The Consequence Analysis for Unconfined Vapor Cloud Explosion Accident by the Continuous Release of Butane Vapor in the Debutanizing Process of Naphtha Cracking Plant
Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 33~43
The consequence analysis for the unconfined vapor cloud explosion(UVCE) accident by the continuous release of butane vapor was performed and effects of process parameters on consequences were analyzed in standard conditions. For the case of continuous release(87.8 kg/s) of butane vapor at 8 m elevated height in the debutanizing process of tile naphtha cracking plant operating at 877 kPa ＆ 346.75 K, we found that combustion ranges of dispersed vapor estimated by HMP model were 11.2~120.2 m and overpressures estimated by TNT equivalency model at 200 m were about 37.35~55.1 kPa. Also, overpressures estimated by Model UVCE I based on advective travel time to
were smaller than those estimated by Model UVCE IIbased on real travel time between
. At the same time, damage intensities at 200 m and effect ranges by overpressure could be predicted. Furthermore, simulation results showed that effects of operating pressures on consequences were larger than those of operating temperatures and results of accidents were increased with increasing operating pressures. At this time, sensitivities of overpressures for UVCE accident by the continuous release were about 5 kPa/atm.

Computer-Aided Decision Analysis for Improvement of System Reliability
Ohm, Tai-Won ;
Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 91~102
Nowadays, every kind of system is changed so complex and enormous, it is necessary to assure system reliability, product liability and safety. Fault tree analysis(FTA) is a reliability/safety design analysis technique which starts from consideration of system failure effect, referred to as “top event”, and proceeds by determining how these can be caused by single or combined lower level failures or events. So in fault tree analysis, it is important to find the combination of events which affect system failure. Minimal cut sets(MCS) and minimal path sets(MPS) are used in this process. FTA-I computer program is developed which calculates MCS and MPS in terms of Gw-Basic computer language considering Fussell's algorithm. FTA-II computer program which analyzes importance and function cost of VE consists. of five programs as follows : (l) Structural importance of basic event, (2) Structural probability importance of basic event, (3) Structural criticality importance of basic event, (4) Cost-Failure importance of basic event, (5) VE function cost analysis for importance of basic event. In this study, a method of initiation such as failure, function and cost in FTA is suggested, and especially the priority rank which is calculated by computer-aided decision analysis program developed in this study can be used in decision making determining the most important basic event under various conditions. Also the priority rank can be available for the case which selects system component in FMEA analysis.
Process Design of the Woodworking in the Kitchen Furniture Industry
Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 103~112
This research aims at the improvement of the manufacturing productivity of . kitchen furniture industry. W company deals with the orders of 2 types - the one is the batch order for mass production, and the other is the order of a customized single set. But, because the company has a single manufacturing system appropriate to mass production despite of the above 2 types-orders, the problems of increasing work-in-process, throughput time and material handling time were resulted in, and the overall productivity was generally low. We proposed a new material handling method to substitute the traditional one, the rearrangement of facility layout, and the introduction of a proper outsourcing method. This research results in about 80% increase in production quantity in the same period.

Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 113~124
First, in order to improve selecting method of quality characteristic level desired by customers, S/N(Signal-to-Noise) ratio of Taguchi in larger-the-better characteristics was applied. Second, the Matrix classification standard of ACE(Attribute Categorization Evaluation) is presented using KANO model on difference analysis of importance and satisfaction through questionnaire from customers. This is for reflecting the diverse EC which customers want in EC quality sufficiently. Also, establishing sales point will be helpful in business strategy through presenting types that are able to decide planning quality. Third, the important measure of EC about correlation among quality characteristics and a new weight of EC are calculated depending on importance of EC and the weight of customer attribute and materials of relationship matrix through correlation matrix analysis.
A Selection Method for Capital Budgeting Projects with Quality Function Deployment
Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 125~138
The purpose of this paper is to describe a new analytic method of capital budgeting projects that takes into account both customer wants and competitor's status and to give decision makers a tool for goal setting and planning for technology. This model, which is based on quality function deployment(QFD), has used the analytic hierarchy process(AHP) to determine the intensity of the relationship between the variables involved in each matrix of the model and the 0-1 integer programming to determine the allocation of funds to various technological projects. This paper also proposes how to calculate the new weight of columns to consider various strength levels of roof matrix, representing the correlation among the quality characteristics, using Lyman's normalization procedure. To compare this model with Partovi's model, I adapt the same example which is suggested by Partovi and I show that the value of object function, has maximization problem, in this model is larger than that in Partovi's model.
Using QFD implementation to decide for design of electronic wave shielding paint characteristics
Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 139~151
Developing a new commercial product, it is need to connect the end users demand of quality to the industrial technology of company. For this reason, this study is to build up the users demand for the imminent marketing product of a certain company by Analytic Hierarchy Process, analyze quantitatively users subjective thoughts collected by Group Consensus, calculate the added-value of users demands and verify the consistency of users opinions by consistency-exponential-calculation. The added value obtained by this method is substituted into a user-demand item of Quality Function Deployment. And, the technical characteristic data transferred from the extracted essential factor for developing and manufacturing a new product is substituted into a technical characteristic item of QFD. The faculty of quality is firstly finished by this procedure. But, because the relation a technical characterization with users demand do not be known in new product, Wassermans method was introduced for the correlation users demand with technology and for the processing and marketing of a new product. The all assumption on this thesis was based on the reliable real data of a certain company.
Analysis on the Choice of Subjects of University Students Using QFD(II)
Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 153~164
QFD (Quality Function Deployment) was defined by the American Supplier Institute in 1987 as a system for translating consumer requirements into appropriate company requirements at every stage, from research, through product design and development, to manufacture, distribution, installation, and marketing, sales and services. Although QFD has complex and tedious procedure to complete, it has now been in use in the world for at least 15 years because QFD enables us to catch a lot of fruitful information on the given system. The objective of this paper is to provide and analyze the trend on the choice of subject courses of university students using QFD. The data are collected by questionnaires. The samples for this study are randomly chosen from the universities in Seoul, Kangnung, and Samchok during 3 months (2000. 3∼2000.5). The results of this study will play an important role not only for service of students but also for opening of courses.
The Study on the Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Algorithm using Cell Delay Variation
Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 165~176
Broadband networks are designed to support a wide variety of services with different traffic characteristics and demands for Quality of Services. Bandwidth allocation methods can be classified into two major categories： static and dynamic. In static allocation, bandwidth is allocated only at call setup time and the allocated bandwidth is maintained during a session. In dynamic allocation, the allocated bandwidth is negotiated during a session. The purpose of this paper is to develop policies for deciding and for adjusting the amount of bandwidth requested for a best effort connection over such as ATM networks.. This method is to develop such policies that a good trade off between utilization and latency using cell delay variation to the forecast the incoming traffic in the next period. The performances of the different polices are compared by simulations.

A Study Development of the Powder Metallurgy Method Using 400 Series Ferrite Stainless Steel ABS Sensor Ring
Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 197~208
ABS sensor ring has been manufactured by powder metallurgy (P/M) method using 400 series ferrite stainless steel. The results are following. It is supposedly sufficient to use for control computer due to good experimental results of magnetic characteristics. Compared with sensor ring made by iron, 400 series ferrite stainless steel has shown a good corrosion resistance without an addition surface treatment. Thus the decreasing production process has been obtained. As a result mechanical characteristics of hardness and tensile test, 400 series ferrite stainless steel shown a good endurance when it is combined to constant velocity joint(C/V), and has a good hardness properties endurable to sand and pebble impact. The products before sintering are much more corrodible in the condition of spray test of salt water and ammonia than humidity and nitrogen condition.
A multi-supplier ordering policy under the condition of discount price
Journal of the Korea Safety Management and Science, volume 2, issue 4, 2000, Pages 209~217
In this paper, we consider an Inventory system with multi-suppliers. A supply agreement is made with one of the suppliers, to deliver a fixed quantity Q evry review period ； That is, adapting to discounts of under the condition of free addition often implies that the timing and sizes of future replenishment orders are less predetermined. The replenishment decisions for the other supplier are governed by a replenishment policy. This paper, multiple suppliers strategy is a combination of a push system (the main supplier delivers every review period a predetermined quantity Q) and a pull system the replenishment orders placed at other suppliers are governed by replenishment policy. The costs are defined as the sum of the ordering, holding, purchasing and opportunity costs. Based on numerical results, conclusions follow about the division of the replenishment volume among the inventory policy.
