The Measurement of the Mosaic Spread of the Single Crystal

A method of finding the mosaic spread of a single crystal is proposed by working with secondary extinction. With the mosaic spread of a crystal obtained by this method, the mosaic spread of another crystal is measured using a double axis single crystal diffractometer by Caglioti's method. The mosaic spread of the same crystal is also measured with a powder diffractometer by Epstein's method for the sake of the comparison of two methods.
An Improved Proton Recoil Telescope Detector for Fast Neutron Spectroscopy

For fast neutron spectroscopy in MeV region, a recoil proton telescope detector was designed and constructed so as to increase in detection efficiency without appreciable deterioration in energy resolution by adopting a special type of recoil proton radiator which is a combination of a ring-shaped vertical radiator and a cone-shaped horizontal radiator at a certain geometry. A neutron stopper was built in the detector system to minimize the background due to direct exposure of the Si(Li) detectors to primary incident neutrons. The detection efficiency and the energy resolution calculated at various neutron energies and geometries are given and these characteristics of the detector system were tested by 14.1 MeV neutrons. As the calculation predicted, the relative detection efficiency in case of the combined radiator system is almost 2.2 times of that for a single, ring-shaped vertical radiator system. The calculated energy resolution is 3.7% FWHM, whereas the measured resolution was 3.9% which means resolution broadening of approximately. 30% was resulted by introducing a combined radiator system into the telescope. Increase in background less than 40% was also observed.
Studies on the Preparation of Organic Halogen Compounds Labelled by

In a continuation of the 1st series of these studies, a separation of the components in organic phases obtained from Szilard Chalmer reactions of aromatic chloro derivatives was attempted to clarify the conditions of isolating the main component. Though it was unable to isolate all constituents of organic phases, the main component was well isolated by means of a simple distillation or a thin layer chromatography. It was identified that the main component was a recombined product of the recoiled
Cl atom with the original sample. In cases of solid samples the main component amounted about 80-60% of the radio activity of the organic phase, whereas the main component from liquid samples gave less than 70% of the radio activity of the organic phase. A prolonged irradiation could increase the yield of a main component, but it was, in case of a radiation senintive compound, decreased as the irradiation is extended. The number of aide produets separated from an organic phase of a liquid sample was greater than that of a solid sample, and hence the main component of a solid sample was isolated easier. The overall fields of the labelled main products of 22 kinds of compounds were listed and a procedure of the separation of the main component by a thin layer chromatograply was proposed and evaluated. The feasibility of the present procedure for labelling purpose was also reviewed with respects to the chemical structure of a compound.
On the Optimal Control in the Linear Time Invariant System with non Terminal Boundary Conditions

The linear sequence method is expanded in such a way that it may be applied to the boundary problem with non terminal state condition and its possibility under the existence of a corresponding costate vector P(t) is found. For an application a couple of the concrete physical models are illustrated and examined the effect of the sequence.
Gamma-ray Dosimetry with Thin Plastic Film

Thirty two different kinds of domestic plastic films for use in measuring high gamma-ray dose have been collected and their dosimetric characteristics investigated with the help of a Co-60 gamma radiation source. Among them a rigid polyvinyl chloride(PVC) film of 0.06mm in thickness which is manufactured by Lucky Chemical Co., Korea, seem to be the most suitable one for this purpose. The relation between optical density at 3100
and radiation exposure in this PVC film was linear in the range of 0.6
R to 1.3
R, and also the film showed a good reproducibility within 9% under the standard experimental condition. The effect of absorbed dose, oxygen content of surrounding atmosphere and irradiation temperature have also been studied for this film. It appeared to have a good property in the dosimetrical point of view.
Chromatographical Determination of Radiochemical Purity of Hippuran

A recently known method of paper chromatographical separation of o-iodobenzoic acid-
I and o-iodohippuric acid-
I was found to be in error. The solvent mixture proposed in the method for the efficient separation of the two compounds of similar structure not only be made nonhomogeneous but also brings about no separation. It was also confirmed that no o-iodohippuric acid is converted to o-iodobenzoic acid during the process for Hippuran -
I preparation by isotopic exchange. Upon it, an alternate method of chromato-graphical determination of radiochemical purity of Hippuran-
I is proposed in present paper.
Environmental Radioactivity at Ko-ri Nuclear Power Plant Site December 1970-November 1972

The present report concerns measurement of environmental radioactivity in the Ko-ri nuclear power plant site area. Gross beta measurements have been performed on soil, water, pine needle, and fallout samples collected during the period of December 1970-November 1972. Radioactivities of Strontium-90 and Cesium-137 have been measured by radiochemical analyses on samples of vegetables and marine products collected in 1972. Apparent seasonal variations and overall decrease by the year was also observed from the results of soil, pine needle, and fallout sample measurements respectively.
