A Technique of the Combined Cycle Heat Rate Allocation for the On-Line Performance Monitoring System

A technique of the heat rate allocation was devised to monitor the performance of Combined Cycle Power Plant. This calculates the expected heat rate of current conditions and compares it with actual values. Loss allocation in heat rate is reconciled by calculating the magnitude of the deficiency contributed by major components, such as the gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator (HRSG), steam turbine and condenser. Expected power output is determined by a detailed model and correction curves of the plant.
Thermo-Mechanical Analysis for Metallic Fuel Pin under Transient Condition

Computational models for analyzing the in-reactor behavior of metallic fuel pins under transient conditions in liquid-metal reactors are developed and implemented in the TRAMAC (TRAnsient thermo-Mechanical Analysis Code) for a metal fuel rod under transient operation conditions. Not only the basic models for a fuel rod performance but also some sub-models used for transient condition are installed in TRAMAC. Among the models, a fission gas release model, which takes the multi-bubble size distribution into account to characterize the lenticular bubble shape and the saturation condition on the grain boundary and the cladding deformation model have been developed based mainly on the existing models in the MAC-SIS code. Finally, cladding strains are calculated from the amount of thermal creep, irradiation creep, and irradiation swelling. The cladding strain model in TRAMAC predicts well the absolute magnitudes and gen-eral trends of their predictions compared with those of experimental data. TRAMAC results for the FH-1,2,6 pins are more conservative than experimental data and relatively reasonable than those of FPIN2 code. From the calculation results of TRAMAC, it is apparent that the code is capable of predicting fission gas release, and cladding deformation for LMR metal fuel finder transient operation conditions. The results show that in general, the predictions of TRAMAC agree well with the available irradiation data.
Development of the Decommissioning Database System to Manage and Assess Data front Decommissioning Activities of Korea Research Reactor 1 & 2

Korea Research Reactor (KRR) 1 & 2 has shut down and through preparatory activities, its decommissioning activities are underway. As its decommissioning activities have been done over several years, its relevant data have been spreaded with various type and media all over the discrete place and inadvertently managed. As s result, managing and assessing data of KRR 1 & 2 has been difficult and complex and its data cannot be evaluated. By developing the decommissioning database system of KRR 1 & 2, the data of decommissioning activities fan be correctly evaluated, being systematically managed and objectively assessed. Finally, the decommissioning project of KRR 1 & 2 have come to more effectively accomplished.
Development of Diagnosis Platform for DC-DC Converter Based on Java Virtual Machine

This Paper deals with a Platform for diagnosis monitoring of DC-DC converter system based on Java virtual machine. This platform is designed for estimating diagnostic parameters of DC-DC converter system based on system identification method and displaying Web-page on operating status. For Web-service, hardware of platform is baled on a Strongarm processor and software bale is designed on Linux and java virtual machine.
Symptoms on Generation of Combustion Oscillation and their Detection

Usefulness of an optical fiber was demonstrated by detecting the generation of self-excited combustion oscillations. OH chemiluminescence intensity detected by the optical fiber showed mostly excellent agreement with those obtained by high speed CCD camera measurements when combustion oscillations were strong. Symptoms of self-excited combustion oscillation were also studied in order to predict the onset of combustion oscillation before it proceeded to a catastrophic failure. For the purpose, we have found and proposed unique measures to tell the onset of self-excited combustion oscillations based on the careful statistics of fluctuating properties in flames, such as pressure or omission of OH radicals.
Performance of Compressor with Variable Capacity

In the present study, the variation of input power and efficiency improvement of a scroll compressor applying PWM method are experimentally investigated. The cooling capacity, input power and COP are measured under the cooling operation. The input power due to the change of the condenser and the coil addition in a main current part is measured to enhance the compressor efficiency. Measured results show that the input power and COP increase with increasing the tooling capacity. And the minimum input power of the compressor is observed. By the adoption of the double system, the consumption of compressor input power is reduced, compared with the existing system.

Reduction and Sequestration Technology using the AHP

World have been encouraged to develop technologies that contribute to CO
emission reduction for many years. Those technologies can be categorized into capture, storage or sequestration, utilization, etc. There have been lots of efforts, in Korea, to develop the technology as well. In this paper, the impact factors of the technologies, especially in CDRS (Carbon Dioxide Reduction & Sequestration Center), were selected and were weighed by SMM (Storing Models Method) and AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) in order to evaluate the four representative areas of the technologies.
Carboxylic Acids Produced from Hydrothermal Treatment of Organic Wastes

This paper reports production of low-molecular weight carboxylic acids from the hydrothermal treatment of representative organic wastes and compounds with or without oxidant (H
). Organic acids such as acetic, formic, succinic and lactic acids were obtained. This result increased to 42mg/g dry waste fish entrails in the presence of H
. Experiments on glucose representing cellulosic wastes were also carried out, getting acetic acid of about 29mg/g glucose. Studies on temperature dependance of formation of organic acids showed thermal stability of acetic acid, whereas, formic acid decomposed readily under hydrothermal conditions. In general. results demonstrated that the presence of oxidants favored formation of organic acids with acetic acid being the major product.
