Variation in the Vertebral Number of Sand-eel, Ammodytes personatus GIRARD
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 15, issue 1, 1979, Pages 1~3
The sand-eel, Ammodytes personatus GIRARD, "Kka-na-ri" is an important commercial fish inhabiting the coastal waters of Korea. The numbers of vertebrae (except urostyle) waR statistically analysezed based on the samples collected at three major fishing localitie" Jumunjin (East Sea), Geoje Island (southern coast) and Baegryeong Island (Yellow Sea) from May 1978 to June 1979. It was found that there was a very distinct difference in the numbers of vertebrae in the samples.rae in the samples.
Study on the Intensive Catching Method of Anchovy for Live Bait-I. An Experiment on the Towing Method of Holding Creel

Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 15, issue 1, 1979, Pages 5~16
At the holding of live anchovies which will be used as bait for the skipjack fishing, it is necessary to transrer the holding creel to the holding ground from the long distanted fishing ground. Usually, the creel made with net webbing and shaped like pound, was towed with a tow rope fastened to the front fringe or it, when two serious problems were found. The one was that the leading flap or the webbing of creel was drifted backward by the drag and caused to decrease the volume of the creel and made anchovies mortal. The other was that much time were spent to tow creels for long distance with slow speed, whereas to tow fast made anchovies worn out and caused them mortal. To prevent these defect, the authors carried out a model experiment in a circular flowing tank with a 1/15 scale model creel by four different arrangement of towing, and found out two suitable method, then these two methods were experimented in the sea with full rigged creel, and found the most suitable method out. To decrease the interior current speed of the creel even if it was towed fast, the apron which made by the same webbing of the creel body was enclosed the leading flap of creel, when the interior current speed showed the 35 to 40 percent of towing speed, whereas it showed 50 to 55 percent without apron.
Study on the Intensive Catching Method of Anchovy for the Live Bait-II Fish catching test by Means of Partially Reconstructed Boat Seine Net and Creel Holding Test of the Catch

To catch live anchovies which will be used as bait for skipjack fishing, set net, lift net and purse seine net were tried in Korean coastal waters by the authors. Among them the former two methods showed unsuitable to catch in bulk even though the catch showed good survival. The last showed unsuitable result because of the lack of exclusive fishing boat and skilled fishermen. From the viewpoint of practical use, the authors regarded it may be suitable to improve the traditional boat seine net which are used as major fishing gear to catch anchovies in Korea, so far as Korea is concerned. So we tried to catch live anchovies with partially reconstructed boat seine net and to hold the catch in the creel improved by the authors. Even though the result showed less than 70 percent of survival, slightly worse than other fishing methods, the experimented method showed to be practical in catching the live anchovies intensively.
Study on the Intensive Catching Method of Anchovy for Live Bait-III Relation Between Variation of Sea Condition and Catch of Anchovy in the Southern Coast of Korea
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 15, issue 1, 1979, Pages 23~33
This paper was analysed based on the oceanographic and meteorological data complied from 1971 to 1977 for that search relationships among the fluctuation of sea condition and weather condition, and the catch of anchovy. In the year when heat loss from the sea surface in winter was maximum(in 1974, 658 Iy), temperature of midwater in summer was lower 2~4\ulcornerC than normal year. While heat loss was minimum (in1973, 487 Iy), temperature of mid water was higher 2\ulcornerC. When temperature of mid water of southern coast from June to August was higher than normal year, anchovy was caught good deal, but that was lower than normal year was bad fishing. When it had much precipitation (in 1973, 256mm), plankton was checked maximum (12cc) and also the catch of anchovy too (11, OOOm/t). While precipitation was minimum (in 1976, 123mm), plankton (3cc) and anchovy (2, 800m/t) was a litle. If we calcalate heat budget in winter, we can forecast temperature of mid-water in summer of following year. Therefore we may be able to forecast catch anchovy.
A Study on Characteristics of Coastline Change in Eastern Coast Korea
Journal of the Korean society of Fisheries Technology , volume 15, issue 1, 1979, Pages 35~42
This paper concerns the receding of the eastern coastline of Korean peninsula at a macroscopic point of view, the result is as following. 1. Eastern coast is gradually developed from maturity stage to full maturity stage. 2. The coastline recession due to sea level rise is amounted to the receding distance, x=0.045 m per yr. 3. The author proposes another classification from the new view point, which is classified by comparing quantities between river supplying sediment loads, and the littoral drifting due to wave actions. According this, eastern coast is receding(Type Q-A), and we could find it's geomorphological characteristics. 4. The general piofile of eastern coast sand beach is erosional storm profile(Type I) which accompany offshore bar. 5. From the wave measuring data of eastern coast(Hoopo port), I can derive the linear regression line of the exceedance probability of wave height from the log-normal distribution.
Above equation made it possible to estimate $\omega[=P(H>H_c)]for the effective wave height H_c=2. Om4, 4. Om and their corresponding values are considerable (7.8%, 0.3%) 6. Eastern coastline certainly have the tendency of erosive and receding, owing to the sea level rise, poor sediment source and effective wave actions. It's very desirable to survey coastline evolution for a long time systematically, in order to make more elaborate diagnosis.
