Biomechanical model of pushing and pulling

This study demonstrates that certain personal and task factors can be modelled to predict slip potential as well as back loadings durings dynamic pushing and pulling tasks. Such tasks are com- mon to many manual material handling jobs in industry and the results of this work will hopefully be of use in improved job design. The objective of this research is to formulate and validate a dynamic biomechanical model of pushing and pulling a cart. For pushing and pulling tasks, the model can : (1) estimate foot forces for given hand forces, and (2) estimate tors muscle and vertabral column loadings. In order to formulate and validate the model, experiments involving pushing and pulling of a cart were performed. These experiments produced data of the following type : (1) dynamic forces on the feet, (2) hand forces required to move the cart, (3) body motions as functions of various cart motion and (4) back muscle actions. The model was validated using three different methods; precision was tested using correlation between predicted and measured results, accuracy using standard error between of predicted and measured results, and intuitive comparison of predicted results using sensitivity analyses.
Reliability of the redundant system with dependent human error

There is the possibility that human error during testing and maintenance brings about the failure of the system, the reliability of which depends on mechanical failure and human error. This paper deals with the calculation of the reliability of the redundant system with the dependent hunman error through Karnaugh Map. Two cases are considered. One is the reli- ability of the system neglecting the test interval of each component and the other is that considering the test interval of each component.
Effects of color coding on a jack board-type display

Application of color coding to a jack board-type display has not yet been tried. The purpose of this paper is to study the effects of color coding on a jack board-type display. Ten subjects searched 10*20 arrays of numbers for the presence or absence of a color coding. Five colors were used for the coding. Three subjects were selected among 10 subjects to repeat 11 times the above experiments. Detection time was reduced by 6.6% for the color coding condition. Three subjects did not show any results different from those in their inexperienced state, except the learning effect during repetition of the experiments. The results imply that the color coded jack board-type display may be efficient either to inexperienced subjects or to experienced subjects.
An empirical study of the factors that upgrade job quality

The job design was frequently tried in many enterprises in order to give workers the job satisfaction, but there remains obscure about what kinds of human factors in job yield the satisfaction. This study is concerned with an experimental method for job design to account for such findings that work with conveyor gave workers unsatisfaction, and that enlarged job of work resulted in high job satisfaction.
