An Emotional Communication System Using Emotion Recognition of Users
Cho, Myeon-gyun ;
IEMEK Journal of Embedded Systems and Applications, volume 6, issue 4, 2011, Pages 201~207
This paper introduces a novel concept of 'Emotional Communication' for future smart phone. While traditional information based communication technologies focus on how to precisely transmit the content of message, emotional communication is intended to support and augment social relationship among people and to comfort the user to be happy. In this paper, we propose future communication services and core technologies which can estimate emotional desire of users and respond to the desire to be happy with connectedness and consolation from peoples. Firstly, we introduce emotion recognition techniques to estimate emotional desire of users. At second, the emotional responding services are categorized to four parts and the details are shown. Lastly we propose the process to implement emotional communication system and the main techniques to fulfill the system requirements for future smart-phone services.

This study suggests a Healthcare System for elderly and disabled who have mobility impairment and use a wheelchair for long time. Seating long time in a wheelchair without reducing pressure causes high risk of developing pressure sores. Pressure sores come with great deal of pain and often lead to develop complication. Not only it takes time and effort to treat pressure sores but also increases medical expenses. Therefore, we will develop a device to help to prevent pressure sores by measuring pressure distribution while seating in a wheelchair and wirelessly send information to user device to check pressure distribution in real time. The equipment to measure body pressure is composed of FSR sitting mat which is a sensor measuring part and an user terminal which is a monitoring part. The designed mat is matrix formed FSR sensor to measure pressure. The sensor send measured data to the controller which is connected to the end of the mat, and then the collected data are sent to an user terminal through a bluetooth. Developing a pressure monitoring system will help to prevent those who have mobility impairment to manage pressure sores and furthermore relieve their burden of medical expenses.

Mobile phones, which were used for simply calling and sending text messages, have recently moved to application-oriented digital devices such as smart phones and tablet phones. The rapid increase of smart and tablet phones which can offer advanced ability and run a variety of applications based on Java requires various digital multimedia content activities. These days, there are more than 2.2 billions of Christians around the world. Among them, more than 300 millions of people live in Asian, and all of them have and read the bible. If there is an application for the bible which translates from English to their own languages, it could be very helpful. With this reason, this paper proposes a multi-bible application that supports various languages. To do this, we implemented an algorithm that recognize sentences in the bible as word by word. The algorithm is essentially composed of the following three functions: tokenizing sentences in the bible into word by word (word tokenization), recognizing words by using touch event (word recognition), and translating the selected words to the desired language. Consequently, the proposed multi-bible application supports language translation efficiently by touching words of sentences in the bible.

A novel ecosystem surrounding developing, publishing and using of smartphone applications is driving a new paradigm in software industry. Thousands of applications are newly published on appstores everyday. However more than 97% of them happen to be downloaded less than 1,000 times and resultingly disappeared out of user's interesting. It means that so many efforts and time of developers are vanished. In this paper, we proposed a new architecture to increase code reusability of Android applications so that the time and efforts to develop new applications can be shortened. The proposed architecture, an extended Intent mechanism, supports sharing of Android components among the applications registered in different servers as well as in the same Android device. We designed a new Intent mechanism by extending the PackageManager service and by adopting a new class for ServerPackageManager service.

Recently, system virtualization has been applied to consumer electronics (CE) such as smart mobile phones. Although multi-core processors have become a viable solution for complex applications of consumer electronics, the issue of utilizing multi-core resources in the virtualization layer has not been researched sufficiently. In this paper, we present a new hypervisor design and implementation for multi-core CE devices. We concretely describe virtualization methods for a multi-core processor and multi-core-related subsystems. We also analyze bottlenecks of network performance in a virtualization environment that supports multimedia applications and propose an efficient virtual interrupt distributor. Our new multi-core hypervisor improves network performance by 5.5 times as compared to a hypervisor without the virtual interrupt distributor.

A FFT/IFFT processor is the key component for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems based IEEE 802.11n wireless local area network (WLAN). There exists many radix algorithms according to the structure of butterfly as FFT sub-module, each has the pros and cons on hardware complexity. Here, mixed radix algorithms for 64 and 128 FFT/IFFT processors are proposed, which reduce hardware complexity by using mixture of radix-23 and radix-4 algorithms. The proposed algorithm finish calculation within 3.2
in order to meet IEEE 802.11n standard requirements and it has less hardware complexity compared with conventional algorithms.

A user desktop service can be made available on internet or local area network with the help of virtualization and cloud technologies. The service is usually called a virtual desktop or a desktop cloud. However, a user interface is limited to I/O capabilities of a user's mobile terminal. In order to enhance a user interface on a remote virtual desktop, it is important to connect full-featured I/O devices which are founded locally. Our previous work called SoD (System-on- Demand) has proposed a technique to associate local full-featured I/O devices with a remote virtual desktop in Xen. On the technique, it is required to install a SoD client agent in a user's mobile terminal for connecting a remote virtual desktop. In this paper, we propose a new framework called Web-SoD that does not require any explicit installation to make SoD service available. The SoD client agent is provided by the web technology so that the agent can be installed transparently, and the platform independency is also achieved. Due to insufficient network socket performance of current web technologies, we extend Native Client (NaCl) proposed by Google to support a network functionality by modifying a NaCl library and a service runtime. With conducted experiment, we show that the network extension supports a full socket functionality over the compromised overhead on the web environment.
A Security-Enhanced Storing Method for the Voice Data in the Aircraft

In this paper, we propose a security-enhanced storing method for the voice data obtained during the flight. When an emergency occurs during flight, the flight data in the storage device such as DTS or Blackbox can be exposed to antagonist or enemy. Currently, zeroize function is embedded in these devices in order to prevent this situation. However, this could not be operated if the system is malfunctioned or the pilot is wounded in the emergency. In order to solve this problem, the voice data compressed by the ADPCM is encrypted in the proposed method composed of the AES algorithm and a reordering method. The simulation results show that the security for the voice date is further enhanced due to the proposed method.
