Behavior of a Diesel Spray Impinged on a Wall

In the case of analyzing the combustion phenomena in a small high speed DI diesel engine, one demands the experimental results of the impinging spray on the wall as a basic characteristics. In the experiments presented here, diesel fuel oil was injected into a high pressure chamber in which compressed air at room temperature was charged. The single spray was impinged on a flat wall. The growth of the spray was photographed with transmitted light or scattered light. The effect of the spray axis angle to the wall on the impinging spray was revealed. Finally, the experimental results was presented, that is, the radius and height of the impinging spray was influenced by above mentioned variable.
Equivalence Ratio Measurements in Gas Spray Using Laser Raman Scattering

Laser Raman scattering method has been applied to measure equivalence ratio of methane/air mixture in injected spray. We used high power KrF excimer laser

Our measured results show that the equivalence ratio of methane/air mixture in methane-rich region is reasonable. However, more study is necessary for methane-lean region because background noise level is almost same as Raman intensity of methane.
A Study on the Visualization Technique for Fuel Behavior and Fuel-Film Formation in the Intake Port of a S.I. Engine

In a gasoline engine with port injection system, the fuel behavior in the intake port has significant influence on the HC emission and the precise A/F control. That is to say, it is inevitable that the injection direction and behavior of fuel injected in the intake port have an effect on the generation of unburned HC within a cylinder. In this paper, we visualized fuel behavior in the intake port using micro CCD camera synchronized with the stroboscope and investigated the fuel-film characteristics formed at the wall of intake port by processing image captured with VCR in the transparent intake port made of acryl. Using these measuring methods, it was found that fuel behavior and the formation of fuel-film in the intake port could be evaluated qualitatively. And results obtained by these methods show that 2-spray injector minimizes the fuel-film formed in the intake port of a DOHC gasoline engine.
A Study on the Characteristics of the Spray Produced by Two Impinging Jets

In this paper an experimental study of a spray created by two impinging jets is presented utilizing a novel two-reference-beam double-pulse holographic technique. Visualization of the overall spray pattern as well as measurements on the size and velocity of the droplets were performed with the special emphasis on the effect of physical properties of liquids. The overall spray pattern clearly revealed the inherent wave nature In the disintegration process of this type of atomization. The structure of liquid elements near the impingement point is indicative of the mechanisms of the disintegration process. Surface tension plays an important role in the droplet size without any noticeable effect on the spray pattern, whereas viscosity affects the structure without any significant effect on the droplet sire. The droplet velocities were not affected by liquid properties.

Effects of MTV on fuel distribution and flame stability in a SI engine

The present study investigated the effects of MTV(Manifold Throttle Valve) on the fuel distribution and the flame stability in a SI engine at cold, idling condition. For the quantitative measurement of fuel distribution with PLIF method, compensating techniques of various factors such as laser beam nonuniformity, background image and local OTF nonuniformity were developed. As a result, it was found that MTV had a positive effect on the air-fuel mixing and flame stability.
