Injection Feature and Engine Performance Improvement of the Direct Diesel Fuel Injection System

This study has focused on using fuel injections as variables for measuring performance and reducing exhaust gas in turbo-charger diesel engine. In experiments, we changed nozzle hole diameter, diameter of an injection pipe, and injection timing as variable. The results show that torque. fuel consumption and smoke are reduced as nozzle hole diameter decreases, while NOx increases. When the diameter of injector is reduced, torque, fuel consumption and smoke are deteriorated, but NOx is decreased. In addition, when the time for injection is advanced. torque, fuel consumption and smoke are improved, but the density of NOx is increased.
A Study on the Simultaneous Reduction of NOx and Soot with Diesel-Methanol Stratified Injection System in a Diesel Engine (Part II : Combustion and Exhaust Characteristics of Stratified Injection)

This paper is study on simultaneous reduction of NOx and soot for direct injection diesel engine using high and low cetane fuels. The stratified injection system was applied for diesel engine to use high and low cetane fuel. In this study, diesel fuel was used as high cetane fuels, methanol was used as low cetane fuels. Some parts of the injection system, ie. Nozzle holder. delivery vale, was remodeled to inject dual fuel sequentially from one injector. The leak injection quantity ratio of dual fuel was certificated by volumetric ratio at injection quantity experiment. According as concentration of low cetane fuel was varied, combustion experiment was performed using Toroidal and Complex chamber. Also, exhaust gas and fuel consumption were measured at the same time. Simultaneous reduction of NOx and soot was achieved at complex chamber regardless of concentration of low cetane fuel. However, according as concentration of low cetane fuel was increased, THC and CO was increased.
Study on the Effect of Swirl Flow on Spray Characteristics

It is well known that the flow and spray characteristics is critical factor on the performance and emission of a direct injection diesel engine. So this study aims to investigate the interaction of flow and spray characteristics. At first, in cylinder flow distributions in swirl adaptor for 4-valve cylinder head of DI Diesel engine were investigated under steady conditions for different SCV angles mounted on the cylinder head with steady rig test and 2-D LDV. And the in-cylinder flow was quantified in terms of mean flow coefficient and swirl ratio/tumble ratio. It was found that the swirl ratio is controlled between 2.3 and 3.8. Then spray characteristics of the intermittent injection were investigated. PDA system was utilized for measurement of a droplet size and velocity. The analyses of the PDA results are carried out with Time Dividing Method. It was found that there is a correlation between the swirl flow and SMD. The droplet size and the velocity were nearly constant value with each SCV angle. And the swirl ratio is higher, SMD smaller. The swirl ratio was helpful factor to the atomization of droplet.
A Study on Mixing Characterization of Unlike-doublet Injector for Liquid Rocket Engine

The mixing of propellant and its mass distribution of unlike-doublet impinging injector, which is known to affect the combustion efficiency significantly, have been studied using PLIF(Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence). The results show that fuel jet penetrates considerably into the oxidizer jet at impinging point as variation of momentum ratio. and then stream flows inclined because of variation of momentum ratio. Consequently, the mixing efficiency shows that maximum efficiency is at MR=3. after MR=3, mining efficiency decreases slightly.
External Spray Characteristics of Deflector Nozzle

This study describes the external spray characteristics of deflector nozzle such as the breakup procedures of liquid sheet, spray angle, breakup length and bubble behaviors of spray at deflector nozzle. In order to visualize the spray behaviors shadow graphy technique were used. According to the increase injection pressure, deveopment of the spray passes through the dribbling, distoted jet, closed bubble due to the contraction by form a conical sheet like as the simplex swirl atomizer. The Effects of the Orifice Shapes on the Internal Visualization and The Spray Characteristics of the Single Hole Nozzle

The objective of this investigation was to obtain an excellent spray at the low injection pressure. When cavitation occurred in the nozzle hole the atomization of the liquid jet enhanced considerably. In this experiments, a acrylic nozzle which was installed the gap and installed the bypass in the nozzle hole was used to enhance the atomization of the liquid jet at the few injection pressure. The liquid flow in the nozzle hole was photographed by a transmitted light using a micro flash. The spray angle was measured by macroscope images of PMAS and the Sauter mean diameter was measured by PDA system. The pressure of the notate hole was measured by pressure transducer. It was found that enhanced atomization of the liquid jet at the low injection pressure was obtained by installing the gap and the bypass at the single hole nozzle.
