A Study on the Performance Improvement of a High Efficiency Hydraulic Breake
Journal of the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, volume 19, issue 2, 2003, Pages 59~64
In this study, the hydraulic breaker system was analyzed and the analysis tool using GUI was developed. The analysis on the system with the accumulator was included. From the parametric analysis, the effects of each factor were revealed. Through the simulation with varying parameters, the method to improve the performance of the hydraulic breaker system was presented. The analysis tool will help a man without special knowledge about programming analyze the hydraulic breaker system. The result of this study will help improve the hydraulic breaker system in sight of Blow energy and Blows per minute.
Elastohydrodynamic Lubrication Analysis on the Contacting Surfaces between Spur Gear Teeth
Journal of the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, volume 19, issue 2, 2003, Pages 65~71
An elastohydrodynamic lubrication analysis was performed on the contacting teeth surfaces of involute spur gears. Kinematics of the gear and the pinion were taken into account to get accurate geometric clearances around the elastohydrodynamic lubrication region of the contacting teeth. Pressure and film thickness distribution for the whole contacting faces in lubricated condition at several time steps were obtained through the analysis. Besides the pressure spike at the outlet region, a representative phenomenon in elastohydrodynamic lubrication regime, the pressure at the inlet region was slightly higher than that of the center region. The film thickness of transient condition was thicker than that of steady condition.
Study on Electrorheological Properties of the Synthesized Chitosan Derivatives
Journal of the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, volume 19, issue 2, 2003, Pages 72~77
Chitosan derivatives, Fluorinated chitosan, and N,N,N-Trimethyl chitosan iodide were synthesized as the disperse phases for the electrorheological fluid. The synthesis of these materials were confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-lR). Chitosan derivative suspensions showed ER effect under the electric field. Especially, N,N,N-Trimethyl chitosan iodide suspension showed better electrorheological and electric properties than Fluorinated chitosan. It is due to difference in electron strength of polar groups composed derivatives. N,N,N-Trimethyl chitosan iodide suspension exhibited a linear dependence on an electric field power of 2.07.
Wear Resistance Evaluation of Automobile Transmission Gear on Surface Modification
Journal of the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, volume 19, issue 2, 2003, Pages 78~84
The SCM420 used mainly to automobile transmission gear has problems that it costs transmission gear maker much money in carburising treatment. For this, it needs to alternate the existing material and heat treatment to new gear material and surface modification. For this, friction and wear experiment according to sliding speed and applied load was carried out to evaluate the wear resistance of two transmission gear materials with carburising SCM420 and nitrocarburising NT100, The presumed wear volume was calculated with the image processing for evaluation of wear resistance of two transmission gear materials. The results show that nitrocarburising NT100 has a distinguished wear resistance than carburising SCM420.
EHL Analysis of the Ball Joint Contact in a Reciprocating Compressor
Journal of the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, volume 19, issue 2, 2003, Pages 85~93
In this study, a multigrid multi-integration method has been used to solve the steady-state, elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) point contact problem of a ball joint mechanism used in small reciprocating compressors. Pressure and film thickness profiles have been calculated at minimum and maximum Moes M parameter conditions during one revolution of crankshaft. The effects of various lubricant viscosities, loads, ball velocities, elastic modulli, and radii of curvature on the calculated pressure distribution and film thicknesses have been investigated. The results indicate that the viscosity of lubricant, the sliding velocity of ball, and the reduced radius of curvature have considerable effects on the minimum and central film thicknesses. Solutions obtained with the multigrid analysis are compared with results calculated according to the Hamrock ＆ Dowson relations for the minimum and central film thicknesses.
A Study on the Collection and Transportation Processes of Used Oil Containers by Integrated Management System
Journal of the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, volume 19, issue 2, 2003, Pages 94~101
Used motor oil contains pollutants, including organic chemicals and meta]s. When disposed of improperly - in the trash, on the ground or in a sewer system - the pollutants may reach rivers, lakes or the ground water. Thus, all the waste oil products such as waste motor oil, waste oil container, and waste oil filter should be collected and transported for recycling or disposal by waste oil regulations. Because waste oil container is a valuable resource, waste oil containers can be reused, cleaned, buried, and burned for recycling processes. This paper presents the integrated management system that may increase the efficiency and productivity for collecting and reprocessing waste oil containers such as steel can and plastic container. The integrated management system consists of collection and transportation process management system and confirmation and certification process management system for waste oil containers.
A Study on Head-Disk Interactions at Ultra-low Flying Height in Contact Start-Stop
Journal of the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, volume 19, issue 2, 2003, Pages 102~108
The height of laser bumps has been considered as the limit of the minimum flying height in the contact start-stop (CSS) of hard disk drives. In this paper, tribological interactions at flying height under laser bumps are investigated in a spin stand for development of ultra-low flying head-disk interface. With the reduction of the spinning speed in a spin stand, the flying height is decreased under the height of laser bumps and, then, head-disk interactions are investigated using AE and stiction/friction signals. During seek tests and 20000 cycle-sweep tests, AE and stiction/friction signals are not significantly changed and there are no catastrophic failures of head-disk interface. Bearing analysis and AFM analysis show that there are signs of wear and plastic deformation on the disks. It is suggested that flying height could be as low as and, sometimes, lower than laser bump height.
Nanotribological Characteristics of Plasma Treated Hydrophobic Thin Films on Silicon Surfaces using SPM
Journal of the Korean Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers, volume 19, issue 2, 2003, Pages 109~115
Nanotribological characteristics between a Si
AFM tip and hydrophobic thin films were experimentally studied. Tests were performed to measure the nano adhesion and friction in both AFM (atomic force microscope) and LFM (lateral force microscope) modes in various .ranges of normal load. Plasma-modified thin polymeric films were deposited on Si-wafer (100). Results showed that wetting angle of plasma-modified thin polymeric film increased with the treating time, which resulted in the hydrophobic surface and the decrease of adhesion and friction. Nanotribological characteristics of these surfaces were compared with those of other hydrophobic surfaces, such as DLC, OTS and IBAD-Ag coated surfaces. Those of OTS coated surface were superior to those of others, though wetting angle of plasma-modified thin polymeric film is higher.
