Real-Time Scheduling for Periodic and Aperiodic Tasks on Automotive Electronic System

We propose power-saving real-time scheduling method for mixed task sets which consist of both time-based periodic and event-based aperiodic tasks in the automotive operating system. In this system, we have to pursue maximization of power-saving using the slack time estimation and minimization of response time of aperiodic tasks simultaneously. However, since these two goals conflict each other, one has to make a compromise between them according to the given application domain. In this paper, we find the adjustment factor which gives better response time of aperiodic tasks with slight power consumption increase. The adjustment factor denotes the gravity of response time for aperiodic tasks. We apply the ccEDF scheduling for time-based periodic tasks and then calculate new utilization to be applied to the adjustment factor. In this paper, we suggest the lccEDF algorithm to make a tradeoff between the two goals by systematically adjusting the factor. Simulation results show that our approach is excellent for variety of task sets.
An Implementation of The Embedded-Based Multi Mode Receiver Module & Demuxer

In this paper, Multi Mode Receiver Module is designed in one H/W module for Multi-mode Digital Broadcasting. Multi mode means Digital TV, Mobile TV and Digital Radio on the Broadcasting. and T-DMB, DAB(+), ISDB-T and DVB-T standard. Our Module can receive various broadcasting signal such as ISDB-T, DVB-T and DAB. The Multi mode Receiver Module & demuxer was implemented using the one SoC Chip has good performances to receive the multi mode signals as well as standard interface such as SPI, to connect the main CPU Unit.
Development of Real-Data Motion Sensor Emulator

This paper describes the development of an open source motion sensor emulator. It helps developers to understand the motion sensor and its data better. Through this emulator, the realtime or stored motion sensor data can be applied to the applications that utilize motion sensors. The data of motion sensors which include accelerometer sensor, magnetic field sensor, gyro sensor, GPS, and so on, can be collected by using smart phones or motion sensors. We also describe a visualizer which shows various graphs, video and 3D animations based on the data sent by the emulator. It helps developers to understand motion sensors and how to use the sensors. The developed emulator is compatible with Android sensor simulator.
An Image-Based Remote Snow Height Measurement System using a USN

In conventional methods for measuring snow height, a graduated pole is installed on ground in an area of interest and the snow height is manually read from the pole. Recently, automated snow height measurement systems have been introduced to improve the conventional methods. The automated measurement systems, however, are quite expensive since they use the reflection of ultrasonic waves or laser beams. In addition, it is not easy to move the location of the automated measure systems. This paper proposes a snow height measurement system equipped with image sensors and wireless communication capability via a USN and the Internet. The proposed system has a resolution of 5 cm and easy to deploy without difficulties, which can be usefully used to monitor unforseen local snowfalls.
A Level 2 Middleware for Steel Plant Control

In this paper, we proposed a level 2 middleware with common services for controlling steel plants, which is named POSMOS. POSMOS supports eight middleware services currently, but, this paper described in detail two representative services of the common services: file service and external communication service and their respective measured performance. In the experiment section, we described the performance of the two representative services and a case using our middleware which shows better response time than the existing commercial middleware by about 32%.
Implementation of An Embedded Platform-Based ATSC Mobile Broadcasting Multiplexer

In this paper, an ATSC(Advanced Television Standard Committee)-M/H(Mobile/Handheld) multiplexer is designed and implemented using an embedded Linux based hardware platform. The ATSC-M/H multiplexer is composed of a CPU(Central Processor Unit), an FPGA(Field-Programmable Gate Array), ASI(Asynchronous Serial Interface)/SMPTE310(Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers310) interface board, and a GPS(Global Position System) clock processing block. The main functions of the ATSC-M/H multiplexer executed in the CPU and FPGA are described. The operation of the ATSC-M/H multiplexer is verified by processing its broadcast signal on a commercial receiver analyzer.
Design and Verification of High-Performance Parallel Processor Hardware for JPEG Encoder

As the use of mobile multimedia devices is increasing in the recent year, the needs for high-performance multimedia processors are increasing. In this regard, we propose a SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) based parallel processor that supports high-performance multimedia applications with low energy consumption. The proposed parallel processor consists of 16 processing elements(PEs) and operates on a 3-stage pipelining. Experimental results for the JPEG encoding algorithm indicate that the proposed parallel processor outperforms conventional parallel processors in terms of performance and energy efficiency. In addition, the proposed parallel processor architecture was developed and verified with verilog HDL and a FPGA prototype system.
A Novel Weighting Factor Method in NLOS Environment

Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) error is the most common and also a major source of errors in wireless location system. A novel weighting factor (NWF) method is presented in this paper, based on the RSS(Received Signal Strength) measurements, path loss model and Circular Disk of Scatterers Model (CDSM). The proposed positioning method effectively weighted the TOA distance measurements for each Base Station (BS). Simulation results show that the proposed method efficiently weighted the distance measurements and achieve higher localization accuracy than that of Linear Line of Position (LLOP) and Believable Factor Algorithm (BFA).
