In many recent studies, molecular biological methods have been used to investigate the role of cytokines in pathogenesis of lung disease. This Experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of Sochungyong-tang on gene expressions in Mouse Alveolar Macrophage. Fer this purpose, we observed the cytokines (
, IL-6, IL-10, iNOS,
). We picked the alveolar macrophage out of mice and cultured it. We analyzed the cytokine gene expression by reverse transcription-PCR. The results obtained were as follows : 1 . Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on
in time and concentration. 2. Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on IL-6 in time and concentration. 3. Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on IL-10 in concentration. 4. Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on iNOS. 5. Sochungyong-tang showed inhibitory effects on
in time and concentration. 6. Sochungyong-tang showed on inhibitory effects on
. According to above results, it is supposed that Sochungyong-tang has the inhibitory effects on cytokine gene expression in mouse alveolar macrophage and can be usefully applied for curing inflammatory process of lung disease. Advanced studies are required to investigate the cure mechanism of Sochungyong-tang in the future.

The Journal of Korean Medicine Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and Dermatology, volume 18, issue 3, 2005, Pages 26~36
Objectives: Maier symptoms of allergic rhinitis are nasal obstructions, sneezing and watery rhinorrhea. When exposed to certain allergens, the IgE covered mast cells degranulate and release inflammatory mediators and cytokines which result in a local inflammatory reaction. In many recent studies, molecular biological methods have been used to investigate the role of cytokines in pathogenesis and new therapeutic targets of allergic rhinitis. This experimental study was done to reveal the effects of the Bojungikgi-tang on the allergic rhinitis. We have studied effect of mice on OVA-induced production of IL-4, IL-5,
by murine splenocytes and effect of OVA-induced Total IgE and OVA-specific IgE Meterial and Metheds: 21 BALB/c rats were divided into three groups: normal group, control group, experimental group. To induce the allergic rhinitis in control group and experimental group, rats were sentitized intraperitioneally with 0.1% ovalbumin solution 3 times at intervals of 2 weeks. Then intranasal sensitization was performed by diffusing 0.1% ovalbumin solution 3 times at intervals of 2 days for a week. After that time, rats in experimental group were oral administration treated by the Bojuogikgi-tang fer 28 days. We observed changes of IL-4, IL-5,
, Total IgE and OVA-specific IgE. We used independent-test statistically. Results: 1. In IL-4 study, Bojungikgi-tang treated group didn't show significant differences. 2. In IL-5 study, Bojungikgi-tang treated group shows significant differences. 3. In
study, Bojungikgi-tang treated group shows significant differences. 4. In Total IgE, Bojungikgi-tang treated group shows significant differences. 5. In OVA-specific IgE, Bojungikgi-tang treated group didn't show significant differences. According to this result, Bojungikgi-tang was concluded to be effective on lowering the total IgE. Through this. Bojungikgi tang seems to reduce the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. More studies are required to know exact mechanism of Bojungikgi tang to show the anti allergenic effect.

The Journal of Korean Medicine Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and Dermatology, volume 18, issue 3, 2005, Pages 37~43
This study was performed to determine the cytotoxic effect of methanol extract from Houttuynia Cordata and Glycine soja. The cell viability was determined by MTT method. Their cytotoxic activities against three cancer cell lines such as A549, MDA-MB-231 and SNU-C4 cell line were tested. Among them, The methanol extract of Houttuynia Cordata showed the strongest cytotoxic effect against SNU-C4 cells. These results suggest that the methanol extract of Houttuynia Cordata possessed a potential antitumorous agent. The free radical scavenging activity using DPPH method was the strongest of Houttuynia Cordata methanol extract and ethyl acetate fraction.

Damum(痰飮) is a kind of pathologic secretion products that excessive water is accumulated in a part of body. Damhun(痰暈) is the vertigo induved by Damum(痰飮). We experienced two clinical cases treated vertigo by orietal medicine(herbal medication, acupuncture). 33-years old male and 63-years old female patients had Damhun(痰暈), vertigo by Damum(痰飮). We administered Banhabaechulcheoma-tang(Pansiabaichutienma-tang) and Yeonggyechulgam-tang(Lingguishugna-tang) to each Patient, and two Patients improved vertigo and referred symptoms. In other words, this study is that We did not limited peripheral vertigo to vestibular system, made a diagnosis of Damum(痰飮) and treated vertigo by orietal medicine(herbal medication, acupuncture) referred to many medical practitioner of many generations. We suggest that digestive sypmtom(related to Damum(痰飮), abdominal examination and stool frequency are closely associated with vertigo and could be estimated prognosis of vertigo.

The Journal of Korean Medicine Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and Dermatology, volume 18, issue 3, 2005, Pages 158~164
Meniere's disease is not a life-threatening but lift-altering inner ear disease characterized by episodic vertigo, fluctuating hearing loss, tinnitus and ear fullness. The etiology and pathophysiology symptoms is still disputed. Thereby the treatment of Meniere's disease is empirical. As yet no treatment has prospectively modified the clinical course of condition and thereby prevented the progressive hearing loss. We experienced two cases of Meniere's disease treated with oriental medical treatment, acupuncture and herbal medication. 15 year-old and 23 year old male patients had diagnosed Meniere's disease by western medical doctor. After treatment their vertigo is decreased and the level of hearing loss was rise up. Therefore, oriental medical treatments could be safe and effective methods.
