Spectral Reflectivity on Geological Materials in Yangsan-Dongrae Fault Area

The study was performed to recognize the most preferable spectral chennels for discriminating geological materials using the portable radiometer. The portable radiometer covers the visible and short infrared regions from approximately 0.4 to 2.5 microns which are coincided with Landsat TM, and the rock samples used for the study are pyrophylites, andesites, granite, granodiorite and silicified sedimentary rocks which are collected in Yangsan-Dongrae fault area. The analysis of the rock sample provides a preliminary basis for determining the wavelength regions showing diagnostic spectral features and for discriminating hydrothermal altered rocks from the unaltered rocks. The measurement of spectral of spectral reflectance for the rock samples was carried out in the laboratory which environment condition such as temperature, light sources, and humidity are constant. The analysis of the measured data was based on correlation between the reflectance value of the rock samples, and the follow discriptions are output of the study. 1) Pyrophyllite shows absorption at 0.83
due to the oxidation of pyrite, and absorption at 2.22
due to OH. 2) The altered rocks have generally higher reflectance than the unaltered rocks. 3) The ratio mesurement of pyrophyllites shows strong absorption at band 5/6 and band 6/4(in Landsat TM 5/7, 7/4). The ratio 1/5(Landsat TM 1/5) may be useful to discriminate andesite from the granite.
Investigation of Some Influence of the Naktong River Water on Marine Environment in the Estuarine Area Using Landsat Imagery

This study was concentrated on the diffusion of the Naktong river water and its influence on the adjacent ocean environment by the interpretation of LANDSAT TM & MSS imagery which is capable of supplying repetitive, coincident and spatial information about distribution and boundary of river water as well as its changing properties.
Fingerprint Pattern Recognition Algorithm

The purpose of this research is to develop the Automatic Fingerprint Verfication System by digital computer based on specially in PC level. Fingerprint is used as means of personal identity verification in view of that it has the high reliability and safety. Fingerprint pattern recognition algorithm is constitute of 3 stages, namely of the preprocessing, the feature extraction and the recognition. The preprocessing stage includes smoothing, binarization, thinning and restoration. The feature extraction stage includes the extraction of minutiae and its features. The recognition stage includes the registration and the matching score calculation which measures the similarity between two images. Tests for this study with 325 pairs of fingerprint resulted in 100% of separation which which in turn is turned out to be the reliability of this algorithm.
A Study on the Estimation of the Sea Surface Temperature from AVHRR CH4 data of NOAA-9

Accurate determination of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) is essential for ocean and climate studies. This paper estimated SST in the sea region around the Korea from the Advenced Very High Resolution Radiometer(AVHRR) channel 4 data on board NOAA-9 satellite. The processing procedure used to derive SSTs utilized: 1) Ascending node prediction of satellite orbit 2) Geometric correction 3) Radiometric calibration and radiance to temperature conversion look up table 4) Removing cloudy area. SST product results are displayed as colored video and hardcopy. In this processing, geometric correction is derived from equator crossing time, ascending time and subpoint coordinate information. Also, normalized response function of infrared 10.5-11.5
wavelength is used for temperature conversion. The SST derived from this processing is relatively similar to the measurements made by ship data, but because of water vapor attenuation SST from satellite are in general 2
lower than the ship data.
Organization and Design Techniques of Geographic Information System Using Computer Graphics

The main purpose of is paper is to review and develope design techniques with respect to geographic information system (GIS) using computer graphics. The geographic information system is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, retrieve and display various data about geographic locations and spatial characteristics. In order to perform this research, a significant literature review was conducted and various design techniques of GIS based upon computer graphice were discussed.
