces for the proposed system, it was considered that it is possible to watch surroundings effectively using the image information obtained from cameras and sensor information acquisited from sensor nodes.
Voice Recognition Based on Adaptive MFCC and Neural Network

In this paper, we propose an enhanced voice recognition algorithm using adaptive MFCC(Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients) and neural network. Though it is very important to extract voice data from the raw data to enhance the voice recognition ratio, conventional algorithms are subject to deteriorating voice data when they eliminate noise within special frequency band. Differently from the conventional MFCC, the proposed algorithm imposed bigger weights to some specified frequency regions and unoverlapped filterbank to enhance the recognition ratio without deteriorating voice data. In simulation results, the proposed algorithm shows better performance comparing with MFCC since it is robust to variation of the environment.
SDL-OPNET Model Conversion Technique for the Development of Communication Protocols with an Integrated Model Design Approach

Although both functional verification and performance evaluation are necessary for the development of effective and reliable communication systems, they have been often performed independently; by functional modeling with formal language tools and by performance modeling with professional network performance evaluation tools, respectively. Separate and repeated modeling of one system, however, would often result in cost increase and inconsistency between the models. This paper proposes an integrated model design approach in order to overcome this problem that evaluates the performance of a communication protocol designed in SDL with SDL-OPNET model conversion. The proposed technique generates OPNET skeleton code from Tau-generated C code of the SDL model by analyzing the relations between SDL and OPNET models. IEEE 802.2 LLC protocol was used as an example of model conversion to show the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed technique.
Design of Efficient Memory Architecture for Coeff_Token Encoding in H.264/AVC Video Coding Standard

In this paper, we propose an efficient memory architecture for coeff_token encoding in H.264/AVC standard. The VLCTs used to encode the coeff_token syntax element are implemented with the memory. In general, the size of memory must be reduced because it affects the cost and operation speed of the system. Based on the analysis for the codewords in VLCTs, new memory architecture is designed in this paper. The proposed memory architecture results in about 24% memory saving, compared to the conventional memory architecture.

Architecture of Signal Processing Module for Multi-Target Detection in Automotive FMCW Radar

The FMCW(Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) radar possesses range-velocity ambiguity to identify the correct combination of beat frequencies for each target in the multi-target situation. It can lead to ghost targets and missing targets, and it can reduce the detection probability. In this pap er, we propose an effective identification algorithm for the correct pairs of beat frequencies and the signal processing hardware architecture to effectively support the algorithm. First, using the correlation of the detected up- and down-beat frequencies and Doppler frequencies, the possible combinations are determined. Then, final pairing algorithm is completed with the power spectrum density of the correlated up- and down-beat frequencies. The proposed hardware processor has the basic architecture consisting of beat-frequency registers, pairing table memory, and decision unit. This method will be useful to improve the radar detection probability and reduce the false alarm rate.
Real-Time Task Scheduling Algorithm for Automotive Electronic System

Due to the increasing amount of electronic control system in a vehicle, the automotive software is increasingly sophisticated and complicated. Therefore it may be faced a time critical problem caused by its complexity. In order to solve such problems, the automotive electronic system can use a real-time scheduling mechanism based on predictability. We first consider the standard specification of the AUTOSAR OS and uC/OS-II such as its scheduling theory with time determinism. In this paper, we propose the scheduling algorithm to be conformable to a conformance class of OSEK/VDX specification. Algorithm analysis shows that our scheduling algorithm outperforms an existing Trampoline OS by intuition.
