Aeration Efface on the Oil Supply System of Engine Crankshaft Bearing

Engine bearing system is generally affected by aeration. In this paper, the aeration effects on the engine crankshaft bearing system were studied. To do this, unsteady oil flow analysis on the engine crankshaft oil circuit system was carried out. And aeration effects on the bearing system were simulated to figure out lubrication characteristics of the each bearing such as oil flow rate, minimum oil film thickness, friction loss and increase of oil temperature.
Nano Wear Behavior of a-C Films with Variation of Surface Roughness

Nano-wear behavior of amorphous carbon films was studied by Atomic Force Microscopy. The a-C films are deposited on Si(100) substrate by DC magnetron sputtering method. The influences of different surface roughness on the nano-wear are investigated. Nano-wear tests were carried out using a very sharp diamond coated tip. Its spring constant was 1.6 N/m and radius of curvature was 110 nm. Normal force used in the wear tests ranged 0 to 400 nN. It was found that surface depression occurred during scratching because of plastic deformation and abrasive wear (cutting St ploughing). Wear depth increased linearly with normal force. Changing the surface roughness variables according to the bias pulse control, the less surface roughness decreased the wear depth. The thickness did not affect the wear resistance.
Study on the Transient EHL Fluid Film for the Dynamic Contact Behaviors between Cam and Follower with Multigrid Multilevel Method

Many researches about the contacts between cam and follower have investigated EHL film thickness either without dynamic loading effect or only with curve fitting formula such as Dowson-Hamrock's, because including squeeze film effect makes it hard to obtain convergence and stability of computation. Therefore, inaccurate information about minimum film thickness without dynamic loading condition causes inappropriate design of cam profiles and wrong selection of cam and follower materials. In this work, computation tools both for kinematics and dynamics of valve train system of push-rod type and for fluid film thickness with elastic deformation on the basis of dynamic loading condition with multigrid multi-level method is developed. The computational results of minimum film thickness with the respects of both static and dynamic loading conditions are compared for the contact of flat follower over the entire cycle.
Frictional Characteristics of Water-lubricated Stainless Steel Ball Bearing

Water-lubrication ball bearings are required to install in aqueous medium where water is used as coolant or working fluid. However water-lubricated frictional characteristics of stainless steel ball bearing is not will known compared to oil-lubricated frictional characteristics. Furthermore study on friction at high temperature is rare because bearing maintenance strategy for water-lubricated or chemicals-lubricated bearings of equipment is mostly based on change of failed bearings and parts. Ball bearings and ball screws are used to transmit power in the control rod drive mechanism for an integral reactor and are lubricated with high temperature and high pressure chemically-controlled water. Bearings and power transmitting mechanical elements for a nuclear reactor require high reliability and high performance during estimated lifetime, and their performance should be verified. In this paper, experimental research results of frictional characteristics of water-lubricated ball bearing are reported.
Effect of the Droplets on the Wear Characteristics of Steel for the Cold Working Roller

A modified surface layer by ion implantation is very thin (under 1
) but has superior mechanical characteristics. therefore ion implantation has been used successfully as a surface treatment technology to improve the wear, fatigue, and corrosion resistances of materials. MEVVA which is a kind of ion beam apparatus has merits of low cost and is usable to various metals, but occurs a droplet ranging from micron to tens of micron on the implanted surface at ion implantations. wear is a dynamic phenomenon on interacting surfaces with rotative motion. Since wear changes in condition of the surface, we should control to surface. In order to improve a wear resistance of Ti ion implanted 1C-3Cr steel(material for roller in the cold working process), it is essential to investigate the effect of the droplets on the wear characteristics. In this study, we investigate the effect of the droplets on the wear characteristics of 1C-3Cr steel using SEM Tribosystem as in-situ system. Results show that the droplet occurred at ion implantation becomes the cause of severe wear. Therefore, the ion-implanted surface should be removed the droplet to improve wear resistance.
On Moment Balance of Tilting-Pad Thrust Bearings

The present paper theoretically investigates characteristics of moment balance of a tilting-pad thrust bearing. Pressure of lubricant film of the bearing was computed using the finite element method, and average film temperature was estimated from the heat balance over a pad. From the investigation, it has been found that different two sets of tilt angles satisfy moment equilibrium of the pad about the pivot for a given pivot location. The tilt angles converged depend upon initial tilt angles assumed. Quite different bearing performance, including load capacity, film thickness, and temperature, is shown to be obtained based on choice of the initial tilt angles.
Design for Cam Curve of a Oil Hydraulic Vane Pump for Vehicles′ Power Steering System

The cam curve of a balance type vane pump consists usually of circular arcs and Archimedes' spirals. However, if they are connected directly together, the curve must have a few discontinuous points of the gradients and the motion of the vanes is no longer smooth. Designing data for an oil hydraulic vane pump used in power steering system were obtained by the acquisition of optimum cam profile data which can be available to reduce noises and vibrations through the minimization of cavitation with the improvement of suctional performance. The performance test is carried on the trial manufactures by measuring the volumetric and the mechanical efficiency. And from that result, maintaining the same characteristic as the conventional one in the relief pressure and noise level, the experimental pump discharges 0.7
/min and shows nearly 3.5% enhancement in the total efficiency more than the conventional one.
A Study on Acting Forces on the Vane of Vane Pump used for Vehicles′ Hydraulic Power Steering

Reducing friction torque of the oil hydraulic vane pump used as the power source of power steering system should consider friction torque including viscous and mechanical friction torque according to the changes of rpm and pressure. This paper analyzes the forces acting on the vane to reduce the friction torque of the vane of the hydraulic vane pump used for Hydraulic Power Steering(HPS) system, and futhermore, the forces according to the shapes of cam profiles are analyzed.
