Development of Terrain-Adaptive Attitude Controller for Hybrid Mobile Platform with Wheel & Track

This paper describes terrain-adaptive attitude controller for a hybrid mobile platform which operates in wheel & track mode. The wheel mode of the hybrid mobile platform allows quick driving performance in the flatland, while the track mode provides adaptive movement in the rough ground or stairway. The switching of the platform between two modes is automatically controlled by attitude controller algorithm. In addition, in the track mode, the platform automatically adjusts its attitude angle to overcome the obstacles in front. This paper demonstrates the attitude controller for the aforementioned wheel-track hybrid mobile platform in order to overcome terrain obstacles by using an adaptive method. The driving performance of the hybrid mobile platform has been tested and verified in various surrounding environments in both wheel and track mode. Further, this paper presents the experiments by using the track structure of mobile platform on forming adaptive attitude under various types of obstacles. The practicability and effectiveness of the proposed attitude controller of the platform has been demonstrated in urban building and a test-bed.
Ranging the Distance Between Wireless Sensor Nodes Using the Deviation Correction Method of Received Signal Strength

Based on the Zigbee-based wireless sensor network, I suggest the way to reduce errors between the short distance, improving the accuracy of the presumed distance by revising the deviation of RSSI(Received Signal Strength Indication) values is to estimate the distance using only the RF signal power without the additional hardware. In general, the graph measured by RSSI values shows the proximity values which are ideally reduced in proportion to the distance under the free outdoor space in which LOS(Line-Of-Sight) is guaranteed. However, if the result of the received RSSI values are each substituted to the formula, it can produce a larger margin of error and less accurate measurement since it is based upon the premise that this free space is not affected by reflected waves or obstacles caused by the ground and electronic jamming engendered by the environment. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to reduce the margin of errors between the distances and to measure the proximity values with the ideal type of graph by suggesting the way to revise the received RSSI values in the light of these reflected waves or obstacles and the electronic jamming. In conclusion, this study proves that errors are reduced by comparing the proposed deviation correction method to the revised RSSI value.

Efficient arithmetic design is essential to implement error correcting codes and cryptographic applications over finite fields. This article presents an efficient
multiplier in GF(
) using a polynomial representation. The proposed multiplier produces the result in m clock cycles with a propagation delay of two AND gates and two XOR gates using O(
) area-time complexity. The proposed multiplier is highly modular, and consists of regular blocks of AND and XOR logic gates. Especially, exponentiation, inversion, and division are more efficiently implemented by applying
multiplication repeatedly rather than AB multiplication. As compared to related works, the proposed multiplier has lower area-time complexity, computational delay, and execution time and is well suited to VLSI implementation.
Database Investigation Algorithm for High-Accuracy based Indoor Positioning

In this paper, we proposed Wireless LAN (WLAN) localization method that enhances database construction based on weighting factor and analyse the characteristic of the WLAN received signals. The weighting factor plays a key role as it determines the importance of Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) value from number of received signals (frequency). The fingerprint method is the most widely used method in WLAN-based positioning methods because it has high location accuracy compare to other indoor positioning methods. The fingerprint method has different location accuracies which depend on training phase and positioning phase. In training phase, intensity of RSSI is measured under the various. Conventional systems adapt average of RSSI samples in a database construction, which is not quite accurate due to variety of RSSI samples. In this paper, we analyse WLAN RSSI characteristic from anechoic chamber test, and analyze the causes of various distributions of RSSI and its influence on location accuracy in indoor environments. In addition, we proposed enhanced weighting factor algorithm for accurate database construction and compare location accuracy of proposed algorithm with conventional algorithm by computer simulations and tests.
Design of the Protocol for Wireless Charging of Mobile Emotional Sensing Device

In order to supply emotion service depending on user's emotional change in a mobile environment, various researches have been carried. This paper discusses a protocol for wireless charging and an embedded platform of the mobile emotional sensing device which supports that. Wireless charging process relieves user's vexatious task to charge the emotional sensing device. To support wireless charging, there are one basestation and several mobile devices. Basestation coordinates and controls the devices over wireless communication, as well as supplies energy. For 1:N communication we defines the network whose superframe is classified into four categories: a network join superframe, a charging request superframe, a charging superframe and an inactive superframe. Physical layer provides how to supply energy to the devices and communicate physically. Mobile device is equipped with energy charged circuits, which correspond with the defined energy supplying method, as well as bidirectional communication circuits. Mobile device monitors and analyzes its own battery status, and is able to send a request packet to basestation. Therefore, it can be charged before its battery is exhausted without user's perception.
A Green LED Sensitivity Lighting System Using Smart Phone

This paper introduces a novel concept of 'A Green LED Sensitivity Lighting System' which can automatically estimate QoS(quality of service) and emotional requirements of user using smart phone. And it can intelligently control ambient illumination lamp to conserve electric energy and to satisfy human sensitivity. The proposed system has 4 control modes; emotional lighting, smart lighting, green lighting and realistic lighting modes in order to comfort man's emotion, to maximize work efficiency, to save energy consumption and to make the entertainment more fun, respectively. When we choose green lighting mode for indoor office situations, an elaborate simulation shows that the proposed system with home network can reduce the energy by 50% compared to conventional light control system with a fixed time-based switching.
Implementation of Open Source Embedded Software Educational Integrated Development Environment Using Portable Game Console

In this paper we describe the integrated development environment for embedded software education. Our environment uses a cheap and widely available portable game console, Nintendo DS-lite. We have integrated open source development tools, and have implemented download shell, remote debugger. The results are all open source, and were used for university class for real embedded software education.
