A Unified App Architecture for Plug & Play of Smart Phone USB Sensor's

Performance of smart phones has increased to conduct simple PC functions that has become essential to modern people. With the development of smart phones, not only limited inner sensors but various sensors can be connected through USB. However, there is problem that app needs to downloaded when using each sensor. In this paper, a smart phone unified app structure for USB sensor Plug&Play is presented. The structure was designed to download web pages to use various sensors in one app. Unified app communicated with the platform through ADK accessory protocol and implements structure of delivering sensor ID to the web server and downloading device driver, web page. By measurement test, it was confirmed that download time of web page in unified app was 10 times faster than original download time of original app. By managing various sensors by one app, the app is searched every time the sensor changes in which there is no need for downloading several apps.
A Research of the Compatibility for the HybridApp-Based Smart-Learning Contents in the Heterogeneous Smart Platform

With the development and general use of a variety of Android/iOS-based smart phones and smart pads, the existing e-learning contents need to be changed in such a way that they can be carried out on different smart device platforms. This paper shows what changes are needed for that aim, and, in particular, for the compatibility of different platforms by designing and implementing Android/iOS-based smart learning contents in the form of a hybrid app. This paper will hopefully help you consider what elements are required to develop smart-learning contents on a variety of platforms for mobile devices.
Implementation and Verification of a Multi-Core Processor including Multimedia Specific Instructions

In this paper, we present a multi-core processor including multimedia specific instructions to process multimedia data efficiently in the mobile environment. Multimedia specific instructions exploit subword level parallelism (SLP), while the multi-core processor exploits data level parallelism (DLP). These combined parallelisms improve the performance of multimedia processing applications. The proposed multi-core processor including multimedia specific instructions is implemented and tested using a Xilinx ISE 10.1 tool and SoCMaster3 testbed system including Vertex 4 FPGA. Experimental results using a fire detection algorithm show that multimedia specific instructions outperform baseline instructions in the same multi-core architecture in terms of performance (1.2x better), energy efficiency (1.37x better), and area efficiency (1.23x better).
Fast Laser Triangular Measurement System using ARM and FPGA

Recently ARM processor's processing power has been increasing rapidly as it has been applied to consumer electronics products. Because of its computing power and low power consumption, it is used to various embedded systems.( including vision processing systems.) Embedded linux that provides well-made platform and GUI is also a powerful tool for ARM based embedded systems. So short period to develop is one of major advantages to the ARM based embedded system. However, for real-time date processing applications such as an image processing system, ARM needs additional equipments such as FPGA that is suitable to parallel processing applications. In this paper, we developed an embedded system using ARM processor and FPGA. FPGA takes time consuming image preprocessing and numerical algorithms needs floating point arithmetic and user interface are implemented using the ARM processor. Overall processing speed of the system is 60 frames/sec of VGA images.
Application Technologies of Smart Phone for Emotional Satisfaction and Mental Health-care of the Elderly

Considerations of how to facilitate aging-in-place(AIP) are becoming increasingly pertinent as care-givers are overwhelmed by an aging population. Aging friendly home-care services combined with IT can satisfy the needs of the elderly suffer from chronic diseases such as depression and dementia. Therefore, we propose future smart phone services and application technologies which can estimate emotional states of the aged and respond to the desire to be happy with mental health, connectedness and consolation from peoples. Firstly, we introduce depression measurement techniques to estimate the severity of depression using multiple sensors. At second, the emotional responding services are categorized to four parts and the details are described. Lastly, we propose the process to implement emotional communication and the application techniques(services) to fulfill the emotional satisfaction and mental healthcare for AIP using smart phone as a mediator.
Illuminance Dynamic Range Expansion using Gamma & Multi-Point Knee for Smart Phone Camera

The narrow dynamic range of most smart phone cameras is severely limited. It usually is narrower than the dynamic range of most scenes. So we proposes a illuminance dynamic range expansion using multi-point knee for smart phone camera. Such as logarithmic functions the proposed method compress the image sensor output signal. Additionally, the proposed method was merged into the gamma that is essential circuit for any cameras. To justifying multi-point knee effectiveness, we configure the control and quality evaluation system for smart phone camera module. Experimental results show that the lost information by cut off and saturated affectively reconstructed in darker and in brighter areas. Finally this methods have advantage to implement without any changing hardware for conventional smart phones.
A Study of Selective Indoor Positioning between Enhanced Time Difference of Arrival and Pattern Matching using Received Signal Strength Indicator

This paper researches location estimating method in CDMA system. Previously proposed positioning algorithms are difficult to estimate accurate position in indoor environments, and possible to limited position. This paper proposes enhanced algorithm using received PN pilot signals from base stations to enhance previous algorithms. For estimating position, we set the threshold value and use over the threshold value in received signals. After selecting signals, we estimate position using TDOA algorithm. And the cases which TDOA algorithm cannot use to estimate position, we use Pattern Matching algorithm. The proposed method system showed the improved performance in estimating parameters and locating positions by computer simulations.
Development of the Portable Weighing Scale Automatic Device for Disabled Wheelchair Users

Wheelchair users have a difficulty in managing their weight because there is lack of measure systems and even though the users have the system, it costs too much. Thus, purpose of this study is for developing the portable weight scale automatic device to help wheelchair users by monitoring their weight on the wheelchairs in real time. Portable weight scale automatic device composed by four strain gauges, and the device was connected with mobile phone so that wheelchair users were able to check their weight in real time. In order to evaluate the device performance, 10 normal subjects and 10 disabled subjects participated in this study. The subjects' truth weight and measured weight by the device are compared. . Difference between the truth weigh and the measured weigh were not statistically different. The reason for this error occurred is inaccuracy of the loadcell installation and calibration. If this problems get solved, the measured indicator is expected to help wheelchair users to manage their weight.
