Internal Structure and Velocity Field of the Impinging Diesel Spray on the Wall

The purpose of this study is to investigate the internal structure of the impinged diesel spray at various experimental conditions. To examine the effect of various factors on the development of a diesel spray impinging on the wall, experiments were conducted at the various Injection pressures, wall distances from the nozzle tip and angles of wall inclination. The PIV system consists of a double pulsed Nd:YAG laser was utilized to analyze the internal flow structure of impinged diesel sprays. The velocity fields from the PIV system were compared with the results measured by the phase Doppler particle analyzer(PDPA)system. The results show that internal flow pattern of the impinged spray was similar with the results from the PDPA system. The radial velocity of the impinged spray was increased with the increase in the injection pressure and near the nozzle-wall distance. The generation of vortex was also promoted with the Increase in angles of wall inclination.
Effect of Water on Continuos Spray and Flame in Emulsified Fuel made by Ultrasonic Energy

To investigate spray and combustion of emulsified fuel of W/O type, we mixed water with light oil by using ultrasonic energy adding system. We measured the SMD of sprayed droplet to find atomization characteristics of emulsified fuel with using the Malvern 2600D system. Major parameters are the weight ratio of water(
by 10%) in emulsified fuel injection pressure(lobar), and the measurement distance(
by 10mm). Combustion visualizing system is made up commonly used boiler system and digital camera 1/500s to investigate combustion phenomena. As a result, the more water contents increased, the more SMD increased. The water particle of emulsified fuel made short flame in continuos spray combustion phenomena because of micro explosion.
Development of Holographic Particle Velocimetry System and Its Application to Spray Droplets

The Holographic Particle Velocimetry system can be a promising optical tool for the measurements of three dimensional particle velocities. In this study, diffused illumination holographic system to measure the sizes and 3D velocities of moving particles based on automatic image processing was developed. First of all basic optical systems for pulse laser recording, continuous laser reconstruction, and image acquisition, were constructed. To determine the position of particles in the optical axis, new three auto-focusing parameters(AEP), namely, Correlation Coefficient, Sharpness Index, and Depth Intensity were introduced and verified. The developed system was applied to spray droplets to validate the capability of the system. Three dimensional positions of particles viewed from two sides were decided using AFP and then 3D velocities of Particles were extracted by particle tracking algorithm. Comparison of measurement results of sizes and 3D velocities of particles with those obtained by laser instrument, PDPA, showed good consistency of the developed holographic system.
SELF-PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF A SWIRL COAXIAL INJECTOR WITH VARIOUS INJECTION AND GEOMETRIC CONDITIONS

The spray and acoustic characteristics of a gas/liquid swirl coaxial injector are studied experimentally. The self-pulsation is defined as a pressure and flow rate oscillations by a time-delayed feedback between liquid and gas phase. Self-pulsation has strong influences on atomization and mixing processes and accompanies painful screams. So. the spray and acoustic characteristics are investigated. Spray patterns are observed by shadow photography technique in order to determine the onset of self-pulsation. And self-pulsation boundary with Injection conditions and recess length is get. To measure the frequency of the spray oscillation. oscillation of the laser intensity which passes through spray is analyzed by Fast Fourier Transform. For acoustic tests, a PULSE System was used. Acoustic characteristics of a swirl coaxial injector are investigated according to the injection conditions. such as the pressure drop or the liquid and gas phase. and injector geometries. such as recess length and gap size between the inner and outer injector. Front the experimental results. the increase of recess length leads to the rapid increase of the sound pressure level. And as the pressure drop of the liquid phase increases. the frequency of the self?pulsation shifts to the higher frequency. The frequency of spray oscillations is the same as that of the acoustic fields by self-pulsation.
Spray Characteristics of High Pressure Fan Spray Injector with Various Crossflow Speed

The direct injection into the cylinders has been regarded as a way of the reduction in fuel consumption and pollutant emissions. The spray produced from the injector of DIS(Direct Injection Spark Ignition) engine is of paramount importance in DISI engines. Fan-spray injector as well as swirl-spray injector was developed and utilized to the DISI engines. The interaction between air flow and fuel spray was investigated in a steady flow system embodied in a wind tunnel to simulate the variety of flow inside the cylinder of the DISI engineer. The direct Mie scattered images presented the macroscopic view of the liquid spray fields interacted with crossflow. Particle sizes of fuel droplets were measured with phase Doppler anemometer(PDA) system. A faster cross-flow field made SMD larger and
smaller. The experiments show the interaction of air flow field and the fuel spray field of fan-spray. The results can be utilized to construct the data-base for the spray and fuel-air mixing mechanism as a function of the flow characteristics.
Effects of Intake Port Swirl and Fuel Injection System on the Performance and Exhaust Emissions in a Turbocharged DI Diesel Engine

The purpose of this study is to analyze that intake port swirl and fuel injection system have an effect on the engine performance in a turbocharged D.I. diesel engine of the displacement 9.4L. As result of steady flow test, when the valve eccentricity ratio moved to cylinder wall, the flow coefficient and swirl intensity is increased. And as the swirl is increased, the mean flow coefficient is decreased, whereas the Gulf factor is increased. Through this engine test, it can be expected to meet performance and emissions by the following applied parameters; the swirl ratio is 2.43, injection timing is BTDC 13oCA and compression is 15.5.
